This is a pretty big derail, but it's your blog, so... The first two sentences are identical. In Japanese, the only person whose likes and dislikes you can really talk about with 好き without going through some grammatical contortions is yourself, so specifying that 好き refers to 私 isn't really necessary. It's more natural in most contexts to leave the pronoun off. 花火を愛です makes absolutely no sense, because you have the direct object particle を followed by the copula です. Even if you corrected it to 花火が愛です, you'd be equating fireworks and love in some mysterious way, which while far from impossible in context is sort of strange alone. The closest to correct would be 花火を愛する, but that's weird too since usually 愛 is a deep love for someone close to you or an ideal like peace. Your current hypercorrection to 私は花火を愛するです combines する and です, both sentence-final, in an ungrammatical way, so it's straight up wrong. Just go with 花火が好きです. On-topic: Be nice to the kid and try to make him feel welcome. This would be futile advice if it were high school, but people in a college classroom should be mature enough to respect someone going through what that kid is. If you think it's awkward being "shown up" by a 13-year-old kid, imagine what it's like for him being in a class where he can relate to no one and is most likely painfully aware of how much he stands out, not to mention the probable parental pressure involved.

I do not see why it should be of any particular relevance to you if a prodigy is studying at the same university. Just accept that some people are particularly gifted and move on. Besides, being a prodigy is a double-edged sword. If you are talented, people will have much bigger expectations from you then they would of others your age. Such pressure is something that is difficult for a child in his/her early teens to handle, so I would not be suprised if what Husky says is true. Still, there are examples where prodigies did end up being successful as adults as well, such as Mozart.

Does believing this somehow make you feel better? Indeed, that was a hilarious comment. And Husky, I'm sure you look back at your supersoaker days with fondness, but I'm sure this kid will look back on learning _fill in advance subj here_ as greatly enriching to his personal development. I love the attitude in the west, where academics are somehow assumed to be the drudgery of childhood, where for some reason, children don't *want to learn, and has to be forced by their parents. lol. Hilarious, it's only by learning about the world around you can you become a true person, with your own mind. Learning science and philosophy, learning how the world works, was my greatest joy as a kid, and I don't think I was a nerd.

So he'll get a job 5 years sooner than the average person? Who the fuck cares. I would rather enjoy my childhood instead of worrying about passing a college class. Child geniuses like never do anything that great anyways. Just because they're smart as a kid does not mean they're some sort of amazing person later in life. Congrats to the kid for wanting to go to college but damn, I sure as hell wouldn't want to do that at 13. I was taking college classes at the age of 15 and graduated high school as a sophomore in college. While doing this I was very active in football/track/basketball/tennis, receiving regional recognition freshmen to senior year in each. You don't "sacrifice" your childhood to take higher level courses. Those higher level courses count as dual credit for high school and keep you from being bored in a classroom for 8 hours a day. + Show Spoiler + This is not a brag, there is no other way to present it than state flat out facts.

Don't be too competitive, and aim for a goal that you can reach. Don't let the kid make you feel stupid, even if he does better than you. I also agree that going to college that early is a terrible idea. Being from a typical Asian family, i basically got pushed to skip grades and start college early. Once I got into college, I realized that I never got to enjoy my childhood, so I took a year off to get a job...and play Starcraft. Wow, 10 year old taking Calculus? Amazing
