Right now top players are scared to post because of flamers and dumbasses. We just need a filter to get rid of most of the crap posts. Even a very lenient filter (e.g. only 800+ diamond) would cut down the amount of bad posting by orders of magnitude. Keep in mind that player skill is like a pyramid, so the further up you go there are, percentage-wise, exponentially fewer people in the pool of eligible posters. You knock off 95% of bnet just by saying 'diamond only'. That's 95% less bad posts (if we assume a linear correspondence, which obviously isn't the case but just roll with it). And i suck at protoss and terran The OP was written 3 weeks ago, because of bonus pool point inflation, it is known that 1200 3 weeks ago is a lot better than 1200 today. There are other threads or discussions that go over this in more detail, but roughly you get 12 bonus points a day, napkin mental math from the 25th of August to the 14th of September, lets say 250 points. With that being said 1200 during the OP would be 1450 Today, etc etc. Your 1200 today is like a 950 from the OP, which properly categorizes you as C- :p

i am a complete newby to strategy games, played my practice game , read a bit about the game and was confused by being placed in platinum. i thought, ok well i got overrated and will be demoted soon cuz i dont know a shit about this game. wrong, i got PROmoted to diamond, learnt some basics and just meet all those idiots OP described, playing their skillfull diamond games and still losing to speedling rush or just fast muta. currently i am at 900 diamond, ranked #3 which is ridiculous since i am still playing my one and only standard BO, 90% going speedling rush and 90% going muta afterwards if it doesnt work but it wins me ~70% of the games. all in all i was quite disappointed about the low average skill level in diamond (as all leagues). so many people in 700+ diamond who dont even consider blocking their ramp and flaming cheese if i just run in or people who waste their army cuz i attack them while they move-clicked them over the map so they dont fight back. situation is, if i want to learn more about the game, i have to watch replays. playing does not really help because strong opponent players are too rare.. expecting changes of the ladder system.. (my sig came from a diamond ladder game as well...)

I don't know, maybe you'd rather have wonderful theorycrafting sessions with random SC2 players, but I'd rather have mine with Qxc. Of course, the suggestion Qxc proposed is not going to happen because the administrators actually do care about how TL is perceived by the general public. Respect does not exist on the internet, sorry. If TL wants to retain worthwhile forum topics and discussions as it's user base grows, admins need to either create an invite-to-post forum section or implement a more effective way to differentiate good posters from the battle.net overflow; post count and "I'm xxxx diamond bro, trust me" is not cutting it. I'm surprised this hasn't happened yet, The SC2 strategy section has almost become unreadable for me. Good questions/answers/arguments still exist, but now I'm spending more time skimming for them than actually reading them.

A good solution to getting good information out to those who seek it is a Blog where certain players are "invited" to do a small write up about some stratagy, or some deeper meta. Readers can then get "more correct" information as the game is still changing and evolving an will continue to for the next few years. Psy

The corollary to bad players getting to mid-high diamond is that the ladders aren't really all that different from the bottom to the top. If half the people on the ladder are playing the same cheese, then placement on the ladder is quite random. Silver and Gold is really where players who can't do anything but a single all-in build order belong, since that's a pretty low level of play (and it's quite possibly where I belong too).

I was placed in the Silver league after going 2-3 in my placement games. I haven't made it up to diamond yet, but even down in Silver you see a lot of the same stuff that you see in diamond replays. The two gate rush might be a tiny bit choppy, but it's a difference of a couple of seconds. Mmmmm no... it probably takes like four minutes at most of watching a game to be able to tell that a player is under platinum. It's that obvious.

Yesterday i finally started laddering, have been doing 2v2/3v3/4v4 only up until yesterday, got put in platinum cause i lost to a cheese in placement matches. But after i got promoted to diamond, my next 4 matches were all against Protoss cheesing. All of em were 800+ rating, and they all admitted that all they do is cheese cause they get wins from it. IDK was kinda depressing thinking "how can i get better if i only get to play against cheese strats... the games last less than 10 minutes every game, either i counter it or i lose.." I play Zerg... so i dont really have 'cheese strats' cause the only real Z cheese would be the massive failure 6pool or something... IDK just food for thought, i think people put to much emphasis on rating. i agree with most that the skill range in diamond is just HUGE. I think 1500 is about where the split is. just my 2cents.

I'm glad there is someone else also realizing that Diamond if it is to mean 'for good players' is a total joke, it actually has from average to above. And the way you can reach Diamond with just 16 games is ridiculous. And just EU has 23,242 , are all really Diamond skill? Maybe yes - if Diamond only means 'non-noob' though tell me how do I see people with 0 Points in Diamond

If you get in Diamond so quickly, you lose some of your motivation to do further, unless losing places. Previous Bnet you actually had to play a lot of games to reach High Levels. In case Diamond means that, according to sc2ranks.com just on EU: 23,242 are in Diamond (some with 0 points). I highly doubt all there mean 'good' and even if there may be many good players, getting into the 'best league' like that is so wrong. No new, "super league" (beyond the possibility a pro, invite-only league) is needed. Your point total in diamond says a lot about how good you really are. If you're sitting around 700 in diamond, then you can rest assured that you're not that good. If you're at like 1500+, then you'll know that you are very good. There's plenty of reason to keep playing and laddering.

Bronze: I play B.net custom games. I can give the computer a good fight. Silver: I play Fastest Possible Map Ever. Gold: I play BGH and some low maps. I know who Boxer is. Platinum: Computer (E) rank Low diamond (~300): D- Mid diamond (~600): D High diamond (~900): D+ through C Top diamond (~1200): B This isn't true at all. I got to D+ in SC BW but I don't think I could make it into Diamond at all in SC2. I'd probably be a gold player at best.
