I dont understand, Gom wants us to use their site and their site only but yet the site crashes so often its impossible. I stay up to 3 in the morning waiting for these games to start, and when they do the fucking site crashes? They need to do something about this cuz honestly I am getting really sick of this and will no longer waste my time. I know there are lots of people who feel the same way. It just sucks just theres not even any restreams available.

I understand your rage, but saying GomTV sucks is a bit harsh. Think of everything they do for Esports. Yeah their stream has a habit of crashing, but it's not that bad.

It's okay man. Technical malfunctions happen. Could be hardware failure, could be actual problems. Either way no need to be too hard on GOM. I know how you feel. It's 5:49 AM. I have a class in 3 hours.

Hope GOM does make things better though. At least it shows people are watching, right?

Honestly you just sound entitled. You're lucky that there is a GSL that's readily available and free for you to watch. No one is obligated to give you a certain quality of service unless you're a paying customer. You don't outright deserve streams of these games just because they exist. GOM and Blizzard are spearheading the enterprise, an enterprise that I'm sure you enjoy. So instead of raging and complaining that the site is down you should be patient and grateful that Starcraft 2 is streamed for your enjoyment free of charge.

It shows people are TRYING to watch, Im just raging cuz the stream cut out in the middle of Jinros game and Ive spent 20 minutes trying to get it to work, and im pissed cuz its nearly 5 A.M. and ive been waiting all day for this match. IM just saying that Gom KNOWS theres a problem but have yet to fix it. How is it or 'esports' supposed to grow when u cant even watch the game do to a reoccuring problem?

Sucks for tonight.

For perspective, can you tell us how many nights it has worked well vs how many nights you haven't been able to watch? (be honest!)

I hate these kinds of posts, the fact that they're getting more common makes me think that in 10 years the only thing it will be acceptable to complain about is complainers.

Tonight has been the only night when I've had major problems with GOM, and I've been watching GSL almost every night that it's been on (which has been very unhealthy for my sleep schedule).

IMO, if you paid for the season ticket, then you have a right to rage (though you can always watch the games from VODs). However, if you're watching the free low-quality stream, then you just need to appreciate that GOM providing a free streaming service in the first place.

Ok I will be honest I will say that if GSL streams 5 nights a week, I get crashes at least 2 nights for at least 20-30 min each and sometimes I cant get the stream to work again. My problem tonight is that I really wanted to see Jinros games, and Ive been working evenings lately so I dont watch as much of the GSL as I did last year (which was every day) I understand that the streams work a lot more than it doesn't but all im saying is that the problem is there and happens often 2 out of 5 nights with a crash doesnt seem acceptable for a major tournament like this.

Gom does some stuff wrong but man they kinda bust their asses for us. It seems that you get more crashes than most people; everyone crashed tonight but I can't remember crashing on other nights this season so far.

We need more people buying the premium, it all goes to making shit work.

Honestly I've never had that much problems with GomTV and it gets better every season.

If the complaint is well thought out then it would make more sense for the complaint to be engaged. But the OP is entirely composed of frustration. GOMTV doesn't want restreams and that is completely reasonable since they want to be able to better gauge their viewers. It is awesome that Starcraft 2 is being streamed and that powerful organizations like Blizzard, Intel and Pepsi are behind it. Dealing with traffic is part of the growth of eSports so its unreasonable for someone to expect GOMTV to be perfect every night and in every way in that regard. So, I think my post is fine. I'm not saying its not fine to complain about things but to rather bring actual arguments to the table if you actually want to be taken seriously.

Edit: Also I realize this is a blog and is probably just for someone to vent, but venting to the public invokes public opinion from either side.

The crashes are more frequent when they have important games implying thier just overloaded like watching the grand prix on BBC I player (sometimes impossible). Its a good sign it means people are watching the games. If you don't want to stay up watch the vods, are people really gonna spoil the games for you? Watch them in you free time when you want is my advice. If your problem with that is you don't wanna buy a ticket stop complaining about a free service.

First time I have had any problem with the stream in a LONG time. The fact that as far as I know it crashed for everyone today indicates that it was an unavoidable technical problem instead of a problem with the quality of their stream, imo.

I think they're doing a great job.

It's generally 50:50 for me. The real issue here is that the big games bring more viewers which brings a lot more crashes. So the 50% the site crashes on are the important 50% to me.

I paid for the sole purpose of having the HQ stream because I have a TV I connect my computer to so I actually notice a difference. Any time someone like Nada/Jinro/MKP/MC play you can almost expect the site will crash at least once that night, and because of Murphy it will always be during a pinnacle moment.

i know gomtv crashing does suck, but think of it this way, this is a sign of esports growing, something all of you cried for!

I for one was perfectly happy with it being a Niche thing.

This way the games actually you know...stay good instead of going for dollar signs.

It was actually the first time it's crashed for me in months. (I actually cant remember the last time) From my perspective they're doing a pretty good job. Technical mishaps will always happen as long as technology isn't 100% reliable and I think it'll be a long, long, long time before that happens.

I'd say that dollar signs are probably a big part of the reason why there are pros and why they play such good games in Korea. SC1 and 2.

I've watched just about every night of GSL since season 1 and this is the first time it crashed, and it came right back after I refreshed it. No complaints here.

Oh man, you must have missed the night with the Jinro versus Idra bo5. That was some intense crashing. Too many foreigners wanted to see it.

The stream crashed tonight but it was immediately after the results of Jinro's match were basically written in stone so it was fine.

I've always liked GOM, I don't know why, but I didn't look into not liking them. I've always just wanted to blame everything on Blizzard, or thank Blizzard.

GOM providing a free stream is not your right as an individual, you should be thankful that it exists. Hopefully the game expands, is embraced, lasts just like Brood War has, and changes the world into playing wargames instead of actually engaging in them.

Does anyone randomly get errors when trying to play the free stream? I seem to get errors every 5-10 minutes which persist for a couple minutes each time. I also get a lot of lag issues with the free stream but that's probably just because of the Australian internet.

I'm just sad that they cracked down on restreamers as hard as they have. Before I were able to casually watch the matches at work via some restream but that's not an option now since I cant use gomplayer at work.
Sure I could buy the vods but the thing is that I really dont think that sc2games are really worth it, not yet atleast.
My opinion is that if they really wanna grow the audience they should allow restreams so that everyone can enjoy the games just like we do with the bwgames

lol u dum

why would there be any correlation between $$ and bad games. Also, id point out that the reason why there is such an awesome BW scene in korea is because of big sponsorships, which dont come from having a niche thing.

its always nice to vent out rage regarding streams dying, regardless of what is causing to to crash/die (shitty net, streamer sucks, restreamer has crappy net) .. its perfectly understandable .. its because youre a fan and you love the game .. people who say that "its not your right .. blah blah blah" should be aware that every people has an opinion to say and its not like what the OP said is destructive ..

perfectly understandable OP 5/5

I must say that this season has been very smooth up to the Jinro vs Rainbow match. I'm using the free stream and it is telling me I have 300k bandwidth to Korea but everything is super fine this time around somehow...
I'm posting on twoplustwo because I have always been amazed at the level of talent that populates this site --- it's almost unparalleled on the Internet.

Back in the day, the only way to get live English Starcraft commentary was to get on ventrilo with Klazart and spend half your time trying to sync your constantly rebuffering stream to his.
Of course, you only live one life, and you make all your mistakes, and learn what not to do, and that’s the end of you.

If you have this much trouble the problem is most likely on your end in some way, not GOMTV's, as it's not the norm in any way. A blanket statement like GOMTV sucks, as a result of your troubles, is childish.

I probably watch 80% of all GSL games, and I've yet to see more than 1 time where it crashed and I couldn't simply reopen the player right away to find it working again.

Yes, I watched almost all the games with Jinro, IdrA, MC, MVP, and I have no problems with the stream at all. Of course the site can be slow from times to times, but the stream itself? Never. So I personally think that for a FREE service, GOM is doing an awesome job on the stability of the stream. And a free stream, for 100% of both the Code A and Code S games, crashing from time to time for some people means GOM sucks?

Can you please go yell at ESPN and NHL that they suck, so they put up FREE streams of ALL NHL games? Even though they crash once in a while, I'll be glad to watch them on there. Because you know, companies who suck and don't care about their viewers obviously set up free worldwide streams for all their content...

In case you wondered, no I don't have a season ticket, I watch the free stream, and it still works well.

Agreed, title hurts esports. It's like someone coming along and giving esports a charlie horse for no reason.

Wouldn't it be more productive for GOM if they made a deal with Youtube to stream the free standard quality live on Youtube, so that the site would stop crashing and also free up the staff's time from hunting down GSL videos on Youtube like the Spanish Inquisition?

I think that would benefit both paying customers when the bandwidth load is eased off the site (no more crashes!), and free users, for the free users will end up using someone else's (Youtube's) bandwidth since they aren't contributing to revenue anyhow, and they could throw down banners every 5-10 minutes telling Youtube's free viewers that much better streams and quality can be had for paying viewers.

GomTV sucks, I agree. OGN has never demanded a single cent for their stream yet the stream never stopped working at random times, they released the vods for free, they never demanded stupid copyright either. Now, we look at GomTV. If you want to watch while being able to see anything besides the terrain, you have to pay. Restreams are not allowed even in their conditions. They want money for VODs as well, they get all this money and yet nothing works without problems. Either OGN has some magical thing that is also used by MBCGame (their stream doesn't suck as well) or GomTV really sucks. I don't know how else I can explain my frustration for GomTV.

I keep getting error code: 0x000000051

The GomLab tells me to click the button that says: Find Codec

Problem is, that button does not exist. My error message says 'Confirm that you are running the correct codec.'

WTF? Help? I really want to watch Code S. I've searched for a solution for an hour. Now I turn to you guys... Sorry if this has already been addressed.

Lol count our blessings? Wtf, is GOM Santa Claus now? Streaming SC2 out of the good of their heart? Its a business yo, not a charity.

they require me to download a player that sucks in order to view their streams, and even the high quality setting is shitty...I uninstalled the player right away and now want to cancel my account there.

Eh, isn't the HQ stream free for the World Championship? I have a feeling that with so many people logging on to see top foreigners playing tonight on the HQ stream, site and stream troubles would be inevitable.

Gom does some stuff wrong but man they kinda bust their asses for us. It seems that you get more crashes than most people; everyone crashed tonight but I can't remember crashing on other nights this season so far.

Ya know, I've watched BroodWar for years and there's never been a problem. Saying GOM is busting their asses doesn't make them competent. Legit companies have their shit together and don't constantly rely on their paying viewership to forgive failures in an industry that is mapped out and has precedents of companies who've made it work.

Asking for forgiveness when you have a long history of doing things right is okay. That's like when Flash v Jaedong finals had a blackout. Asking for forgiveness a couple times a week just makes it sound like you're doing a crap job.

edit: my point being GOM aren't exactly pioneers here. There's companies that have been doing this right for a really long time.

Unless you want no GSL, then don't complain. Sure, it might not be the most stable, but nothing's perfect.

GOM stream has crashed for me once. So I restarted it.

Seriously, complain about lack of LAN, not GOM's occasionally unreliable stream.

Same here... I'm so sad... especially since I'm a paying customer. This is disappointing.
