I closed the thread, and yes, I'm aware of how the original post looked. He caught enough flak to get the message from some other posters, I was content just to close it.

Oh hi, sorry I don't keep up with this thread because I'm one of the more boring people on TL staff so I assume people don't really ask questions about me.
Anyway, I'm a third year undergraduate student; I'm majoring in statistics, but I really enjoy the natural/physical sciences. I'm quite interested in astronomy, though, and I took an introductory course last spring, which is pretty much all the formal education I've had in the subject. I read a lot of non-fiction books on physics/astronomy/cosmology/etc. in my free time, though, so I'd say I'm more informed than the average person.
There is a certain thread whose OP has not been updated since the thread's creation. As a regular to the thread, I figured that the OP could use a bit of revamping, but I was unsure as to the proper etiquette for such a procedure. Does the staff permit these sorts of "OP transplants", or is it best to contact the thread creator with a proposal for an updated OP? If the latter is true, and the creator refuses, can a higher-up supersede that refusal if the proposal is good enough to warrant it?
I was thinking about just contacting the OP about this, but I thought that this information might apply to another thread someday, so it couldn't hurt to ask here for future reference.
I would send him a PM and ask if he minds the OP being edited. If he doesn't respond, M me and I can edit in your changes. This kind of stuff is always done case by case.
Id like to ask the staff what is my standing in teamliquid as of late. Am I close to a warning, do I need to post better, in general, id like my self as a poster to be gauged if possible.
