In his opinion (and the opinion of a lot of other people) she just wasnt cut to be a caster, because of her flaws (accent). If you're not capable of doing your job good enough your contract isnt extended (I dont say that she didnt do her job good enough, that's surely a topic for discussion). It's normal life. Why should "esports" be different? Also regarding the "cycling of casters" it isnt even sure that she got fired or if GOM planned to extend her contract in the first place. Because his opinion is not based on any shred of merit... Your not giving her a chance if you just outright mute the stream. How can you even begin to make assumptions about Kelly if you haven't even listened to her in the first place... And she did improve A LOT over the course that she did cast. How can we even begin to say that shes not doing a good job if we don't even take the time to listen to anything shes saying...
everyone with half a brain had listened to her casts before criticizing her skills.... we're not that stupid..... and gsl wasnt her first time casting.............................. give some credit to the man

Uhm, there're pro gamers flying to Korea to try out 1 GSL season, isn't it? As long as you don't pay any expense (or minimum) and your income is cover, why not? It's like going on a trip, or one month of studying aboard.

The community was unbelievably harsh to Kelly, and there was no reason for that. Your own personal opinions are exactly that... Opinions. If Kelly returns, congrats to her; if she doesn't, the GSL was still a huge shot in the arm for her career.
The amount of haters you have as a caster shouldn't actually matter. Having an audience should be her main goal, and people watching > people not watching!
Good luck, Kelly!
For all you haters out there, I expect you to be playing this song today. + Show Spoiler +
Everyone else, it's okay to cry a little!

That's how Singapore seems to be taking it. rofl i'm gonna read this, but by the looks of it, seems to be a helluva butthurting empty victimization nationalist piece of writing -edit: well i was so wrong, the article is pretty lame The article is pretty good actually.
Good that she doesn't take it too personal.

It is the GSL wouldn't you for a chance at a job on the biggest stage for Starcraft 2? This is just my guess, but I'd assume she got paid enough to cover her costs, and wouldn't be surprised if she stayed at the GOM house.

Really, she isnt that good of a caster. Some people are just not ment to be casters and Kellys high pitched voice is not a good caster voice. But if she still wanna be a professional caster she should: 1. Take voice lessons. 2. Get a neutral accent. 3. Learn how to pronounce units correctly, "the race cars"... cmon.
It's also nice in a way that people give her some shit because to many females has it to easy in esports just because they are girls.

I agree, it just seems like too much trouble to go through for 1 month for a chance to get a job... Life on hold

If a caster they got was really good and and they found what they were looking for I'm sure they would stop looking for other casters. I don't buy it either.

Her spoken sentence structure is extremely difficult to parse _quickly_ due to verb conjugation issues and missing or improper articles etc.
You can test this by transcribing to plain text what she is saying, then reading the text (removing the accent from the equation).
Any way, again, best of luck to her, I am however looking forward to meeting the new caster for next season. Actually, it's not hard at all to understand what she means. You people need to be around non-whites more often lol
I am a software developer, I'm one of only 2 white people in this office and am bombarded by thick accents all day long, many of my coworkers actually ask me to critique their spoken english and with great effort they are able to make significant improvements over time while still retaining fairly thick accents.
It takes a tremendous amount of effort from them to fix structure/grammatical issues, I'm not saying it's easy.

If GOM paid for the trip I think they might consider it. However if the trip was financed by the casters (from their pay) themselves the trial bit seems unlikely.

Didn't moletrap say he was going to Korea for three weeks for the selection thing? And this is before he went so it's not the possible "I got fired but we're saying this past month was a 1 month job trial".

i'm excited for the replacements, i hope GOM finds a perfect casting duo

Many players have done it, and just to have a longshot at qualifying for a grueling tournament that, if they perform well in, may land them in an even more difficult tournament that, if they place near the top of, will pay out enough to cover their travel and living expenses.
I mean: would you say the same thing about Torch?

I suppose this is what happens when your game knowledge isn't up to snuff. Multiple times in every cast I'd notice something she said that was just plain wrong. I'm not one to rag on someone for a mistake here or there, but her weaknesses as a caster and as a commentator to Western English speakers were a bit too much for GOM. Nothing against her but this is good for GSL, IMO.
The accent was a little rough for me (and I've worked with many people with asian accents, her accent was totally different and my experiences didn't help me with her accent at all) but that's not even my big complaint.

Even if she was fired, there's no reason why people should get angry. She wasn't well received, it's the natural thing to do. And god, it has nothing to do with her being a Singaporean.
Yes, it's a girl less to represent us in esports, but it's not like commentating is the only way to do it. Most people think she isn't cut for it, period. But she's still a player and still active in the community, she's probably gonna keep trying out tourneys and casting random SEA events anyway.
|
She actually wasn't a bad caster. Her knowledge of the game was about on par with Tasteless. She really just needs someone with good SC2 knowledge like Artosis to commentate with. Her and Tasteless or her and this new guy was worthless. For those saying you couldn't understand her...please. Her accent was thick but it wasn't hard to know what she was saying. I personally found her excitement entertaining.

Thats hyper cynical since its already been known, before she was selected that was the process.

I feel bad for the treatment that Kelly had to go through, but honestly this was not the job for her. I tried giving her a chance but she seriously made code A almost unwatchable to me. Good luck to whatever she does in the future, but I am glad that we can get some new blood in there to try out.
