Does this guy have an actual career or a job? or does he make money making appearences at shows and commentating? or for him, is it just a hobby? doing his daily and going to tournments and stuff?
ive watched some of his daily shows, seems like hes your typical post graduate still living in some sort of frat house?
I wonder what this guy is going to do for living.... this sc2 thing hes got going on isnt going to be forever.... Just like the cast of jersey shore their 15 mins of fame will be over someday,,, then what?
whats on day9's agenda?

whats on day9's agenda? You make it sound like Day[9] is some rando guy that barely anyone knows. 1. Day9 is doing very well on the starcraft front, "15mins of fame" is quite the opposite of what his starcraft life has been/will be like. 2. He is in the process of finishing his university education, im quite sure that if for some reason sc2 doesn't work out for him, he has somewhat of a career to fall back on....

Im more curious about your agenda. You sound awfully lot like a troll, as day9 is celebrity in SC2, maybe the single best commentator on scene.
Sure, SC2 isnt as big as football or such established sports, but Esports is getting more popular each year. As long as starcraft is around, im pretty sure day9 will always find sponsors or casting jobs around the world.

in #272 Day9 wanted to demonstrate a 4gate and chose Random as race (Around 10 min)..... and got Protoss. Like a boss! Day9 seems to be stronger than randomness :-)

thats all i wanted to know,,, call me a troll? whatever that means... there kinda cute looking, so ill take that as a compliment?
like is this his living? hobby,,,, what is it? sc2? will it be popular 30 years from now? thats what im getting at,, hes a young dude,,, same age as me prolly.... Im a chemical process engineer, yeah prolly not the most exciting job ever,,, but it has benefits, sick pension plan, and as a junior operator my first year out of school im making 75K,,, thats not including bonus and Overtime... or shutdowns,,,, etc...
I enjoy his comentating,,,, all i was curious about,,, is this his living? or just a hobby? 30 years from now, when hes old and what not, will he have a pension plan or money to take care of his children, send them to school, etc...
sooo by the sounds of it,, hes a student,,,, taking math... is that to be a teacher? to fall back on?
|
also,,, why does day 9 not compete anymore? schooling taking to much time to practice? would he not make more money winning big GSL tournys? or was the transition from BW to SC2 not interesting enough for him to compete?
how would he fair in the GSL if he were to compete?
Im not knockin him at all... just curious to see where exactly he stands these days....
or has he gone more of the promoter, commentator side of the game now? has his ability to compete in the game worn off? or the desire not there anymore?

He majored in Math, and is now in Graduate school at USC for some kind of Digital Media program I think. With that kind of educational background I'm sure there are plenty of options.

Yea, he has not had time to practice as much recently because of school. He has said he'd rather be a commentator right now.
But he's graduating soon so who knows maybe he'll make a comeback.

@kwan_1984
Aren't chemical process engineer's supposed to be able to write coherently without all the ,,,, .... and lack of capitalization? Sounds like something you would learn in university. (Maybe a hint to why some might think you are a troll)
As for the rest of you questions, calm down buddy. Pension plan? Support a child? Who knows, maybe he'll adopt an zergling. I've heard they are quite cheap and independant(...)
As for him being a professional player in sc2, his studies, daily's and casting gigs take up too much of his time atm but he has hinted at that he could return to play competitively after his thesis is done. We'll have to wait and see.

It's not rocket surgery. He's doing something he loves, and presumably making money doing it. He should continue doing it as long as it's feasible and he enjoys it. He doesn't need to rush into doing something he likes less just for more stability.

Besides I bet there is plenty of gaming companies (and the like) that would love to have someone like day9 within their ranks. I have a very hard time seeing day9 go without work if he wanted to.

Really glad Day9 did this. I was watching Grubby's stream during this, it was an awesome game.

Hi I just watched last daily about defending 4gate with fast Immortal. I think that's awesome idea. I tried to mimic BO from his daily during my 2 games against AI, then I thought I am going to hit a ladder with it. So I met a Protoss who did a 3g robo collossi (I was thinking he's gonna 4 gate me) and guess what. It smashes collossi build while I can affort to get my expansion! I'm 3300 master on EU.
Here's a replay, kinda sloppy play, but I really appraciate Day9's work and I will try to refine and test it more Regards http://www.sc2replayed.com/replays/152753-1v1-protoss-xelnaga-caverns

Was going to say the same thing. I can imagine a thesis.

Well, that is just the best dang thing I've heard all week!
He has also said that after he finishes his masters degree he'll start going full time into SC2.
Close second.

Why would a process engineer work as a junior operator? Those jobs typically don't require engineering degrees.
