So I was sitting around last night on the ptr server and it came to me.
I had a vision and I think I know how to make bnet look much better for Starcraft.
Now bear with me on this one, but my idea looks like this:
Basically, you click the Join Channel button or whatever you want to call it, maybe just "Channel" or something, and it gives you a list of default channels, as well as any ones that you can like manually type in on your own if you feel like it.
The Profile button would do like the same stuff as it does in bnet right now, so there's nothing really new about that.
The Create Game thing is like where you can load up a map file that you have in your hard drive. This way people can host maps for themselves and their friends for whatever they like. They could also use this thing to load replays in the same way that they would host a normal map. That way people can join, download the replay, and watch it with their friends.
The Join Game thing is kinda different though. Basically, when you click it, a list opens of all of the games that are currently waiting to start -- which are the same ones that other people created by way of the Create Game button that I mentioned just a paragraph up from here.
The Ladder ranking button works pretty much the same as the ladder ranking button, too, so there isn't really much difference there from how it currently is on bnet.
Then there's the quit button. I was kind of thinking that it works like the Menu button does right now. It doesn't really matter though, because the Escape button gives you the Menu thing anyway... so I figure that maybe just a Quit button would be perfectly fine.
So yeah what do you guys think? I realize its pretty different from what you're all used to, but I really think that I might be on to something here. Something about it just strikes me as fitting in well with the game.
edit - a really cool guy on page 2 made a composite picture using ms paint or photoshop or something (i dont really know but he did a GREAT job on it!). i thought it'd be a good idea to edit it in for the op so people could see his interpretation of what i was talking about: + Show Spoiler +
edit again! this guy on page 3 used photoshop to convert that picture i just showed you guys in the other edit above into starcraft 2 theme! it looks so nice! + Show Spoiler +

hahahaha, absolutely amazing idea. Such extreme innovation is welcomed on TL.net

Really? I mean it just came to me last night while I was playing Starcraft. I was afraid you guys wouldn't like it.

I see what you did there.

It's so simple, streamlined, and less cluttered, with a focus on community.

rofl, you do a good job at seeming like some one who doesn't know what they're talking about. In all honesty though, i think b.net 1 or w/e u wanna call it was pretty ideal. It focuses more on community communication and involvement, and didn't worry so much about fuckin cool looking buttons and swoosh noises. I think i would rather see functionality and a little less "wow-factor"

Hahaha well played OP, well played

I was afraid you guys would think that this is too iBnet or whatever because of how minimalistic it is compared to what's already there. I thought I'd get banned or something for being stupid and unoriginal.
I'm really happy though that you guys like it. I just wish that Blizzard could see it. They'd never listen to me though =(

Best idea I've ever heard.
lol 5/5

While this is a good idea, you seem not to have considered the technological requirements for such a system. I'm afraid we just aren't capable of something as advanced as "chat channels" at the moment. Perhaps in a few years and with proper research funding, we'll be able to actually implement this idea, but in the mean time, I think it's going to have to take a backseat to other crucial features such as Facebook integration.

I know you just came up with it, but the style kinda feels old, like 1998-ish.

whoa whoa whoa, one change at a time people

it just looks 1:1 like wc3 bnet, except that the big buttons at the left are small buttons in a thin vertical bar between chat area and ad banner.
/edit: oh lol, i get it :D sorry for not having started esports with wc3 lol :D

I seriously never played wc3. That's so weird, though. I wish I was old enough when they were making that game to apply to work for Blizzard back then. It sounds like I would've fit right in with those guys. Too bad I don't really know that much about programming =(
This kinda stuff is probably too hard for them to make anyway. Oh well. Just thought I'd share my idea with you guys d=(^_^)z

wow amazing.
This looks like a very very modern bnet.
