I have some pretty amazing fucking awesome ideas for tattoos I want. Unfortunately, my ideas are pretty complicated and will require a lot of time. My current idea is to get a smaller tattoo to gauge the pain, ie: can I take it without pussying out?
You see...I have this irrational fear of needles. Want a tattoo...terrified of needles. Weird, right?
Well, I'm gonna try, at least. I've been trying to think of something I could get that wouldn't be terribly retarded in 1/2/3/5/10/50 years etc but honestly I've been drinking so it hasn't been going too well.
And I know that people will reply with such insightful advice as "man up, pussy" etc but I'll tell you all preemptively to stfu. Pain and fear are subjective, your experiences mean shit to me, honestly. I'm not you. That part should be very easily clear, unless you're tripping balls or something.
So, I'm looking for logical suggestions: simple, timeless ideas for a tattoo. Something smallish, simple, etc. I'm willing to provide details upon request but keep in mind I won't be drunk for too long.

You should post a picture of yourself if you want honest suggestions, some guys can pull some stuff off, others can pull other stuff off. Doesn't have to include your face if you're not gonna put the tattoo there ^^

well if you just want to gauge the pain it should be pretty small and timeless indeed. Cant go wrong with a tribal pattern or the Razer logo. Just dont pick a spot where there the skin touches bone. Go for a muscle like the bicep.

Go to singapore and get a tatoo showing your inner identity, even though you are an outsider.

Your "pain gauging" thing works well in theory (I guess) but diff parts of body will feel pain differently. On an arm band I have, different parts hurt more than other parts and then when I got a chest one done it hurt a lot more than the worse part of my arm band.
So... sack up and do it. The pain is part of the experience and when it's over it's almost like you went through a rite of passage. For me tattoo's have closed sections of my life and the whole ordeal really made me feel that way.
Looking at them is a reminder of where I've been

also, tribal tattoos pretty gay. if you say you actually have ideas don't resort to something retardedly generic to test your theory.
bee sting = worst~

bee sting = worst~ Nah, nothing like that. Maybe if I was a native American though...but I'm not. Oh well.

You could even step it up a notch and use color ink.

Based on that pic you can pull off most styles, i'd go with something classic. Are you at all into poker?
^ On your shoulder or upper arm.
Another suggestion would be ye olde compass rose which is a classic for a reason, it's quite decorative but also common.
^ Another good option imo, would work best on the back or front of your shoulder.

The point about location is a good one, and one I'd thought about. I was definitely thinking shoulder area (on the arm) as it's relatively meaty. If I pussy out there I'd not want to go for less meaty areas.

Concerning your fear of needles:
I have a HUGE fear of needles. I've come to close to fainting with a needle in my arm, they absolutely terrify me. I freak out, hyperventilate, the colour from my face completely disappears.
BUT! The needles they use for tattoos are not even comparable to doctor's needles. They experience is completely different. I have 7 tattoos by this point, and a tattoo needle has never come close to freaking me out in any way. Good luck!

It's more of like....it's a bit of metal. Skin is not intended to have bits of metal jabbed into it, especially at high speed.....it's just.....errrrrg.
Whatever. I'm gonna man up and get something.
Right now the best idea is the puzzle piece....

Oh and also,
If pain is a big problem then just avoid tattooing over boney or awkward (ie. inside of the elbow) places. Also, if you get a "solid" tattoo rather than just an outline the shading will take up most of the time and be the more painful than just a simple outline. They actually use different needles for drawing the lines and for filling them in.
