The professional status and the actual practice of professional engineering is legally defined and protected by a government body. In some jurisdictions only registered or licensed engineers are permitted to use the title of engineer or to practice engineering professionally. Another earmark that distinguishes a licensed professional engineer is the authority to take legal responsibility for engineering work. For example, a licensed engineer may sign, seal or stamp technical documentation such as reports, drawings, and calculations for a study, estimate, design or analysis.
It's a milestone in my life, so I decided to put my first stamp somewhere and hold on to it. Given the way my career is going, as with a lot of engineers, I doubt I'll ever really use it. I remember when I was a kid, playing around in my dad's desk drawers, I found his stamp and didn't really know what it was. Ink had never touched it and it was next to a dried out ink pad, but I think a lot of engineers just want to have it for the memory.
I've always been curious as to what exactly you engineer. I know you stated you work in the oil and gas industry. I also work in the same industry in Alberta, and put metal shacks aroundall different kinds of pipe skids. Do you do any drawings for these type of skids? Would be really neat to know that someone here makes the skids that my company puts buildings on. Here is a general picture of what im taking about.

Heres one with one of our buildings around it.
I don't really engineer... anything. I'll select materials and review designs, but the bulk of the work is outsourced to EPs. I mostly manage pipeline facility projects. Pretty much exactly like something in your picture; but my company doesn't prefab large pipe into skids/buildings like that. We would do something like that for a smaller building, like a densitometer, viscometer, prover, etc., but not a meter run or pump header.
Pretty cool that you fab those skids. What trade are you?
Congratulations Chill. I say you go the opposite route from your father. Stamp everything. Have a barcraft? Use that to stamp hands. Getting "stamped by Chill" could be a new catchphrase or right of passage.

I can just imagine Chill leaning in at the end of the date, the girl looking at him excitedly...
then he gently stamps her forehead, says "goodnight" and leaves
Nice job. I had trouble reading it. Well, obviously i read it but it took longer because it's backwards. So, this is for anyone who had trouble reading it. ^^ + Show Spoiler +

Or, um, you could read the impression it makes on the paper, complete with Chill's gorgeous, gorgeous handwriting?

I guess I would be labeled a sheet metal worker, but it's definitely a niche trade that doesn't really have alot of competing companies doing the samething (No schooling involved either). Basically if any company outside of Alberta/BC/Sask needs a building done on site, we gotta fly there and do it, or fly there and train other workers how to do it. (including places like Russia, and deep into the US).
This seems sorta analogous to how I got my professional teaching certification earlier this year. It requires a bachelors, masters, and 3+ years of experience.
You now have a seal of approval. You can find the best post on teamliquid and give it the Chill seal of approval. If you don't do this you will be missing the best opportunity that ESPORTS has ever seen
I'm working on getting one of these right now actually, I don't have the work requirements for my state yet. (need 4 years minimum) but yeah, getting a PE license ASAP.

Cool, where at? I don't got to McMurray these days much, more Cold Lake & Hardisty.
I've heard about this from my friend from Montreal and it made me sad that we don't have this in the United States. I'd love to get something like this after graduation. I walk in may and get my Mechanical Engineering degree ^_^. That's awesome, grats.

And if you find people without stamps in your Barcraft, you can tell them to get out.
Congratulations. Engineering is no joke. I tried to help my friend get like a class B boilers license, and the math alone nearly gave me an aneurism :p
I first thought the animal was a bunny, the way you put the M of your signature over it. At second glance I was disappointed it was only a lousy beaver
ps. Congratulations. Now go engineer me some cool stuff

Agreed. I think you should now sign all credit card receipts with your stamp.
I should be ashamed that my immediate association with "Engineer" was involving World of Warcraft. I have been humbled by self-reflection. Congratz Chill!!!
