I've had my permit for 2 weeks, and already had my first accident.
Luckily, it wasn't to bad. No one was hurt. Not big enough for airbags to deploy.
Also luckily, it wasn't my fault. I was going down a street and had rite of way, the other driver didn't stop/didnt stop completely/didnt bother to look both ways and i hit him.
Unluckily, this car has already been totaled but we were able to salvage it. IDK how this will work out for us financially.
Life is fun.

My first accident was during the driving test for my liscense. Also minor, and not my fault. Did the other guy have a stop sign or something?
|
For a noob I guess it's understandable.
I've been driving for a while so it'd be an embarrassment for a pro like me to get into an accident.
|
Oh, I guess you should stick to the back-roads before you go out on the main streets again. With experience you'll develop quicker reaction time for situations like this, something you can't have with only 2 weeks of a permit.
|
Shitty deal. Got in my first one last month.
Not... Fun...
GL with the financial situation.
|
Ya, he had a stop sign, I was on one of our towns main thoroughfares. Ya I do realize I probably could have avoided it had i been more experienced, its still his fault. at least 90% his fault, though then again someone else might not have been able to avoid it either.
Sucks for your driving test...
|
I still haven't gotten in an accident, knock on wood.
Just be glad you didn't hit some expensive car, shit costs so much just for a little dent (personal experience).
|
I'm 24 and only have a few speeding tickets to my name, accident free. However, while my sister was up here (WA state) with my mom looking at colleges, I took the rental car out for a quick late not taco bell run. Having not driven for something like 2.5 years now. I fender-bendered in about .06 seconds. My EE-HAN brake timing is way off.
That was irrelevant.
Glad you are OK though.

Hahaha. Yeah, you need to learn defensive driving. There are lots of terrible drivers (lots of women). It gets worse when you're driving near old women. They don't even signal or check before changing lanes. Don't get me started on old asian women. (Sup stereotypes)
Edit: Typo

Accident free and only one speeding ticket (although it never went on my insurance for some reason. Cop said it wouldn't and it never showed up) and I drive like a fucking maniac on the road. I'm fairly lucky thou.

During my drivers test I got the car in the sidewalk, it was only a tire on a very tight turn. I passed a stop sign, don't know what happened there... I just did not stop. I turned to see the guy and he smiled a little.
I had been driving for about a year before the exam.
70 points were needed to pass. I got 72. I was very happy (:
|
Wow, I've never been in an accident like that but I'm always worried about it..
People will pull up to an intersection and not look at me comming.. so.. unless i make eye contact with them I kinda slow down...
This kinda accident has almost happened to me like 5-6 times
|
The old ladies are ALWAYS out to get us young ones man, careful.
No joke, everytime someone cuts me off or something it's always an old woman when I look. One time she was even shaking her fist at me and cussing...
|
From everything I've read it seems that men are better drivers but get in more wrecks because they are BALLSY. So my advice is to not be ballsy and take it slow
I've had my lisence since 2004 and have never been in a wreck, got a ticket, or even been pulled over.
Thats really bad luck though, thankfully everyone was ok.

The car has been totalled already but you were able to salvage it? That doesnt make any sense T_T And financially...well you should have car insurance for that...
I think i got 2 tickets (first one was stupid, unlucky speedtrap, second was totally my fault and while not dangerous i probably deserved) within ~4 months of getting my license. That was 3 years ago though and no accidents yet ^_^
|
my first accident was when i was 15 driving my friends car... with no license or permit so cops gave me a $500~ fine with 5 pts already in my license that i dont have lol

Life is fun. The car has been totalled already but you were able to salvage it? That doesnt make any sense it does make sense. if repair cost > car worth then the car has total damage. but when you repair it yourself or get it done from a friend or something like this you can still keep your car.

Yeah, well usually when repair cost > car worth, you don't salvage it, you cash in the insurance check ~~

No problem. Nothing to be ashamed of. Lewis Hamilton crashed in the pit lane. Twice.

Does it count if my car was parked and i got hit?

15 yr girl smashed my door !!

only accidents i've been in are when my sister was driving, so quite a few. two weeks after getting her first car we got into a lame accident where she failed to hit the brakes thus hitting the person in front of us. weren't going fast but she managed to total the car, was really dumb.
|
First car accident? Planning another then, are you?
|
Pretty shitty to get in an accident so soon after getting your permit. I've been lucky enough and have avoided getting in an accident or getting a ticket for 5 years now.
|
I just took my first driving test a few weeks ago, and failed. I've had my permit for about four years, but have only gotten behind the wheel to practice a handful of times in that period. It was raining when I took my test, but I hit a few stupid instant fails that I'm pretty sure I can avoid next time, and my driving wasn't bad other than that.
Never been in an accident myself.
My brother has been rather unlucky, though. Totaled his bike years ago, his Civic several years ago, and his Scion a few back.
|
I had my first car accident (and last, hopefully) 2 days after taking my driving license, which was also my 19th Birthday..... it was a minor self accident. I hit the church wall..... I remember the pastor walking out to see what was happening only to see me really pissed and cursing

Wow, some lax rules in the US. Either of these on it's own would be an automatic fail here in Canada.

My sister had an accident in it last summer. The guy from insurance came over and declared it was totaled. We could either get 13k from insurance, they take car and we buy a new one or they give us 11k and we keep the car. We had a guy from a body shop give it an estimate and he said 8k, so we salvaged it. but now that we have already salvaged it once, I'm not sure whats gonna happen. Given that it was 90-100% his fault it should be fine, but you never know.

Well, when my first used car got wrecked completely, I called it quits and disposed the car on the junkyard.

good brakes are underrated :D
