Everyone I know has been told to stay at home by someone with police contacts or by police directly, violence has been ultra high since sunday, gangsters organized and started doing terrorist attacks against the city directly, today they said they would attack the wealthy area.
Police on the other hand, told everyone to stay home today (unofficially) because they are gonna kill everyone (hopefully the badguys only)
I cant leave my house and everyone is scared shitless to be on the street.
Colleges, schools jobs everything is closing and everyone is expecting the police to do an ultimate showdown.
all cops have been called to the street and BOPE is operating nonstop for the last 80 hours in the most dangerous favela ever, the Complexo do Alemao

That does sound quite frightening. Is there any event that prompted the gangsters to start this riotous behavior, or did they suddenly just feel like it?

Mostly, the fact that BOPE has been sistematically kicking the badguys out of the favelas and placing pacifying police stations there.

Jesus Christ >_< Sometimes you get used to living in a nice, comfortable, safe setting. I can't even relate to what's going on when I read it. Simply put it doesn't seem like real life.
I really hope you and your loved ones are able to stay safe through this.

I hear BOPE is quite tough, and they probably need to be. I saw the documentary "Manda Bala" about kidnapping there, some of those gangs are quite ruthless. It made me wonder why they selected the city for the next Summer Olympics actually.
