I'm using this blog to vent a little bit. Today, I had a very bad day at work. The owner is what I would call a rage-a-holic. He needs anger management. That much is very clear. Unfortunately I have never felt like he has respected me at all even though I have worked at this restaurant for over 3 years and put in my fair share of overtime. For I while, I had no social life just because they needed shifts covered. I would classify the owner as a conservative, and not necessarily in the political sense. He is just old fashioned. His kids were the jocks in high school. Very cocky, and not very bright. I like to call them tools, because they are. That's how most kids are in my white, rich, suburban area. I, on the other hand, am quite different. I guess the easiest way to put it is I'm not mainstream. I do my own thing, I have my own style. The owner doesn't like this so even though I'm a great worker and well respected by every other manager, I get none from the owner. I haven't necessarily been very emotional stable for quite some time, but I'm working on it. Life is hard and I've had a lot of shitty things happen to me, but let's not make this a pity party. I deal and I learn and I move on with my life. Fast forward to today. I'm working, and there are some problems in the kitchen. So I'm trying to help make things run as smooth as possible. The owner doesn't see this or he's just an asshole. I'd go for both. He then screams at me, using profanity over something that I had nothing to do with. Unfortunately, given my mental state, what he said affected me way more than it should a normal person. This was my final straw. Not only did it shake me up pretty badly, but I realized I can't keep working for an evil man. I'm trying to focus on getting better mentally and that environment was not healthy. So I put in my two weeks and went home extremely angry, frustrated, anxious and depressed. I needed to take my mind off the whole situation so I decided to try and play a few games of SC2. I'm in silver (rank 28) slower working my way to diamond. After a few games, I was definitely feeling better. I played one more game. It was a TvP on delta. It was an epic long macro game with many battles, you know, the kind that make SC2 great. I ended up winning the game, which in itself made me feel great. Not only did I win, I got promoted to gold rank 9! That really lifted my spirits. I love that SC2 gives me such a sense of accomplishment. I absolutely love this game. I have a hard time even comprehending how complex of a game it really is so to be doing well really makes me feel great. I also love this community. It's the best online community I've ever found. Basically, I'm using SC2 as an escape when I need it and I think it's a great escape. It's made my shitty, shitty day just a little better, and that's really all I needed.

That's what Sc2 is about. And congrats for making gold! That owner seems like a piece of ****. lol but think about it this way; most ppl like that have like zero friends and have no fun. but u have sc2 to back u up, which makes u so much more cooler

when all is lost, we'll still have starcraft

SC really helps me forget about a lot of shitty things that happen to me, so it's definitely a good stress reliever. I don't want to get too personal here, but if you can, try to talk to someone about the way the owner is treating you, and maybe they can set things right?

If you are certainly leaving no matter what and you don't plan to use the place for references make sure you tell the guy he is a fucking dick before you leave.
Ideally he hits you and you then sue/imprison him. If not you at least you spoke the truth.
This is of course all assuming your post is 100% accurate.

It's a family restaurant and all but 2 managers are part of the family. Sad thing is, every manager sees him like I do. He's just one of those people that won't change. Sucks for him I guess. I'm not the only person he yells at. He just thinks that since he's the owner, everyone is beneath him. I really can't see him changing. His loss. I already feel better after putting my two week notice in. But yeah, I really fucking love starcraft. It's such an amazing game if you really think about it.

This is of course all assuming your post is 100% accurate. If anything, my post doesn't really fully describe how awful he is. He literally is the worst person I've ever met. I sort of have to use this place as a reference, since it's been my only job. I could say something to him, but I bet it won't affect him at all. If I did though, I'm so well respected with all the other managers that getting a reference wouldn't be a problem.

Yeah not sure how reasonable it is to hate your time at the workplace so passionately for so long. I had a similar situation and jumped ship. Lovin' my new job even if it pays less with fewer hours -- but as a student my options are pretty open. Obviously if these were career level jobs or I had dependents things would have to be different.

Haha so true. After a long day of school/work/whatever bullshit nothing beats playing/watching some Broodwar.
|
Yup Starcraft has that amazing effect on me too. So many hours I've been playing/watching it and I will never regret even a minute of it. It's just have been a piece of my life and part of who I am.
I'm glad more people share the feeling.

Half the guys I work with in construction act this way, 1 of my foremans has a REALLY bad temper, soo much so that sometimes the littlest thing can set him off into an epic rage. I've personally seen him stumble over a cord on the ground without falling, and then completely lose it, to the point where he is throwing 10foot ladders as far as he can. 1 time I was 25 feet up in a genie doing some work, and thinking I was safe since I was alot higher up than him, I called him on his temper, and said he is acting like a baby. At that moment he decided to hurl a shovel in my direction, luckily I ducked before it could hit me.....now that was some epic rage lol.
As a sidenote, and maybe as a bi tof advice. I always , always just laugh off other peoples rage moments, whether its at work, or even if someone is raging in a lineup or something. You shouldnt let it get to you, and by arguing back, or yelling back etc, it just plays into his mindset. If you honostly just look at a guy as hes freaking out, and remain calm and content, it usually leaves him wondering wtf just happened.

What a fuck.. sorry but people like that have a special place in hell reserved for them (religious beliefs aside) .. go find another job dude, where you will be valued and appreciated for your effort..
*Segway* .. SC2 values and appreciates you for your effort! Well done on the gold promo! Silver rank 38 to gold rank 9 would make anyone ecstatic! That is so awesome man! Good luck with your new job and hope things start going your way in the real world
edit: Just realised that first line may read to be about you - but it is about the owner! lol

Quoted for truth. (Epic username too!)
OP, that sucks about your boss, but keep your head up You don't need to work for someone who treats you with disrespect like that. Congratulations on your promotion into gold league, and congratulations on your quitting your job. You were too good for them anyway.

:D Thanks everyone! I'm feeling much better about the whole situation. This is why I love TL. And hey, perhaps I'll take some time and not work and try to become a progamer
|
Congrats on gold man, couldnt have come at a better time! Its too bad you live in america where if you so much as touch someone with a feather duster you get sued for all your money if you were in bangladesh man you could have beaten him senseless after quitting and got away with it :D

I hope you've got a lot of savings because gold -> progamer will take a while even for the most talented of gamers!

The way SC is spoken of and used here is exactly the same way an addiction of drugs is used by a person trying to escape. Food for thought.

I don't want to get too personal here, but I can assure you I'm actively trying to get better. I'm not running from my problems, I'm just pointing out how playing SC2 for a little bit really made me feel much better after a bad day. And at least it's SC2 and not drugs.

Ya, Starcraft is pretty much the shit. Winning an intense macro game and and getting promoted sounds like a bowl of win to me too. :0)
|
Wait till you get your first 10+ loss streak
Anyways, your boss sounds like an a-hole

2 out of 7 managers where I work are like this. They won't do shit because they think they are higher up, and they want you to do everything. Generally the people who act like this are old fucks who hate their job and couldn't make a career.
