I don't think gold or platinum players never have anything good to say (but i might be biased there), sometimes they have good ideas or stumble by error on something that the top-players in their perfection miss.

Now just because youre top 20% doesnt mean youre hot stuff but it doesnt mean youre completely useless. Meaning, its great if you want to post whats working for you or what you need help on. Nor do i see much wrong with posting your points it lets you take posts with a grain of salt. For example, lets say I make a post and say im 900pt diamond having trouble with my tvp when i open 2 rax expand. At some point inevitable some one will post with a silver, gold, or plat account and tell me to three rax my way to victory because you know its OP. I know right off the bat I can go ahead and ignore that post because hes in gold. Where as if some one say theyre 1100 diamond and tells me that hes had great luck placing a reactor on the second rax so I have enough to fight off more void rays I know I can accept that suggestion and its worth trying. Why is it worth trying? Because hes OMG 1100 points? Nope hes still not that amazing but lets be honest I would love for TLO to come grace me in every post I have for help but its not going to happen. Infact while many, many of the great current sc2 players come to TL they do not post in every I need help thread about strategy. So at some point we have to help ourselves. Why did I not listen to our happy gold player? Because the things at gold dont necessarily work at diamond. At gold plat or even a lot of diamond 3rax is a pretty powerful build, it does however stop being as awesome in diamond because you can no long count on people not building a sentry to stop your timing attack or for that matter actually macroing 100%. Do gold/plat people sometimes have great insightful post, yes. However don't be insulted if people dont respect your opinion based on your ranking. Its about creditability, and despite how little creditability a 800pt diamond has its still much higher than the average goldie.

Kudos Oh and I agree with the above, I think your equivalency chart may even be fudged a little higher. I find my D/D+ friends around 600-900 Diamond usually.

I'm in plat. I know that if I laddered more, I could get bumped to diamond. Even when I was in gold, it was constantly putting me up against plat/diamond players and I won almost every game (when it promoted me, I was 20-4). But at no point have I ever been delusional enough to think I'm a great player and that I really "knew" the game. My only trick was putting a lot of effort into macro and expanding when I knew it was safe to do so. There's such a huge difference between someone who keeps up on all of the newest and bestest builds posted on the internet and ladders enough to earn a lot of points and an actual top level player. My biggest hope is that some day people will realize that being a diamond player with a lot of points doesn't mean as much as they want it to mean.

The OP was one of the best I've read on here for quite a while. I'm of the opinion that the game is far too early in it's life cycle to make any judgements about balance or even the future of the gameplay. There are far too many people who think they are good crying about imba when they really should be just trying to understand and play the game better.

Either 8 pool, 10 gate, or 3 rax. nothing else. First push, hold off, get expo up. wait 5 mins, win. almost every game for me goes like that. (unless i lose to the push) Will work hard to get to diamond. =)

This is just one of the reasons I tend to avoid the SC2 forums altogether now like so many others. No one likes a cesspool of shit. * I see a lot of you continuing to miss the point. Perhaps you should read what is said after the blue. The thing is there are some diamond players who think they are really good when they aren't. They know too few builds and don't respond well when another player who understands the game knows how to counter it with ease. I repeat. There are two types of diamond players: 1. Knows a few builds, tries to win in the early game, don't have a backup plan in case plan A fails, suspect micro/macro and they don't respond well when countered. 2. Has tested several builds/studies the game, learns various counters to all kinds of strats with more frequent scouting (hard to catch off guard), more responsive and intuition (if player x does A, player y does B/C/D). These players place well in tournaments. The SC2 forums are flooded with type A who think they are all-knowing when they are spreading false information more times than not and many forum veterans are turned off by it, hence they don't post and will continue to not post.
