OP already lists 1.62 million in prizes. So conservatively we could have close to 2 million for 2011.
This data will come in handy for analyzing where SC2 is heading. The key will be year over year growth. For example if next year we get something like 3 million in total prizes then that would signal good times ahead because it represents 50% growth over 2011.

wow mlg is stepping it up. i wonder if koreans will fly over for it.

GSL's prize pool is absolutely monstrous, even with the reduced grand prizes. It makes me wonder where GOM and Blizzard are getting all their money from.
Then again, I think it would be nice to see the money from our purchases of SC2 and WoW subscriptions go directly into the hands of our beloved players. It's funny to see that paying for a WoW subscription may indirectly help Fruitdealer and MVP live fruitful lives.

re-affirms being a sc2 pro gamer isn't a financially viable career choice.

You should add IEM V into the mix, though they haven't announced the finals / gamescom prizes afaik. Added. Once I get the final prizepool breakdown, I'll add it. Thanks.
May I suggest you add all the IEM season V prizes on as they dont work on a pure 1 year section and the EU/US championships that happened late last year happened are all part of their yearly season. Something quite unlike the other tournaments on your list; GSL is a 1 year thing, MLG season is all this year and both Dreamhack events are going to be in 2011 afaik etc.

Yes. This is correct. Fear not, your son shall not be won over by these degenerates.

Wow this is an incredible list. Great read.
Breakdown of the top 20 by country:
Korea - 12 players Sweden - 2 Finland - 1 Peru - 1 Ukraine - 1 USA - 1 Russia - 1 China - 1
Great to see so many players from around the world making money.

I have added them in. Thanks!

Dreamhack's SC2 tournament will have the largest price pool of the games played there, 4 more events outside of Dreamhack Summer and Dreamhack winter.

Blizzard/Actvision is a multi billion dollar company, they don't care about a few lousy millions lol.

damn...it's going to be hard to top what GSL is doing for the SC2 Community but I love the fact that MLG increases the prize pool. It's a step in the right direction.
I wonder what the project that incontrol was talking about in the sotg....i mean top players are moving to california

Thanks for the thread . It's always interesting to see what kind of money progamers can make in SC 2 . I think there should be more money thrown in team leagues though , there are too few team leauges compared to individual ones . Also MVP is gonna make a ton of money if other players don't step up .

I believe most if not all their money comes from sponsors like Sony Ericson. I also like your play on words in bold.

I think the prizepool of IEM are in euro, so they're actualy 1.35 times higher.
