I agree with this post, Im 1000 Diamond and guess what it means jack because I realize how skillful those pro's are compared to me...I watch my own replays and see so many mistakes and its all due to inexperience and lack of understandment of the game. I realize this which is why I always try to get better by watching how the pros do it and most importantly, why. Just because your high in diamond doesnt really mean a lot. IMO its too easy to get into diamond atm waaaay to easy.

Although I wouldn't be able to participate in them, I like the idea of invite only discussions. Of course they would have to post the discussion up afterwards. I don't think its as bad as BNETs community (did you read the comments on the patch notes?). Theorycrafting isn't that bad as it leads to some good ideas. I'm platinum zerg by the way.

I don't understand the point, really. Is TL.net meant to be a resource for top players? If so then there should be a "top players only" forum that mere diamond level players can't post in. Is that going to attract a bunch of top players to come and post, or will they more likely just talk amongst themselves on Bnet, ventrilo, etc any way?

Honestly I've been following and posting here since the start of SC2 beta, and I've never really seen any stunning insight from top players posted here. I've seen top players come and complain about certain features or certain imbalances, but rarely see any thing posted that would actually help even a bronze level player, much less another top player, improve at the game. Oh there's no doubt that these e-celebrities are in a class of their own, but that doesn't automatically result in great discussion or useful knowledge. In fact it almost seems like common sense that the best players are the ones who are spending the least amount of time on a forum when they could instead be playing more games.

If you want to give special props and status to top players, great, they've earned it. Ask them to write editorials or articles or give them their own "pro players onry" area. But don't act like the discussion from Diamond level players is some how bringing TL.net down. Most players are not even diamond level, and most diamond level players probably can learn the most from other mediocre players, simply because top players aren't really saying too much that's useful.

Its meant to be a resource for players in general, not for people that have no idea what theyre talking about and post acting like they do. Pretty much what hes saying.

My main thing is that it seems incredibly hard to get demoted. I saw a platinum player with 5 wins in 29 games. Theoretically as people improve it would be harder to get into diamond. Assuming the above problem is fixed.

This got far less attention then it deserved. I actually agreed with OP til I read this.

This is exactly what was said from the beginning of the beta. Your average diamond player wouldn't last a minute in iccup. I was D in iccup and im 600 diamond atm.

That being said, theres really no good way to tell how good you are. I do not like the ranking system they have right now, and unless you are a very well known player, its hard to judge your skill. Moreover, using what you were in iccup just doesnt cut it, since its a completely new game. I am beating my friends who outranked me in iccup.

I think most of the problem stems from not having real rankings, this is exactly how Blizzard wants everyone to feel. They want people to feel like they are super awesome and highly ranked. It has the unfortunate side effect of people becoming full of themselves and giving bad advice because even though they think they are high end players it isn't the case.

I really hope the current ladder system changes.

fully agree on the first part, not so much on the second (changing the ladder). i want to continue to think that im super awsome

I agree with the OP. Myself a 600 - 800 diamond in 3 playlists and I feel like a bronze when I look at real pro playing.

Really? o.O
I'm 880 platinum (formerly rank 1 in my division, currently rank 2).
When I watch the top players play, I don't feel like a bronze... I feel like I could actually beat some of their tactics. That might seem a bit cocky or may be too confident in my abilities, but I surely don't feel like a bronze.
Oh wait... what playlists? 2v2, 3v3, 4v4? or is 1v1 included? Because if it's team games you're diamond in and not 1v1, then I can totally understand. The tactics used in team games are far different than the ones in 1v1. The game is totally different, you just can't play it the same.

I'm only Bronze League but I've been watching pros and stuff non-stop. I think I have a good grasp on how to play. I'm just slow at executing things because I don't play much.

I don't reallly agree. Sure top player know their game and their strat, but some of the lower lvl player can have good idea and good tactic to tell and they should not be disregard just because they are 900 Diamond or something.

some pro, probably don't care and don'T want to give advice to new player but some lesser player would love to help and give their discovery. Remember that a lot of the new strat and new tactic will be discover by some lesser skilled player and be mastered by pro. Internet is place for player to insult and be ass-hole but most of ppl are respectfull and forum should not be locked because of those few ppl. Find an idea to give some 'star poster' or downgrade ppl that don't show respect or good info so they cannot post in a restricted strat section.

Pro are pro at mastering the game, but discovery will be made by any1.

Nice original post, even though it just paraphrases what I said before and expands on it with "the truth about diamond league". Anyway, I'm glad people are talking about it. I've always said that being highly ranked does not mean you understand the game well, and that credentials are overrated.

i was a C- BW player and ~700 diamond player (but i don't really ladder that much so that's probably why i'm not higher).

good post though. hope a lot of people read this.

Being able to beat their tactics doesn't mean you are able to beat them... otherwise you wouldn't be in Platinum with 880 points.

It's oh so easy to watch replays and casts/streams where you get to see the game progress and say, wow the opponent is doing X, why isn't that ProGamer doing Y to counter it? In game performance matters a lot, scouting information needs to be processed very quickly and suitable counter measures planned immediately since you don't have infinite resources and timing is crucial in a "real time" strategy game.

That is the main point of this thread really, it's that people will beat their chests and tell others how to play based on what they would have done "IN HINDSIGHT". If you are a high level player playing against another high level player, you won't be able to just casually go about executing your game plan. The opponent will harass you thus offsetting the timings of your strategy, they will also play mind games, thus stuffing up your scouting information, they will wreak havoc on your crucial structures in order to throw off your build.

Any monkey can say, ProGamer A went 5 X, 6 Y and 12 Z, so for ProGamer B to counter it he can just use 14 A and 6 B's since I tested it out in unit tester and 14 A's and 6 B's destroys the former composition.

I agree man. I'm an upper plat player, and I've run into low diamonds that won't give me the time of day just cause they got a couple hundred more points than me, thus making them think they know everything and their mother about sc2, when they're just gassed up nerds. Good post bro

Don't be ignorant. You do not have enough information to make the assumptions about me that you are making.
Do you do the same thing when you're playing SC2, assume your enemy is doing something and react accordingly, or do you gather the information you need before making your attack?
