Do you guys think it is out of hand?
I have so many bonus pool points whether it be 1s,2s,3s,4s, or just with some random at friends.... I dont think I could go through all my bonus pool points before the ladder resets, and I play a ton(2000 league games).
I got a friend that only plays his solo games when he has a bonus pool because when he wins the extra points make up for his loses and he doesnt lose rating. He is probably 200-300 higher rating then he should be...then complains when he loses 10 games in a row cause he is playing better people cause he is cheating the system
Whats the reasoning behind bpp's anyways? I hope blizzard plans to change this..what do you guys think?

Hello,
Why do you call it "cheating the system?"

Inflation
Getting bonus pool points makes bad players feel like they're improving by improving their score artificially. Bonus pool means nothing and does nothing other than soothe bad players' egos and make it impossible for good players to create a benchmark. There will be no "A" bracket for points, because every day that bracket will be artificially inflated by 10 points.

You're 100% wrong about why your friend plays higher ranked people. Matchmaking doesn't use your ELO ranking, which is all the Bonus Pool changes, so there's no reason that would have any effect. He is not cheating the system, just wasting his time.

I think they put them in so that people at the bottom of their division don't have a net negative point total.
Moving to SC2 forum.

Your points do not effect you who are matched vs, him "cheating the system" is not matching him vs better players.

Moving to............ sc2 I guess.
edit: no need :3
BTW I think your example OP with your friend is wrong... who he beats or loses to determines the level of his opponents, regardless of how much he abuses the bonus pool to get his public rating higher.

i see.. i still dont like the fact that i have so amny bonus points..quite annoying to me... its too fast paced imo.

I always presumed the bonus pool was just a means to give casual gamers get more of an incentive to play the game. They can do stuff other than ladder matches and not feel they're completely unable keep up with people who play 24 hours a day (intentional hyperbole). Rather like the rested experience system in World of Warcraft.
You still need to actually win the games to improve, you still improve slower than people who don’t rely on the bonus pool and apart from allowing people more space to do other things, or play other aspects of the game whilst still able to climb divisions reasonably efficiently if they're able to win. It doesn't really provide any benefit at all, so I'm not really sure it could ever get of of hand.

it's to help people who have started later/don't play as much if you just bought SC2, you would be so far behind in points, there would be no way you could get to 2000 diamond

Without bonus pool, noone would have 2000 diamond right now. Blizzard said we need bonus pool for something, but it's all about making us to play more ladder. If you get 1k points you couldn't be proud of this for a month, because a week later, your 1k means nothnig, so you need to play more. We doesn't need bonus points. Blizzard needs them to keep us with them all the time.

I agree. The bonus pool could be slowed down a bit. 12 points per day is a lot, particularly if you're not a very active player. Bonus Pool is essentially global ladder decay, just like they had in War3. I was going to say something about how War3 didn't require you to play as many games, but looks like I was mistaken: http://classic.battle.net/war3/ladder/war3-ladder-info-charts.aspx?Gateway=Lordaeron#chart1 In SC2 in order to outpace your bonus pool you need to win on average 1 game per day, but in War3 you had to play as many as 19 games per week or more depending on how high up the ladder you were. That's extremely punishing.
I think something like 6 points per day or something like that would be better, or maybe less, because if you create a new team or account right now you have to play roughly 100 games to consume your bonus pool.

12 points per day = 2 games per day on average(one loss and one win against an equally ranked opponent). The bigger problem with bonus pool is that it piles up over time. It would've been much better if you start out with those points and your bonus pool generates after that or if there's a limit to initial bonus pool(for example 120 points, which would be 20 games on average) and the rest of the points are awarded right away. This way at least it won't be a huge burden to use up the already generated bonus pool.

What a bullshit you are talking about... the Bonuspool is just stupid... i wish i could use it at all. I would have to play like 20 Games a day to use it all. I dont have the time to play that much. SO y Bonuspool keeps growing and growing...
Im in Diamond and played higher ranked Diamonds, and had no Problems so far. So i suck because the System gives me endless Bonuspool points which i never can use at all? Man you gotta have to learn what Logic is imho. Damn if i dont play some days i fall down the rankings because im not playing at all, not because im losing, because i dont play. The System favours mass gamers much more than ppl with not so much time.

Perhaps you should learn what logic is. The guy you quoted pretty much said the exact same thing you did, except 10x more coherently. He is saying that everybody's scores get inflated artificially by the bonus pool, and so the standard 'great' or 'good' or 'average' rating is constantly going up, making it impossible to set a benchmark. Please don't pretend to be knowledgeable if you really have no idea what you're talking about.

It doesn't really matter to me. All it will cause is an inflation of points overtime, and as long as we become aware what a good point total is for that current time, it shouldn't effect too much really.
|
Currently, the bonus pool is the thing that bothers me the most about this game. It makes it impossible for me to tell if I am improving or not. Every time I play a series of games my points increases. It is so annoying to not hit a peak and then be able to see if I can rise past that peak.
|
I like the bonus point idea, and it'll work well as long as the ladder is reset at least once every 6 months (so that point inflation doesn't reach ridiculous values). It's a nice incentive for casual gamers or all the folk that lack the time or motivation to play every day (or every second day) to do some ladder games, and it's a welcome source of additional points for 24/7 gamers.
What I don't get is people complaining about how there's no set standard to measure player skill. I mean, ladder ratings aren't invented anew every week. Two months ago, ~1000 pt players were skilled, these days it's the ~2000 pt players and in january it'll be the ~3000 pt crowd. It's pretty easy to do the math, your own 1on1 division and a couple of pro gamer profiles should be enough to judge skill accordingly.
|
I can (and do) pretty much coast on bonus points because of how many you get. I would have to drop the vast majority of the games in a day to break even, otherwise my points go up with no real link to how well I'm doing.
That is not really a good thing.

No it's the opposite, it favors people who aren't mass gaming. How in the world you can't use all your bonus points is literally beyond me, unless you have a million groupings for 2's, 3's, etc. Because for 1v1 you need to play only a few games each day as long as you can actually win.
