Oh wow I had no idea it was steam exclusive. So considering ids can be changed in steam, I guess names won't be unique?

56 degrees is actually really lucky for a november game launch. just on saturday it was below freezing by midnight in atlanta.
or are you one of those people from san diego or something and it never gets that cold usually?

Alright, got the game fired up. Here's my first impression:
Console access is fucking great. I got the game looking and feeling like CoD4 (or as close as I possibly could). But the game performs like absolute garbage and my PC should slap this game around like there's no tomorrow, especially on the absurdly low settings I run at (8 physical cores @ 2.4ghz, 16gb ram, gtx 280, nuff said). I couldn't play through an entire round before being split from the game and when I could get into a fight often the game would hitch, I'd teleport and next thing I know I'm flashed and I'm dying. Pretty disappointing to see the midnight launch suck so hard, but I've come to expect it from developers that aren't Blizzard. As far as I'm concerned, the multiplayer is downright unplayable until a patch is deployed or a fix is found (I made a quick google search to no avail).
That said, let's focus on the mechanics and features of the game (or what little I got to experience when I was playing with 40fps and not teleporting). The stock assault class starts with Last Stand. That is fucking garbage and whoever came up with that idea seriously needs to be crucified. Every second guy I manage to take down (which takes quite a bit of work, I'll get to that in a second) falls into last stand and because my weakass gun couldn't kill him before pouring my clip into him and his buddy i'm now forced to try and fall back and reload without the game lagging and getting capped around a corner by a pistol. I stuck to the M16 (assault) and MP5 (specops) classes, and boy does this game ever need stopping power. The M16 simply will not kill someone in a single burst, but the kick is easy to control. The MP5's kick is significantly bigger than it was in MW2 or CoD4 and I had a pretty hard time controlling it (I can't tell if it's because I just started playing, or because I'm playing at 40fps and can't aim and am hitching my pants off every 2 seconds, I suspect a bit of both) and thus I'd find myself shooting 15 shots at someone before they'd finally go down. This is about on par with what I'd expect from some starter guns. Grenades are well-rounded, the arc isn't obscene but you can still lob it over a wall (but not across the map, thank god) and you need to be reasonably close to the blast radius to actually die. The only other grenade I encountered were flashbangs which again seemed pretty balanced. You needed to be pretty close for them to obliterate your vision so hard there is no way you're going to stay alive. The only killstreaks I saw were spy plane and counter spy plane. Someone called a Valkyrie but I never actually saw it, so I definitely can't say much in that regard. The maps that I played seemed to have a slightly high number of angles to work around (like in MW2, a lot of the maps were very hard to move around in because all of the paths to move could be crossfired by half a dozen windows, corners and ledges). This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just changes the pace of the game (and for a player like me who wants to move around and kill people a lot rather than camp, it just makes the skill ceiling higher). All of the TDM games I played (I tried to play through about five) I found myself respawning in the same area every time I died which leads me to believe the spawn system is a little borked, although I never got spawnkilled. Some other wierd quirks are that when ironsighted, I could still hear my own footsteps so I assume that my enemies can as well. For those of you who played specops classes in CoD4 and MW2, you'll understand that this completely changes the game (right up until you get ghost or ninja anyway). I didn't unlock anything because I couldn't sit through a single roun so I can't go into much depth.
All in all, until the game gets patch or a fix is found I give the multiplayer a 1/10. Completely unplayable, 40fps when I should be able to push 120 is ridiculous on top of the fact that hitching, and five seconds later you're in a wall and two seconds after you're knifed leads to a pretty shitty game experience. Once the game is patched up and playable, I can easily see this game being at the very least a 7/10, maybe even more once I can play with some of the other guns and unlocks. The game seems to be mechanically sound when it works and I look forward to when I can actually give the game a real chance.
Edit: example of lag issues

Oh boy Im at work atm and saw the game launched when I left home, sucks! Now i have to wait till night to get home and actually play it

I was going to buy this...
But my mate went to the midnight launch here in Aus and was telling me earlier this morning that he could barely get it running because of shit optimisation (his comp should smash the game fwiw)...
Now I read people here having similar issues.
Not buying it until they patch it and I hear that the PC issues are fixed. I have a PS3... but FUCK FPS on consoles lol.
|
I guess I'll also wait until the pc version is patched up. I'm tempted to get it for my ps3...but no. Must resist.

Get it for the PC unless you have friends that has Black Ops on the PS3 and don't mind fps on consoles lol.

I havent played COD for awhile (since COD4). I wonder what version is better to get the PC or PS3. I usually only play SC2 on my PC. Most others games I play PS3 version. Advice is needed here guys. Thanks One more question for people with the game already: Are the alot of Vietcong shooting in the game? Being Vietnamese, I dont want to play a game that I go out and shoot my country man all day :D

In my steam it says the multiplayer isnt available for another 7 hours, its already 12:30 AM for me, shouldn't it have been playable at midnight(still preloading)?

i dont have any lag issues, and my PC is ~3 years old. also spawnkilling is less likely, don't know where you have seen it. even on Nuketown, a very small map you have fences to defend your spawn.
oh, and are there any commands to increase the FOV or only through the settings?

And the last page and a half is why I generally get games on consoles. PCs friggin' hate me. Has pretty much nothing to do with control scheme or any of that bs. Just that if I buy a game for a console I know it's gonna work (though if it doesn't, the devs really screwed up and it likely won't get patched since it IS a console, so I can walk away from the game pretty quickly). I generally have trouble with computers between trying to tweak settings, random crashes/things dying and other junk. There are just so many variations on computer setups that devs will miss stuff from time to time.
While there can be an argument made for keyboard/mouse vs. controller, if I'm on console everyone else is using a controller so it's an even playing field in that respect so no biggie.
Was gonna go to the midnight release (which would've felt like a special kind of nerdy), but ended up hanging out with some friends and played Settlers. Guess I'll roll over there in the morning. Get to watch some MBC vs. Hite in the meantime until I'm tired enough to sleep.

Game is fun and really feels like it went back to the Cod4/Cod2 roots...
But like said before, the game has massive memory leaks, and lags even the best of machines.
