Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion. For regular posters, don't quote the trolls.

This friend of mine I have always suspected he's gay. Whether he is or isn't doesn't make any difference to me. Upon introducing him to many of my other friends(including one fella who says he has very enhanced gaydar), almost all of them think he's gay. The one exception is on the fence about it, he thinks this buddy is just a very feminine guy - but he's not gay. So here's the specific behaviours/attributes: - He dresses fairly flamboyant compared to the rest of us, typically a nicer shirt, more flashy hairstyle, generally stuff that looks better than the nerdy clothes around us - He's very anti-gay and makes a big point many times, that he came from a Catholic school, so therefore he hates gays. It's a well-worn cliche in movies/TV that the biggest bigot is precisely the one who's secretly gay, and overcompensating as a result. - His general mannerisms are very feminine. He speaks in a high-pitched voice which...it's not where it's a Mike Tyson type of pitch(big huge man with a small voice), but it has an almost feminine melody to it. The way he waves his hands, the way he blushes and smiles when people suggest "oh you guys can be diving buddies now". - The types of girls he likes are people like Paris Hilton. To me that would have sealed the deal, ok he's not gay if he likes Paris. But my gaydar friend says "well lots of gay guys like Paris Hilton because of her fashion". So that one got me. Mr. Gaydar also observed "he seems think he's better than everyone else". So what do you think? I say he is a hater. Self and others. I love canada. O Canada. What the hell is that supposed to mean? Maybe you need to re-read my post. There's not a shred of homophobia or hate in there. I'm simply asking questions. Maybe my friend is just a very feminine straight man, and maybe he's gay. Either way he's my friend. He attracts a lot of women but turns them all down, maybe it's just high standards, maybe it isn't. A lot more hate coming from you, than from me.

Mr. Gaydar also observed "he seems think he's better than everyone else". So what do you think? What a silly post. You can't just derive whether someone is a closeted homosexual from a short text description... human behavior and sexuality are way too complicated to ever get a 100% read on someone. It's really quite pointless to try and figure a friend's sexual preference out beyond what identity they have chosen for themselves at the moment. What a silly response. Mora stated from the get-go that questions are welcome here, with the gaydar being mentioned - does it exist? We're not in the same room talking and looking at each other - how else do you expect me to describe my friend, if it's not text? How exactly, is everyone else communicating with each other here, if it's not text? It's easily argued that the question wasn't even directed towards you, but towards someone like Mora, who can weigh in with their thoughts and opinions, specifically on the topic of gaydar.

Who cares whether someone doesn;t like that you are gay or not? If you are good at Starcraft, you have my respect in that regard. Would it change my opinion of Huk or TLO if they were gay? No! It would make my man crushes go away a little, but I'd still love them as great people. It's not like players do anything sexual while playing, anyway. Be whoever you want, though for the love of the game, don't pull a GundamWeRRa. Considering this is a thread for gay people, not paedophiles I think it'll be just fine!

Mr. Gaydar also observed "he seems think he's better than everyone else". So what do you think? I'll give this a try - but keep in mind I'm not gay, I'm transgendered. A person acting "feminine" or fairly "flamboyant" is not acceptable evidence to draw conclusions about a person's sexuality, which is an entirely different province. You may notice certain patterns that concur between a person's sexuality and that person's mannerism for several people, but it is unfair to therefore make the leap that if someone else has said mannerism, he also has said sexuality. It's a lot like saying many monkeys like bananas, and many people like bananas, and so people = monkeys (which, although we are related to, are classified differently) So what does that mean for your friend? Well, he seems to be a gay-hating "flamboyant" person with a high pitched voice who likes paris hilton. That's about it really, and i think that's all you should assume him to be. Is it possible he's a closet homosexual? perhaps. It's also possible that that's all there is to it. Everything you listed has to do with personality, not sexuality, and we shouldn't make the leap that one correlates with the other blindly. Now, if you had listed - He is sexually attracted to cisgendered males then we might have something EDIT: I think the poster above might have responded negatively because he took offense to your implication that queer people have said characteristics, and there seems to be something ingrained that makes you assume as such. This is not the case! To be linked to liking Paris Hilton is something you don't want to automatically done unto you, although this might be innocuous. It's a lot like saying "that person is black because he likes fried chicken".
