I don't mind 1 banner on TL at all, but I can't stand 30 fucking second streams getting in the way of gameplay when I'm watching stuff.
Unfortunately, I will admit it, I will not watch 30 second upon 30 second turn into hours of my time watching completely irrelevant ads on ustream and stuff in exchange for the 1 banner.
Same here, I'd gladly whitelist TL if the stream ads were still blocked because those are way too intrusive.

I tried setting it up so that it blocks on pages from teamliquid.net/video/streams/ but that actually didn't do anything T.T
I love tl and will support them, but i wont support those ridiculous ads, and each time I want ot watch a stream I don't want to have to go to the direct link sometimes.
I'll check this thread in the morning to see if anyone can help out, otherwise sorry tl =\

after i saw the horse i did as it asked i heard the plea of the almighty horse mascot. Also at least the ads dont have sound and are in a very unimportant part of the page since no content is blocked by it

Nice use of the D&B horses to appeal to the user of not banning TL Ads. Don't block ads for websites that you frequent regularly, every website is entitled to cover their costs.

My visit still nets them pageviews, which earns them as much as they would anyways, because I never click ads. And as I use Chrome's Adblock, my browser simply hides the ad rather than preventing it from loading so if they recieve payment by ad impressions there's no change there.
In short, I'm not causing TL any more monetary loss than if I didn't run Adblock.

hahaah, after reading this thread, an ad for horses was shown
:D
as for the OP
dude, cmon, its one tiny ad that is non intrusive

I turned off adblock instantly, who can resist the horse?

Zlasher - why not just go directly to livestream/ustream/jtv/etc? I usually just do that and open a new tab for TL.
Also - Ad block off for TL

I read through your post history. You've got a lot out of TL from strat section - specifically people analysing your replays and providing a platform for you to voice your opinions on balance. This isn't a service one pays for - but every ad impression contributes to the server/maintenance costs, and our ability to build new features....The sense of entitlement in this OP is astounding. Instead of banning you, why don't you just leave.

And then I got this ad: This happens if you have Javascript disabled as our ad providers use Javascript to display ads. I use noscript as well, but if it blocks financial gain for TL then I would want to ensure ads display properly just for teamliquid.net. noscript doesn't have the option to unblock everything whilst browsing a site so that sucks. (or I suck at interpreting the option screen.)
Or are there view credits for people who script block the ads?

Unless you've never updated AdBlock, this isn't the case, if you're on version 2.0 or later then it stops it from downloading. It used to just hide them after the fact because Chrome didn't support a Javascript hook that Firefox did that let you stop resources from loading, but that got fixed a while ago.

Fuck that. Just ban him. Re-freaking-donkulus.

he was banned i just saw. Well, I guess sometimes ppl feel entitled to too much since they pay for internet access and dont understand websites arent run by the money the Service provider is given and rather that the websites need to pay for their server costs on their own.
also to anyone still reading this dont forget to add an exception to your antivirus program if it has a banner blocker I had to do it to mine so that I could support TL

I'd rather just go on TL, user stream, user stream, user stream, etc.
I love TL and would love to support their harmless ads since they do a great service to all of us by not throwing full page ads in our faces. Which is why I'm trying to find a middle ground to help these guys out, something that wont interrupt my daily routine

I usually just have Adblock activated, but after seeing the banner, I just had to disable it (just for TL of course). Asking to just have ads up to keep the page running isn't asking for much now, is it?
|
Can you clarify if TL gets income from Ad clicks or just views? I wouldn't mind clicking on a Ad once per day to support the site.
In fact I didn't even notice the thing until this post lol O.o

The only ads I could ever feel justified blocking are ones that disrupt the user experience by obscuring content. There are a lot of ads like that these days but it's not anywhere close to the majority of them.

I stare the at the horse for 5 minutes. Then I realize I don't have adblock.

Just had an argument with someone on IRC about this topic. his reasoning behind keeping his adblock on was because he thought his "impression" (something about cost per thousand impression or something he mentioned) was so significant to the overall ad revenue that it was ok that he had it blocked. In my opinion its this kind of self-entitled attitude that i thought wouldn't exist on TL. As though you're special enough to block ads while everyone else has them on to support your browsing of TL? It doesn't matter how often you post, but if you're getting value from this great website, and that site requests you turn off ad block, and you dont, you're a bit of a dick. Just had to get that off my chest
