Since most of the people doing this are gold+, there's a decided difference in micro abilities. That means she loses and gets frustrated and doesn't play for a while (since she'll just get matched up against the same guy if she queues up again anyway) This sounds wrong, I have a similar friend who plays (with the same faults) and one of the first things we did on customs was practice about 10 games against worker rushing (I was doing the worker rushing). She's never lost to that again... Teach her, don't win games for her...
"Oh right, now I can play starcraft 2! Let's go!" "Hmm, wait... before you play your first game, we need to run drills for an hour or two." "What, why? I want to play..." "Yeah, i understand, but there are these people that want to get this in-game achievement above anything else, and to get that they have to abuse starting players like you. Just to make them not ruin the experience for you we will have to run these drills for an hour before you start." *sob* "but want to blay be gabe... TT"
Welcome to starcraft! >_>
And what about those that pick up starcraft that does not have experienced sc2 friends that will babysit them? We wont hear about them here on teamliquid naturally, as any friend of anyone on TL will have at least on friend with sc2 experience. But I'm sure there are plenty of them.
This kind of stories makes me want to drop my rating to low bronze and just be really nice to everyone and help them out and let them have fun down there. Cute little cuddly bronzies!! They are the future players, and maybe more importantly, they are the future audience of e-sports. I know this expression is being thrown around a lot, but here it actually applies. You're hurting e-sports dude!

I respect that you realized how dumb it is to BM these people

If this blog looked something like this:
bm'ing bronzies and worker rushing is fun rofl, it even works sometimes!
With some extra padding, it wouldn't of got spotlighted. To my knowledge, anyway. Whoever spotlighted this probably wasn't thinking "Oh! This guy worker rushes and BM's! Two great things, let's spotlight that sucker!"
No. I don't presume to speak for TL staff here, but if you look at what actually gets spotlighted (in blogs, at least) it's usually long, well-written, funny blogs that had a lot of effort put into them. This blog is exactly that; and it's not like he's advocating rape or anything too horrible.
These people acting as if this is actually ruining the entertainment of "100's of people" are being a little silly, to be honest. It's not that big of a deal.
Really, I've had these kinds of people from bronze-gold who get really frustrated when they lose just in general. SC2 isn't really that much of a pick up and play game as most console games are, if you want to be somewhat competitive at your level you can't expect it to be all funsies.
Oh, and get over him calling somebody a "faggot" once. Yes, it's silly to use slurs like that, but acting all offended that this blog got featured because the OP said "faggot" once is overboard.

I read the whole thing, and it made me laugh pretty hard.
Your wit made me smile, although I feel sad for those who don't know how to stop a worker rush (because I'm sure that most people- regardless of level, unless they're at master or GM- have encountered a build that they just auto-lose to).
If what you're doing makes you happy, keep doing it. I'm not one for BM, but the conversations seem pretty damn amusing. And heck, cheese and all-ins are part of the game.
|
What I learned:
1.Calling people a fag is a popular insult (seriously it makes me sad how popular this is). 2. People in bronze has no idea how to react to dumb stuff.
Well written though, and I had some good laughs.

Cracked Sash. Ethreal no less. I tried to get my money back, but he already swapped out his wares and insisted we never did business.
I lolzed.
Epic blog, sir. Honestly I would never have guessed masters can lose to a worker rush.

This was really fun to read. You remind me of my friend, expect he's not portrait farming, he just really likes to worker rush cause he actually finds it fun. Keeping fighting to good fight.

Alright I guess he says it once, and then later says he understands it's a problem and he's not going to do it anymore. He also doesn't say he's proud of BM'ing, in fact he said he realized he needed to stop. It seems like you wanted to complain about something and made this guy into your strawman.

He didn't make one about how "proud" he was that he's making bronzies BM him. As I said, in one single game which he happened to show the chatlog of, he called somebody a faggot. Soon after, he said that wasn't smart and made fun of people that do such things.
He's not "making newbies hate starcraft" either, and without knowing all these people you can't say that. If these people that got worker rushed actually have "what it takes" to keep playing Starcraft they won't get all demoralized and quit after one loss to a worker rush. Maybe they'll get pissed, but that's also just part of playing the ladder.
He wasn't really "being a dick" either. Worker rushing is a dick move? Expecting people to know how to 1A is a dick move? He only ever really was a dick to people when they were a much bigger dick to him first. He replies to them with wit and cleverness. And he doesn't call everyone faggots lol ^^;

Worker rushing while having an intentionally low MMR so you play against people who play their very first games of Starcraft is absolutely a dick move. It's like going to a primary school football game as a 150kg guy, slamming some kid to the ground and saying "haha that's part of the game". And than making a blog about that. And doing it 3000 times.

If he did that, he would be a dick. This is a game. He's not necessarily playing against kids, who can't emotionally handle losing a game of starcraft, even if it is their very first game. Which it probably isn't.

And it's gone from the spotlight!
Impressive TL moderating as usual, one of the greatest signs of that being the ability to recognize a mistake.
And to the OP: Worker rush in bronze if you have to, it's ok. But please realise that you are doing this at the very entrance to the sc2 community. Try to be a bit nice and welcoming. You can act as a guide for the n00bz entering the wonderful world of sc2. If you find that you need a cause to kill the boredom of grinding worker rushes, then take on the cause to guide all the beginners to GSL, to day[9] to teamliquid. In this way, you can be proud of your portrait in a completely different way. It can be a sign of "I was the catalyst for hundreds of people entering the sc2 community. I gave GSL 50 new subscribers."
Good luck, have fun.

Some commenters here taking this a little too serious it's just meant to be a bit of fun. I personally was quite entertained.
