Lol how'd that spam bot get in here?
Yeah it really depends how you compare the two games when trying to find what points = what letter rank. For example, if SC2 used letter ranks, would the best players on the ladder be given an A+ (or Olympic title), or would they be graded based on how much skill they have compared directly 1 to 1 from BW, assuming that the Olympic level in BW is also the highest skill level in SC2? But ofc it seems most people are (and makes most sense to me) comparing directly 1 to 1.
Hehe I know a lot of people are sharing their numbers but this is what I'd think:
Bronze to Diamond 500 = E to D- Diamond 501 to 1500 = D Diamond 1501 to 2000 = D+ Diamond 2001 to 3000 = C- to B Diamond 3001+ = B+ + Show Spoiler +
Also taken into consideration that in SC1 you had to have much higher apm (part of skill) than you do in SC2.
Also nice edit OP, the part you said at the end of the original post about the pro gamers sounded like you were saying "so stfu noobs and listen to the pros" which was odd as it sharply contrasted what you were establishing earlier. Although, it still seems a bit unclear and has a little of the previous [unintended?] elitist tone in there.

so are you assuming that if the 2k-3k player went to play BW full time, they'd be easy winning until C- to B?
or is it the opposite where a C- to B player came over would be easy winning to 2k-3k?
b/c to be honest, if its SC2 --> BW, i believe it's barely even that, where a 2k-3k could maybe get to D+?, but if it's BW --> SC2, then way more than that, where a C could easily get 3k.

I haven't read all 57 pages of this thread, but are people making a distinction between knowing what to do and being able to do it? There may be a lot of players who have a fair amount of knowledge, but just suck at coordination/multitasking. Doesn't mean their opinions are wrong though, just because their (for example) multitasking is holding them back in platinum.

That has nothing to do with it...
what OP was talking about, was how the players in diamond aren't as good as you think they are
someone in Plat (not b/c they havnt been promoted to shitty MM) is in Plat for a reason - they don't do something right.
And when you don't do something right in SC2, that's like 5 things in SC1.
No one said opinions are wrong, just diamond =/= A+

But the game is deceptively simple as times, so merely knowing what to do without every havnig done it or having any sort of experience doesnt validate an opinion

YEAAAHHHHH!!!!
From games I watched and observed. It's still safe to say that even a cocky arrogant 2500 player will get his ass completely handed to him by the pro's.

Btw might want to mention the rankings i made up were for NA server
Certainly i know some 2000-2200 tosses that are imo, much better than minigun on NA
The C- cap is probably around 1800 on EU, and even lower on KOR

That's what we're asking. The only people that can possibly demonstrate superior game knowledge due to rank are already known names, so they don't need to preface posts by saying "I'm 2400 Z." Iccup had a better system for distinguishing skill differences so that people weren't confused into thinking that they're better than they are.
If you are 1900-2000, in all likelihood you are still not close to Kiwikaki or Nony's 2100~. You are still D+, they are still B-B+. So stop focusing on the numbers.
This seems harsh to many of you who probably realize it, but there's still a lot of people that think they're hot shit because they're 1800 #17 in Tau Epsilon Fuckslot and they post like it. God I love you. No homo.

This is not a very accurate guide at all. You mention Bronze league as being "knowing what some of the units do" Have you ever played in bronze league before? Im currently in bronze league atm(my connection dropped in a couple placement matches :0 ), and i know multiple build orders, all about the sc2 pro circuit, played through these build orders multiple times, beaten platinum players, and play with diamond and platinum players all the time. I also have a heavy background in SC:BW as well. The placement matches are breeding grounds for cheese. I could say right now 50% of people in platinum and diamond cheesed through their placement matches.
And trust me, i'm not flying through bronze league, like i would expect to. People 6pool, MMM, and i've seen fast expos that rival my diamond league friends.
In the end, the sc2 ladder system is not very accurate and I recommend to all to use the iccup system.
But I'm not saying all people in diamond and platinum suck. There are honestly very good players in diamond and platinum who actually earn their skill and show passion for the game.

You can't place into diamond. Your point stands that it's easy to get to diamond cheesing, though

yeah... um if u were at all knowledgeable in scII you would know the importance of scouting cheese and then rofl stomping them. But you instead choose to mask your incompetence and make posts like these to try and make yourself sound as if you know what you are talking about. Really all you are doing is just justifying why you suck by pointing fingers. It's kind of pathetic. it's not the cheeser's fault why you are in bronze, it's the lack of skill you have.

A month ago I was one of the top 30 Platinum players in the country (top 100 in the world)(according to SC2ranks.com). My goal was to make it into Diamond because I thought that if I made it there, I could consider myself really close to the caliber of pro players like HuK, Dimaga, Morrow, etc. I thought Diamond players were great players at the game, and knew 70%+ of how the game works, and how to manipulate everything in each game to their own advantage. I thought they were virtually flawless.
I was finally promoted to Diamond a few weeks ago with about 1500 points--half that of the current leaders on SC2ranks.com. It was at that point when it hit me that just because you're in Diamond doesn't mean you're good. In Platinum, I felt as if I was nearing the end of a long trek to climb the SC2 rankings. Now that I'm in Diamond, I realized that I'm not even 1/4 of the way there.
I used to read posts about how there are noticeable differences between, say, a 2200 Diamond player and a 2000 Diamond player, much akin to a mid-level Platinum player to a mid-to-high-level Gold player. I disregarded that as utter nonsense coming from a typical elitist Diamond player. How wrong I was.
I've been in Diamond for almost a month now. I got knocked down to close to 1200 points in the first week because I've been getting overwhelmed by the fierce competition. I've recently worked my way up to 1600 points (thanks to the bonus pool and me playing off an on for three weeks because of work). As I work my way higher and higher, it's becoming more and more obvious how similar different levels of the Diamond league are to the ladder in general. Indeed, it seems as if Diamond has its own Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond leagues.
Anyway, no point was intended with this post. I just wanted to give my opinion of the Diamond League an dhow it changed drastically once I entered it. I figure it could help shed some light to those who are not yet within this league and aspire one day to be.

I don't understand why people are comparing Sc2 to BW. Where you're placed relative to other players is completely different between each game. In BW, dedication and the development of skill how you climbed the iccup ranks. In Sc2 skill is a necessity, however the game rewards creativity and originality. Countless times we've seen in the three seasons of GSL lesser skilled players winning because they outsmart their opponents. Your division and points can be very deceiving... Just play the game

I think TL should do what the Smash Bros community did with smashboards.com. Have a "back room" where only pro's or very high level players were given permission to post. All the threads could be read by any visitor to the site, but posting was restricted to elite members of the community. This got a lot of pros to discuss the game on a high level without a ton of random noobs cluttering the forums. TL should give it a shot, could be really cool

as long as the system works this way you will never be able to make a good classification in this game - the elite players are those who go far in tourney
ladder honestly doesnt mean much as there are players on 2k with 500 games or 1500, also the influence of the hidden mmr on the ladder leads to flawed results since you get "rewarded" to beat higher ranked players with less points and the probability to loose more games there is much higher and will also result in larger losses of points

All I know is, I'm in Diamond and I am terrible. I just got promoted about a week ago, and I still get supply blocked, my micro is non-existent, I still lose to cheese sometimes, and my APM is super low.
I got there by playing one build exclusively since silver (MMM), so I know it inside and out. I worked on my mechanics to where I'm spending my money on the right things and react appropriately when I scout.
Since being promoted, I've lost quite a few games. Lots to improve on .
