Another issue of random stuff that's been ringing in my ears this week. No theme, just cool music. Got some Electro-Swing, Indie-pop stuff, a dance/trance song for you and more jazz-hop.

Electro-Swing
In the five main genres of electronic music (Electronica, DnB, Dance, House and Hip-Hop) and their sub-genres there's a few things that get to me. Firstly is the looping. Four minutes of the same sound isn't something I enjoy. In house music I dislike how empty most of the songs feel. There's no rhythm section in the middle. It's like having a sandwich without butter and just some bits of cheese in it. It's missing the real meat of the music. So this is where Electro-Swing comes in. Surely if they're
Ok well this is more of an announcement than a review but jazz-hop gateway Bob42jh has released his next compilation album, this time all instrumental. I haven't listened to all of it but I know that Bob has impeccable taste. It's full of lesser-known artists (sure to force you to spend hours searching the internet for more about them). If you're new to jazz-hop, go subscribe to his YouTube Channel and check out this compilation. He was the guy who compiled the excellent Flowers for Jun compilation.
I know a lot of people here like this kind of music and I'm not normally one of them. I didn't go looking after this song and you can figure out how I found it. There's just something about this pop song remix, amongst the thousands of others, that I like. I can't really explain it, it's just way better than the other ones. Maybe it's because it's less of a loop than the other ones I've heard. I don't really know. Anyway, I thought I'd cater to the masses here. I know a lot of guys like to play StarCraft to this kind of thing so here you go. Maybe you could link it to HuK instead of the shitty stuff he plays normally on his stream.
Well, guess this first part ended up to be about electronic music. How odd. I had a bunch of other tracks I wanted to put here, but I'll save them for when the albums arrive so I don't end up writing about them two weeks in a row.

I so badly wanted to get Hated Sunday for you but my file has corrupted and I can't get it onto to YouTube for you but if you can find a way to listen to it, it's a wonderful track. Anyway, Last.fm described England Made Me as having "lyrically sophisticated pop-tunes" and that's surprisingly accurate. Musically it's trip-hop without the drums and with indie instrumentation. It's slow, down-beat and poignant. I know there are other bands like this but I can't think of any at the moment so sorry about that. The topics in the songs are very English (issues with growing up in England, our dry optimism and humour etc) but they're all written almost analytically so it doesn't come off as a kid whining in a song, it comes off as an adult giving you an epiphany. I'm occasionally in the mood for this kind of music and when I am I come to this album. The music is pretty and sad, the vocals are perfect for this music and the lyrics clever and fitting. The second track is a cover of that classic song and it says a lot about Black Box Recorder. If you're ever in a melancholic mood, you could do worse than to check this album out.
My New Albums
Due to the six no post-days since last Friday due to Easter and some wedding, I haven't had much arrive this week.
[b]White Mink : Black Cotton/b]
Check out the first tracks in the main text. Good electro-swing and house and whatever. Try it out.
II - Xerath
Symphonic Metal returns and this album is good. I think. The thing is, it's got the most forgettable tracks I've heard in ages. I can't remember a thing about it beyond Unite to Defy which is the opening track. While I remember lots of moments from their first album, this one just floats by. I'll keep listening to it until something strikes me.
Albums Released This Week
I got nothing on my list for this week. I'm sure I heard about something being released on Wednesday but I can't for the life of me remember what it is.
Last Paragraph
I was thinking about how best it is to play music for your friends. I'm sure every one of you has played a track a track for a friend, only to have them not react while you try to assure them that "it gets better in a moment". I used to do this a lot, but I gave up on that. I have a lot of friends that I just link songs to now and I feel the best way is just to link them and not say much more. If they don't like it, they don't have to respond. Better yet, just lend them a CD in person. Then when they give it back they can just say what they liked. My Dad will always pick out the tracks he likes best for me which helps me recommend stuff in the future. My friend Sam will always prepare his summary in brief because he is worried I'd be insulted if he didn't like it. I have some friends who I'm certain will love a CD, only to have them say "meh" and move on. I have one friend who does this with CDs that I was absolutely sure she'd love, only to find her listening to it three years later on repeat for a month. So far she has done this with Pain of Salvation and Symphony X. Just waiting on her to realise she loves Terria now...
