Dear Aussies
Your friendly neighbourhood bloodyc0bbler will most likely be making an appearance in your fun land of awesomeness come february or march and be staying awhile. As such I need some help.
People who can show me + my companion around the area
Any information on areas that are must see attractions or things to do
If anyone would be so kind as to let us couch surf briefly ( I will cook you yummy food!)
Or anyone who wants to get together in general.
Anyone have leads on work? I shall need them!
This will be my first international experience and I hope that it will be amazing and I really would appreciate any help you guys could provide. As I have more information (flight times, budget, etc...) I will be able to narrow down a list of exactly the things that would most help.

I'm planning on being there for 2-3 months. Basically the area's that have more of what I want to see is where I will be primarily. There are a few things I must see though and will spend a small fortune to do (great barrier reef for instance)

fruit picking is good, theres a pretty good infastructure set up for travellers. assuming thats the kind of thing you want to do. Also try and get to an island, fraser/moreton are pretty good assuming you wanna try out camping, otherwise a day trip or something. Theres some really good beaches in queensland. if you're heading up to the great barrier reef anyway try and get to "Agnes waters". It kinda near bundaberg, IMHO it can be one of the best quality surf beaches in queensland and the town of 1770 is nearby with a calm bay thing where you can do water stuff like canooing etc.
As for brisbane where i live, its really pretty boring here but we've got like, i dunno, a museum? iono

We have fairly regular meets for GSL and starleague finals in melbourne, if you're down at that time let us know ;0
You should definitely visit Tasmania while you're down under, do the Gordon River Cruise, see Mount Wellington and visit beaches along the west coast. You can get there pretty cheap by taking the ferry from melbourne.

There are all sorts of things to do in any of the cities here in Aus - just depends on which one you're going to, but if you can go to all, do it.
Melbourne/Sydney have a lot of our sporting culture (especially Melbourne - Australian Football League FTW!)
There are nice nature sorts of things up in Queensland/Perth/Tasmania/Northern Territory
South Australia has umm... Pandas on loan from the China zoo.

Also summer isn't far away so if you're staying during that then be ready for 40 degree days, day after day...

in summer it doesnt get as hot here, it stays a nice temp all year round in fact, we got this Tahune air walk, where you can get up in the trees and walk around, theres actualyl LOTS of cool natural stuff in tasmania if youre into walks and forests and stuffs. Look up cradle mountain too.
Theres a good market always packed with tourists, look up salamanca market. Theres a nice Botanical Gardens. If youreinto for a night or two camping theres a beach, not a surf beach but a beautiful beach, i think they ranked it in top 10 in world or somethign recently iirc called wineglass bay. Port arthur is a good place to visit if you liek history, or even if you dont, a whole bunch of buildings still standing from the convict days in tasmania, again some nice beaches around and good camping spots . one of my fav places is this place called Mt Field national park, its a good day trip, a nie waterfall and good walking track in a beautiful forest and you usally will see some cool tassie wildlife!

i find kangaroos are the most dangerous thing
well , if you do alot of driving on remote roads like i have , many near misses ; i try avoid driving from 6pm-8am for this reason

oh, if you come to brisbane, and someone says LOL LETS GO TO THE GOLD COAST, slap them in the face and tell them that the sunshine coast is better and you should go there instead
