and Korean is Japanese... according to the people who run own3d.tv
So there I was, setting up my stream for the KT vs Oz match after tbrown47's stream had died because of a BSOD. I linked it to a friend to test for framerate, since I'd just updated xsplit. He tells me it's been banned!
I'm sitting there wondering why.. and a few minutes later, I get an e-mail from support@own3d.tv: + Show Spoiler +
Hello,
We unfortunately had to block your channel due to a violation of our Terms of Use. You were streaming copyright material. You also cannot restream streams from other websites. (Such as GOMTV, etc.)
Please read our Terms of Use and be sure to only stream gaming content. This will be our first warning. We will remove the Block soon. Please be careful in the future.
As I was surprised, I replied with the following: "I'd like to know what the content was on my channel that was copyrighted. Thanks." and received a reply a bit later: + Show Spoiler +
Hello ----,
From the information we have you were restreaming a game from another stream, as well as restreaming GOMTV. This is against our rules. Restreaming things like ESL, GOMTV, etc., is forbidden. They have their own channels and they will stream to own3D.tv if they wish. We tend to keep our rules simple, keep the content of your streams game-related, and make sure you don't stream content from other streams.
I have removed the ban from your stream. Please be careful in the future.

Well, I was curious what they thought I was streaming, so I fired off another reply quickly: "That is absolutely false information. I at no time had anything to do with GOMTV and I would like a screenshot, video clip, or other proof of this. I stream BW only." and received this reply: + Show Spoiler +
We don't usually take screenshots. But that is a good idea and I will enforce that from now on. We have a very small team, there is no reason for us to make up these stories. From the note I have here, your stream was locked because you were restreaming an SC2 game (commentated in Japanese we believe) and you also had a small window with a GOMTV stream on the bottem right corner. I'm not sure if it was you or someone streaming to your stream, but it's the report we have.
In any case, I have removed the ban and removed the warning as well. We only ask that you be careful in the future, and if you have done nothing that was reported, I will speak to my team and make sure they were not mistaken. And again, if you did not do what was reported, then you should not have to worry about it as you shouldn't be banned again.

Apparently BW and SC2 look so similar that they can be confused, and Korean is Japanese! I was streaming OGN during the Reach vs Anytime match (Set 1) and had MBC in PiP with Hyun vs Bogus. I'm not sure how they thought it was SC2, as I personally don't think they very similar at all. I can understand people not knowing the difference between different languages that they have no exposure to, but I think the images and sounds alone would give away that it isn't SC2. Not to mention, the logo for OGN and MBC look nothing like the GOM logo. Oh well, guess I'll be moving to JTV with all the other BW streamers.
Justin.tv is by far the best right now and this just seals the deal. Reminds me of the livestream banning grobyc (ironicly he changed to own3d.tv...we'll see how long that lasts tho now LOL).
Justin.tv has gone out of their way to make their product great for gaming streams and afaik haven't banned any BW streamers.
pretty funny how he's like "WE WOULDN"T MAKE THIS STUFF UP" lololol
I think the way that guy handled your emails was very fine and considering he removed the ban and the warning, I don't understand why you'd be so hell-bent on moving!
I do agree that they handled it quite professionally, but I would rather not risk someone mistaking a BW stream for SC2 again. It was probably an honest mistake, but if the person checking the stream doesn't know the difference between BW and SC2, it could potentially happen again.

Yeah .. Mistakes can happen. Give them a 2nd chance.

I kind of agree with this, but at the same time I would not risk it. What if Musou is the only guy streaming MSL finals or something big like that, and his stream suddenly gets banned because they think it is a GSL restream? I wouldn't risk that.
EDIT: Too bad there doesn't seem to be any direct influence from GOM otherwise we'd have another 'Thanks GOM' thread =( Shame, i wouldn't mind bashing them again =P
Imo they made a little mistake but handled it very well. Their mails seem friendly and their replies seem to come fast. I would see no reason to switch over to JTV as long as this does not happen again
Ya, the guy who replied to your mails and handled this did it all quite classy. But the one who reported you should get a serious fucking reprimand for his incompetence.
While this does seem to have been handled very quickly and professionally, this part still concerns/confuses me:

That is a good idea? Really? The fact that they've been operating for so long and (presumably) banning other streams without taking screenshots as proof is very strange to me. Sure, I understand they have a small team, but does it really take that long to hit PrtScn and copy/paste into Paint?

Even worse, imagine if Musou was the only guy streaming MANTOSSS playing and his stream suddenly gets banned? I wouldn't risk... oh wait.
Did we ever get any closure on Gbroby'c stream? I mean they said they would post a screenshot if he requested, which he did. Yet, they still didn't provide any proof of him streaming SC2.

Nice to see how this guy handled it though.
GOM did post an awfully fishy-looking screenshot of a screenshot of Grobyc allegedly streaming a GSL game. They also left a few official comments in that thread.
However, GOM's story just didn't add up in the end, especially since the screenshot showed a completely different game than the one being played that particular night.

They actually showed a game that was never played.

Actually, I think the screenshot showed an actual GSL game, though one that was played a few months prior to that night.
I dunno about recently but Grobyc did stream GSL during the open seasons. Is it possible that livestream's copyright crawler picked up an old VOD from those days...just super late? (lol 3 months later)
I seriously just spent the last hour combing through PvT games on scrap station trying to match the screenshot to a game and I'm pretty sure I finally got a match. December 9th, 2010 GSL Open Season 3, TSL_Rain vs HongUnPrime.WE Game 5. I'll include a screenshot of my own to compare to the blurry mess:
I do know for a fact that Grobyc streamed during the GSL Open 1 & 2 but I'm not quite sure if he did 3 as well. If he did then isn't it entirely possible that the VOD was still saved on his livestream account, thus leaving it available to be spotted by any copyright crawler?
Is it possible?
Edit: This does mean that GOM was at least wrong on the date & exact game though, so by all means tear them new assholes for that. I at least thought I'd look for another explanation though. >:
Edit2: Added a cut from the blurry mess to compare so you don't have to go back 6 pages.
