after reading todays patch notes and seeing mostly map editor changes/bugfixes - i cant get the idea out of my head that the BIG plan behind this is to pave the way for selling custom maps. i know the idea sounds strange at first. try to imagine it like apples app store for bnet/sc2. apple has great success with it. every app sold is extra money without donig much at all. that concept imho would fit kotics personal stlye and business development just perfect. the potential customer base already exists (bnet concept-always conneted-one account for all games) and even i have to admit that id probably pay 1-2$ for some great tower defense map! whats your opinion on that topic? is it wild imagenation? or could this really be the future current bnet development heads to? edit: just realized i focused hard on sc and bnet2.0 but the overall scheme applies well to the whole activision gaming franchise

Dude, I would NEVER pay any amount of money just to download a map. I'd rather play ums on SC1 then. Also, if Blizzard makes a monthly subscription fee, that would be the day i quit playing starcraft 2. And please don't give him the ideas to do any of this. Blizzard checks this site quite frequently. I really don't want SC2 to become like Warcraft, that would really be unfair. And apps vs custom maps are completely different imo. And nowadays, most people get free apps and free music using torrents and other programs like that. And i really had a pretty tough decision already deciding to buy this games because of no lan, chat channels, bad b.net 2 and etc. A fee for custom maps and or a monthly subscription fee would make the decision a no-brainer

maybe more about new folsom? but only under certain conditions. -) purchases would have to be bound to my account so i can re-download them -) easy to pay methods without CC (paypal or account debit) -) purchases remaining in the account even if the account gets suspeneded (since wrong suspends are actually pretty common) -) additional value to those mini-campaigns (new portraits, new decals, new skins, ect.) let's see what bobby has in store. btw: no way i am getting black ops. not enough value in there for me, even if i enjoyed mw2 splayer (and only that).

really? monthly subscriptions for CoD: BO and shooting prices up? I'm pretty sure this won't fly with the Xbox people who already pay enough for Xbox Live

So yea, most of us don't like it, some of us don't like it but will still buy the stuff and in 5 more years everyone will have forgotten about stuff that used to be free and voila a whole new market has arrived for developers that don't finish their game (or do and cut stuff out later) only to sell the game in parts again later on.

Eventually this will happen. Blizzard mentioned in the past that they want to implement a way map makers can sell their map through battle.net. They saw how much of a success map making was with WC3 and people always mentioned how the DotA developer never got paid a cent despite his work. I also believe it will work exactly like the apple store. We'll probably see free maps, lite versions and full version (which you have to pay for) available for download. And Blizzard will most likely take a %1-%x cut.

The only thing I didnt like from that link in the OP is that he wants to increase the cost of games.
