btw just curious, to Chill: Did you apply to be a Code A caster? Hopefully this isn't a question you've heard too many times, if so - sorry in advance.
i dont know about you guys, but the accent complaints are justified. if chinese was my second language and my pronunciation was even remotely bad or hard to understand, i would never look for work as a chinese sports announcer, much less actually be hired as one.

Yea, you've seen many complains on Chill's accent while he cast TSL haven't you? Now you're just being silly.
Honestly, I didn't like Kelly as a caster for Code A. The depth of the cast was, lacking, and I really didn't like her voice that much. She however is a good caster just not for such a high profile tournament.
It is sad to see her go, a Female casting such a thing is the SAME as a Female Gamer. It reduces the stigma that gamers in general have being a primarily male fan base. GOM Should try to bring in female casters / gamers into GSL It only HELPS the sport as a whole as there are no real restrictions on it other than being good at what you do.
Kelly, while I think it is sometimes hard to understand her, coupled with Tasteless (Who in terms is lightyears beyond) Was wonderful. They shouldn't in my opinion put newbie* casters into the lime light with out some sort of experienced support.
*I do not mean that they are new to casting, only being on camera / casting to an audience of thousands more than they are used to. Receiving more critical criticism than they could be used to.
I don't mind Kelly with Artosis but Tasteless and Kelly together is such a bad combo. Two days ago I watched code A and heard tasteless saying "banelings are not good against hellions" and I facepalmed.... Artosis wasn't there to correct Tasteless and sometimes Kelly gives silly advice too.

Kelly said that she was only staying in Korea until the 17th of March. It definitely does seem to be a pre-planned decision based on the availability of their applicants for these trials.
edit: LOL, I don't know how to emb Youtube videos. Feel like a noob. edit2: nvm. Figured it out.
Yup, more people need to watch this video @2:25. The 1-season long "trial" had been planned even before she got to South Korea. It just wasn't made public by GOM until now.
Or, GOM had simply already told Kelly that (contrary to their original plan not to conduct trials and to employ her indefinitely) she would not be staying on for another season. All this video proves is that Kelly's departure isn't a recent decision. It sheds almost no light on the machinery behind her departure / whether she was fired or her "contract" simply wasn't renewed.
In short: you can't draw the conclusion that you do (that the trial had been planned) from this video.
So the season start at Feb 21, and on Feb 23,24 (by the time the video made), Gom already told Kelly that she is fired after just 1 day of casting? Or Gom is some evil company who made Kelly prepare for her departure to Korea for at least a year, then just told her that she would not stay on for another season right when she landed to Korea?
Sometimes life is simple as it is, she got a chance to trial (or contract for 1 month to wait for Doe and Moletrap, although I don't understand why Gom would go great length to hire 1 random casters and made all the news for 1 month but not contract Tasteless, Astosis, Torch,.v.v.v who already are there to help out 1 month more), she paid all the expense (flight,.vv.v.) as Gom said. Then what's wrong with her to go?
Gom has their reason to test out new casters. If Astosis indeed leaves Korea for NASL as his youtube clip said, Gom need to not only find their code A casters, but code S also.
You raise some really good points. But the news broke about Kelly casting Code A on February 18, and in six days it was blatantly clear to GOM how the community felt about her as a caster. Nonetheless I think you are right that it doesn't quite make sense for GOM to hire her indefinitely and then tell her within a week that she would actually only be on for one season. GOM would have to be a somewhat "evil company" to change plans on her suddenly like that.
Also, going back to GOM's original announcement that Kelly would be casting Code A (which someone has already quoted here) you can see strong suggestions that GOM never committed to hiring her indefinitely.
I now think it's unlikely that GOM ever had an agreement with Kelly that she'd cast Code A indefinitely. But there's still no evidence out there that this formalized "trial" system (announced yesterday) was in place from the beginning.
This is all just speculation, obviously. GOM could avoid it by having been more transparent about its caster selection process (from the start).

No. I don't have the endurance - I'm mentally and vocally fatigued by one TLOpen a week. I can (presumably, I don't know what casters make except what Rekrul posted) make a lot more money working my job.
let's face it day9 has tons of fans and very little haters because he's amazing at what he does. if kelly was doing a good job, there wouldn't be the kind of outcry that there is. the past couple of code A casts have just been describing what's happening on the screen. the lack of analysis and predicting what the players were setting up for really cheapens the product. i know we were spoiled by tastosis all the time, but the reason that i love em so much is because i learned so much every time they casted.
I like the sound of this tryout process, but I wish there was more overlap between the casters they were trying out. I was thinking Kelly and Doa were just starting to get some pretty good rapport going, and now Kelly is leaving.
Hard to judge which casters have good potential as a casting archon if they don't get to all cast with each other....
People saying Kelly's accent sucks and that's why nobody likes her
How many people complained about SDM? Some, but not as many as complained about Kelly. Sure, SDM was quite knowledgeable but honestly so is Kelly. A double-standard is at work.

This is intriguing evidence! Thank you for posting. It seems unlikely that GOM changed their mind then. More likely is that they hired her as a temp and used her as a temp.
There's a possibility that they hired her full time and then reneged after the negative feedback, but that seems like a stretch to me.
Her commentary is not terrible, it's just not that good either. It was worth trying her out for a season, but I don't expect to see her return. She just seemed arkward during the between game banter with tasteless and artosis. Which doesn't surprise me, as that kind of general silliness is hard to pull off well when english is not your native tongue.

SDM is so unbelievably much more knowledgeable than Kelly that using that as your basis for a double-standard is laughable.

The comments about SDM versus the comments about Kelly reflect the quality of the posters back then on TL and the quality of the new influx of posters, many of whom can't seem to be able to follow forum rules even if their life depended on it.
I didnt like her casting so much, its simply hard to have a female commentating the whole thing. its even worse with that accent and when you know, that she doesnt play on a decent level herself. she just points out the obviious, no analysis behind it.
