so there is a little 13 year old kid taking a high level course (junior/senior) with me, at the university. i just asked him.
i have to admit i've never felt this stupid in my entire life. it makes me uncomfortable knowing i will see him almost everyday learning from the same professor.
i will kill myself if i fail this course and he passes it.
yes, the kid is asian.
any thoughts on how to handle this o,o?
edit: i put him on my SE team, seems like a cool kid and has a shitload of manners, let's see how he does ^^

swirly dude, give him the fuckin swirly!

Get over it, MOST OF THE WOrLD THINKS ALL ASIANS ARE SMART. It's a stereotype, care to learn it? Anyway, i think i saw a new story a year or so ago where an ASIAN!!! (OMG NO WAY) 13 year old kid was in college. Then i thought he should play SC.

Racist towards Asians? lol I'm planning to move to Japan after I graduate.
Ever heard of the (possibly true) stereotype that Asian people tend to be really smart at pretty much all academics? I think this is possibly true do to the emphasis their parents tend to put on academics from a young age.

challenge him to starcraft, if he declines then he is a wuss and you should give him a swirly, and if he accepts you win. Its a win-win situation.
Unless he is korean of course, if thats the case i would drop the class.

cheat off him if you feel your going to fail. Remember younger kids always think older people are cool.

Maybe you can talk to him about starcraft, asians i think are known to be very gifted with this game.

LOL. Imagine if you were 13 having to take college level courses. That would have been the stupidest shit ever.
Who gives a balls if the kid is smart. So he'll get a job 5 years sooner than the average person? Who the fuck cares. I would rather enjoy my childhood instead of worrying about passing a college class.
Child geniuses like never do anything that great anyways. Just because they're smart as a kid does not mean they're some sort of amazing person later in life.
Congrats to the kid for wanting to go to college but damn, I sure as hell wouldn't want to do that at 13.

I agree, when I was 13, I was more worried about why the fuck I was growing hair on my balls, and having the best super soaker water gun to win in my water gun fights against neighborhood kids. I was not at all interested in the development and evolution of American Literature, or the fundamental processes of the Economic system.

Ignore him and just take the class like a normal non-weird person...?

Its funny, every asian movie ive seen, tends to have some really stupid people in it, and then some normal guys, never an intellectual or whatever.

He did his HS in like a third of the time as you did. And he is smart for choosing to have the hardest part of his life (college and work) when he is best able to face it, aka. while he is still young. Dont come with shit like "they never do anything special anyway" if you are such an ignorant asshole.

O.o. I don't know how you took my post to be ignorant. Just because we view it differently doesnt mean I'm ignorant. I personally think that going to college at 13 is a terrible idea. You completely miss out on your childhood and all the badass things you get to do as a kid. I'm sure he has friends his own age but he doesn't really get to go to class with them at all.
All the articles I've read before about kids graduating college early really don't go on to do anything 'that special'. All I was saying was just because you are smart at a young age does not mean you are more intelligent at an older age.

I'd guess that there are many intelligent Asians, after all they make up a huge part of the world's total population. Many Africans don't have the chance to prove their inteliigence in the first place, so you can subtract another big chunk of humanity.
Also, in many areas in Asia, people study extremely hard if they get the chance to. It's expected in their society. If I am informed correctly, China's government takes quite forceful actions to produce such "gifted" children/people in all areas.
Chances are, that child isn't all that much more intelligent than you, but he most likely studies harder while you are having fun. Children can learn a lot, but they can't reflect it so well. They simply do what their parents tell them.
If he actually is as mature as you (or other people of your age, in case you aren't very mature either ), respect him. It's not your fault that your mind developed at a normal speed (lol). Though I would be surprised if he isn't suffering from some genetical defect or something like that if his mind is years ahead of his body. If he isn't, just think about him as someone who spent his short life studying all day long because that's most likely what he has been doing. I personally wouldn't want to miss my childhood, really.

I've had experience with this before, as the kid I was 10 when I took AP Calculus, and looking back, I did not enjoy it at all. I was fucking scared of all the older kids, who were like twice my age.
My advice to you would be to just ignore him and try your best. Don't be too competitive, and aim for a goal that you can reach. Don't let the kid make you feel stupid, even if he does better than you.
I also agree that going to college that early is a terrible idea. Being from a typical Asian family, i basically got pushed to skip grades and start college early. Once I got into college, I realized that I never got to enjoy my childhood, so I took a year off to get a job...and play Starcraft.
