Sup TL, I'm currently trying to figure out which new car to buy. I think I have it narrowed down to two:
Volkswagen GTI
Honda Fit
Let's compare them:
Perforamce GTI is definitely much better here. Bigger engine, more HP, and really good handling. The suspension is stiffer than the Fit, not necessarily a bad thing. The Fit is still fun to drive, just not quite as fast/sporty.
Interior They have about the same interior space. The GTI has nicer looking seats, steering wheel etc. It's also really quiet inside. It has a few more features, but not all of them I care about that much - stability control, heated seats to name two.
Cost The Fit is probably about $7k cheaper, so a decent price difference. GTI gets decent MPG, high 20's, but the Fit gets better, low 30's. Also the GTI take premium gas only. (not positive)
Other Stuff The GTI looks nicer from the outside I think, but not so big of a deal. Honda also has a much better reputation for reliability than VW, but I think they have gotten a little bit better.
The GTI is obviously a nicer car, but I should still be able to afford it. I'm just not sure if it's worth it. So taking into account cost, which do you think is the better choice?

My brother bought a Honda Fit last year and loves it. I've been in it a couple times and it's a lot more spacious than it seems from the outside. Very comfortable interior too. I haven't had the chance to drive it so can't say anything there. It works really well for them (brother and his wife) getting around the city, and it's fine on highways too.

Golf GTi, hands down. VW makes great cars, and the GTi is one of their best cars. I would highly recommend them. My dad still has his old Golf GTI from the 90's, and its still a great car.
You know you want one.
Off topic- Why didn't you consider and Impreza? I've heard great things about those too.

Do you really have to ask TL about which car to buy? :D Next time post pics and ask about which one you should marry :p Fit looks way better, but Volkswagen is just volkswagen. Try riding both and see how they feel.

GTI is by far better. I had an older model and now drive a new civic. The GTI is amazingly fast, and looks great. And if that doesnt sway you, its a VW.

I say get the Fit, it's cheaper, looks about the same from the exterior (in my opinion), and its 7k less AND has higher gas milage. If you actually have the extra 7k and wouldn't be going into debt, invest it and cash it in in like 5 years and get a car that is more expensive. Yay being frugal!

WHICH CARL?
|
Oh I have tried them both, and I'm not going to take the poll results to the dealer. Just looking for some more opinions.
I considered the Impreza, but which one do you mean? I'd prefer a hatchback to a sedan or wagon. The Impreza WRX seems a bit over the top for me, though looking at the price now, it's less than I remembered.

Seems kind of random to be deciding between two cars when one probably costs twice as much as the other
|
I've heard great things about the Fit, but never have driven or ridden in one. My friend has a GTI and he loves it, but he has a lot of electrical problems with it. I myself have a Kia Spectra 5sx, and chose it over a GTI when I bought it, have you checked that out?

GTI all the way, much nicer car and as long as the cost isn't a problem then just go with what's better. You recognize that the GTI is better so I'm not sure what's holding you back. VW reliability isn't as much of an issue as it was in the 90s so you should be fine.

if you want sporty, mazdaspeed3? only issue is they are manual only... and i know manual's arent very popular over there in the US...
|
Well i'm actually planning on getting a manual. I test drove the regular mazda3, didn't think it was better than the Fit, other than being a bit faster. Kinda bad MPG also.
|
Neither, look into the Ford Fiesta 3 door hatch version
GTI over the Fit though, if you're going to go Honda I suggest the Civic, if you want a hatch version look to see if the old Honda Civic Type-R is still around (haven't been following those in a while).
|
manuals arent popular in the US bc ppl enjoy not having to pay any attention to their driving so they can text or in some cases read books...there are truly retarded drivers out there.......go with the Honda Fit because its bound to be cheaper in the long run and its still a very nice car ^.^ however i wouldnt get it, but thats just me wanting a lancer evo/subaru wrx sti ^.^

Kinda bad MPG also. if MPG is that big of a deal, then dont get the mazdaspeed... i get ~32 MPG on the highway, and ~20 in city driving i own one (well, the australia equivelant the 3MPS) and find cars like the GTI rather bland and boring in return and trust me, there is a huge difference between the standard car and the mazdaspeed 3
depends if you're after an eco hatch or a sporty run around, cause to me (not knowing much about the honda fit...) it looks like you're looking at 2 different types of cars here

GTI is a much nicer car that the 3, and they come in stick as well. So if those are the options go with GTI still.
If money is not a problem then get the GTI it's a much nicer car.

Definitely not the base model, the impreza gets really good with the WRX and then the STi isn't that good for the cost, but I don't know how much you want to spend so I don't know which one is the one for you.

gti is ridiculously good car it just costs way too much for the segment its in.

By cost, the fit is looking to be the overall better option. Unless you want/need the additional performance of the GTI, I would want the fit
