TL Mafia XXX + Show Spoiler [Important Posts] + Intro: Why XXX? Because I'm a rebel and skipped XXIX because that number is uncool. Deal with it!
Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking.
This mafia game works slightly different than the normal one (read: Mafia), so I'll explain it a bit more. During the night mafia will collectively decide on and send in their hits to me, who they want dead (it's a good idea to discuss them during day so you know ahead of time). Any player with a special role that can act during the night must PM me their actions each and every night.
If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win the game. The goal for the townspeople is to lynch all the members of the mafia by whatever analysis, teamwork, or guile they have. The goal of the mafia, of course, is to kill the townspeople with murderous precision.
The game is typically very active and there are usually numerous walls of text to wade through. If you are not a person who likes reading then I highly suggest you don't play the game because it is essential to being informed within the game. I will not compensate for ignorance.
Rules: (subject to change)
Posting Etiquette: In the past, many players have complained or quit because of the excessive badmouthing and pointless flaming. If you are posting aggressively and know you couldn't get away with it anywhere else on this site, it probably definitely isn't okay here. Besides, contrary to what you may think, yelling at someone is a great way to convince people to disagree with your arguments. Please do not post inappropriately, or it will earn you a warning based on mod discretion. If you choose to ignore the warning, you will be modkilled and banned from future games. Examples of inappropriate posts include excessive cursing and vulgarity, among other things. BloodyC0bbler and I have the final say on whether or not a post is inappropriate or not. Be warned, I will be extremely intolerant of flaming this game. You get one warning to cool down, and if it continues actions will be taken. This is supposed to be an objective game, folks. Let's keep it that way.
Cheating: Cheating includes (but is not limited to) the following and will get you banned from future games: 1. Posting after death. You may have one goodbye post, but it may not contain any potential game-changing information. 2. Betraying your role and ruining the game for everyone by doing something like hand out your mafia's member list to the town. 3. Logging on to someone else's account / checking their PMs / looking over someone's shoulder to get their role. 4. Comparing role PM times to determine roles. 5. Posting screenshots of your inbox. This is not a photoshop competition. 6. Posting any PM you receive from a host. 7. Editing posts. Editing posts is not allowed for any reason. Anybody can see if you edited a post, and if you are caught, you will look suspicious. Editing will result in a warning. After that, you will be owned. I do have close connections to people who can check pre-edited material if you are truculent. Please do not edit; this is the one part of the site where it is okay to be double posting, even triple-posting. While I ask for everybody to post as concisely as possible, post again if you have to edit anything. 8. Spam is not tolerated, nor is any off-topic material. Play Mafia here. Do not discuss Proleague here. Do not talk about Starcraft II here. Play Mafia here, or beware. 9. Play to win.
Voting rules: 1. Voting is done in a separate thread, located here. Please keep votes there, and only vote there. The third post of this thread will contain the vote count. 2. Please vote in the following format, to make it easier for everyone to read: ##Vote Qatol. While the bolding in itself is not necessarily needed, it makes it easier on everybody's eyes. Please bold. Votes not done in the correct fashion will not be counted. I will update votes whenever I get the chance. 3. You cannot autochange your vote to the losing or winning bandwagon. 4. You may vote for yourself. You may not vote for anyone dead or outside the game. 5. In the event of a tie the person with the most votes first wins (or loses) over the other person. 6. Voting is mandatory. You may NOT abstain. 7. If you miss a vote or fail to post during one day cycle, you will receive be modkilled. Exceptions will only occur if I am notified ahead of time.
Modkills: Inactivity has been a problem in every mafia game so far. Inactivity is most easily defined as failure to vote. If you do miss a vote, you will be modkilled. Special consideration will be exercised if a player in danger of being modkilled by this manner has been an active contributor in the thread. If something comes up and you know you will miss the vote, PM me in advance about it to let me know and you will be spared. Remember again: abstaining votes are NOT allowed. And once again, flaming is not tolerated. Keep it civil, or else you will receive a quick lightning bolt to the back of the head. Furthermore, you must post at least once in this thread per game cycle (from the start of the night to the end of the next day) to avoid being modkilled. Simply voting doesn't work. This is to prevent lurkers from lurking. Anyone who is modkilled may not play in one of my games until they have proven themselves to be active players in another game. I am hoping I never have to modkill anyone. I enjoy modkills, please, let me use lightning. Please remain active so I do not have to. However, do not just simply spam one-liners or worthless posts. Strategic modkills are NOT allowed, either. A strategic modkill is defined as anything that will better the position of your team. You cannot threaten with the words "well if you kill X and he's not mafia I'll get myself modkilled" or anything in that vein. Essentially, you may not use your non-majority-decided death as a bargaining chip. If you do happen to be modkilled, you will be put on Qatol's ban list, and cannot play in an "official" game till you have served your sentence.
You have been warned. + Show Spoiler +Something burning-hot and life-ending this way comes.
Signups: Signups are closed.
Clues: There are no clues.
Time Cycle: This game will follow a strict 24 hour night/48 hour day cycle. In case I am not able to post around deadline, any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. Currently the tentative time deadline is 02:00 GMT (+00:00), but that is subject to change.
Credits: Thanks to anybody who's ever hosted a game. This list grows ever longer.
The balance crew (you know who you are) for helping to make this setup reasonably balanced.
If you have not read all the rules, please go back and do so. I do not compensate for ignorance!

Roles
This is a semi-open setup. Roles will be disclosed, but role counts will remain hidden. Read this section carefully, as it may be subject to change.
Please note: the results of all night actions will be returned with the posting of the next day post.
Citizen (Townie) You may just be a normal player but you are the backbone of the town. Your goal, with the special roles of the town, is to help bring the Brigade to justice. You get no special powers but the ability to vote during day. Blue Roles may look pretty but the real power lies with you!
Just please don't try to pretend to be a Village Idiot. Please.
Innocent Stalker (Nosy Neighbor) You love visiting other people at night! Except for that you don't actually go in the house. You kind of just lurk around outside. Unfortunately, you also don't plan ahead so when you wander out of your domicile at night, you go someplace random! Every night, you will visit another person; I will RNG the number of the person you are to visit, but you will not know that you visited that person. You will not visit the same person two nights in a row. You will not be told that you are an Innocent Stalker.
Conan the Not-So-Barbaric (Detective) You wear glasses! And you like snooping around at night, like a true stalker would. Luckily, if somebody stares at you you flex your tremendously normal-sized biceps and they forget you were there! You have the ability to make night investigations. Once per night phase you may PM me to role check somebody. You have unlimited role checks in total.
Active Stalker (Tracker) Ah, the energetic peeping Tom. Ever since you caught a sight of your best friend's sister changing clothes one day you've been hankering for more. Since you are technophobic and don't understand that the internet is for porn, you do it the old-fashioned way. You follow people around at night! Once per night, you may choose to track somebody of your choice. With the coming of the next day, you will be notified by PM of the people that person decided to visit, if any do exist. Unfortunately, you will not be able to track Ninjas, since they're so darn stealthy. If you track Mafia, then you will be led to the scene of the first target on the Mafia hitlist. If multiple Trackers all target Mafia, then they will be sent to different targets on the hitlist corresponding to who sent in the action when. The Principal is untrackable.
Lazy Stalker (Watcher) Unlike that cousin of yours, the Active Stalker, you enjoy being more slothful. You sit at home and stare at a computer screen all day, and thus you have become an insomniac. Since you are too lazy to go outside, you instead use your use of technology to watch people! Once per night, you may set up cameras outside somebody's domicile. You will be notified at the start of the next day by PM of all persons, if any, visiting said domicile last night. However, technology is inferior to the might of the Ninja, so you will not be able to see them visiting! If you watch somebody who is a target of the Mafia, you will be told who sent in that night's kill list.
Boy Scout (Medic) Everybody needs to beware of your merit badges! You have the ability to prevent one hit on a player of your choice during the night with your good Samaritan ethos. You may not protect yourself. Each Boy Scout, being still as of yet not of legal age, can only stop one hit and as such if the number of Brigade members is greater than the number of Boy Scouts on a player then that player will die. You will know if you saved the person. The person will know if he was saved. If the person dies, despite you protecting them for one hit you still will not receive a notification, as you did not 'save' the person. If you are protecting a PTSD Soldier and they are hit, your ability supersedes theirs. A Boy Scout can protect someone the night she/he (whoops Girl Scout?) gets killed. He/she won't be notified of the save though, since he/she is dead.
Wannabe Batman (Vigilante) You are Batman! At least, you think you are. Unfortunately, you wear hockey pants, so of course you aren't the real Batman. You may, only once during the game, clock somebody (another player) of your choice on the head during the night, thus killing them because that's how things work in the real world. Unfortunately, you only have one hockey stick to clock somebody with, and it breaks after the first use. If your hit overlaps with the Brigade's then I will cancel it and the Brigade will kill the person instead. In the case of overlapping Wannabe Batmans (Batmen?), the hit that was sent first is the one that goes through. In both cases you will not know who caused your hit to be canceled and you will be able to use your hit anytime after that during the game. Boy Scout protection may block your hit, and, if it does, you will have used your killing ability. A Wannabe Batman can kill someone during the night where she/he gets killed. You may not use your ability on night 1 because you are too busy out combing Wal-Mart for hockey pants.
Mad Nutter (Mad Hatter) You love... nuts! Starting Night 1, you may choose to send a peanut-butter-and-explosive-compound filled mouse to tail a player of your choice. You may only send out one mouse per night, and can only have two mice out total tailing different people. Once per night, you may decide to switch a mouse tailing one person to another person (last change with respect to deadline is considered the one taken into effect). You may both send out your second mouse as well as switch targets with the first mouse on the same night. When you are killed, you will press a button on a remote control that you conveniently keep on you at all times, causing your mice to detonate, killing whomever it is that they are following. If a person a mouse has been tailing is killed during the night, the mouse will come back to you. However, if said person is lynched your mouse will be so emotionally attached by that point that it will commit hari-kiri, causing you to lose the mouse forever. If you are modkilled, your mice will not detonate, and if a person you had the mouse on is modkilled your mouse will return to you.
Bus Driver (Bus Driver) You drive a taxi cab! Wait, no, that's not right... You drive a bus! A large, red bus! I don't know why it's red, but you like it because you're British. Unfortunately, your definition of "large" is tremendously undersized, meaning that your bus can only hold two other people! Once per night, you may choose to pick up two people (and if they don't want to ride the bus, you chloroform them and then steal the fare money) and then deposit them... at the wrong stops! In laymen's terms, you switch people! That means that is Person A is targeted by Mafia to be killed and Person B is targeted by a Boy Scout to be protected, then Person A will be killed by the Mafia and Person B will be protected by the Boy Scout. But hey, what does it matter to you? You get paid either way, and you drive a freaking red bus. It has two stories to it. Can't bus yourself, as well, since then who drives the bus?
PTSD Soldier (Veteran) You have just returned from the Canada-America War! Being a valiant soldier, you were on the frontline and were thus showered by explosions and other terrifying, war-related sounds. As a result, upon returning home you have been diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. This makes you extremely jumpy randomly. Cat playing with the blender? Mailboy throwing paper into the bushes (again...)? You react instantly and jump into action! As a result, you get two night lives instead of one! This means it takes at least two successful hits in one night to kill you, or one hit on each of two separate nights. You will be told when they lose one of your night lives. If you get lynched, you die, regardless of whether you have an extra night life remaining. War training does not teach you how to survive being hanged.
Disillusioned Teachers' Brigade (Mafia) Due to recent budget cuts, the local government decided that your schools would be underfunded for the next year! Thus, as a collective you have together formed a collective to find vengeance. Your goal is to eliminate everyone else in the town so that you may garner their funds for your school! Your ability, as a group, is killing off whomever you decide on at night and knowing the role of each other player in your Brigade. You may kill your own members, since that means more funding for the individuals! You also must choose the Principal from amongst yourselves. If you do not choose by night 1, I will randomly choose for you. Remember, you are doing this for the children! The children!
School Janitor (Mafia Roleblocker) You wax the floors of the school, but that isn't all that you wax! Once per night, you may send in a PM detailing a person you would like to block. That person will have the entirety of his house and surrounding are waxed, and thus will be unable to leave to commit their own night action. Hah! That person will be notified that they were waxed, and if the person being waxed has a night action, he or she will not be able to use it. Please note that this ability only pertains to active actions. Passive abilities, such as the PSTD Soldier's extra lives, cannot be blocked by the Janitor.
Teacher's Pet (Framer) You cry foul! Due to sucking up to the teacher all the time, you are bullied by the other students. However, what they don't know is that through the power of the internet, you are able to exact your revenge! Once per night, you may send in a PM detailing a person you would like to be 'framed'. If a Conan checks that person that night he will get back that said person is Brigade regardless of the person's true role. You yourself show up as Brigade to role checks.
Principle Principal (Godfather) You are the Head Honcho, the Big Boss, the Chocolate Cheese (wait what?). The Principal has the ability to decide what role he will appear to be when a Conan role checks him. It may be any role and must be chosen Day 1 or he will default to Citizen role. After your role is chosen you may not change it after that; decisions are final for the whole game. The Principal may not be tracked.
And finally, for the most epic role of them all...
Ninja (Ninja) You are a badass. So badass, in fact, that your name is italicized. Doesn't that make you feel cool? You are the master of stealth, and because of that I forgot to include you in here with my first run-through of the role descriptions. Being a master of stealth, you are undetectable by Stalkers, both Active and Lazy, though you do show up to Conan's (and other Ninjas' ) checks (can't escape those muscles!) as Ninja. You are the third party to this game. Your goal is to kill off all the other Ninjas, and that is your sole victory condition. You will know how many other Ninjas reside within the town, but the town will not. To help you track your fellowenemy Ninjas, you are given a pair of limited-usage glasses! That is to say, you will be able to act as Conan does and make a rolecheck investigation on somebody once per night, with a total of three rolechecks. In order to eliminate your opposition, you use sharpened chopsticks, as a true badass would. You only have one pair of chopsticks though (meaning two!), so think carefully before throwing one! (You throw them one at a time) If you kill a Ninja with your chopstick, you will magically wake up the next morning to find a new one at your bedside. You have two night lives, which grants you one extra layer of protection against mice, hockey sticks, and the Brigade, but not against chopsticks! Unless a Ninja is targeting another Ninja, his hit counts for only one, and if blocked by a Boy Scout, the "extra" portion of the hit doesn't go through even if he is targeting a Ninja. However, since Ninjas cannot look cool by killing with glasses on, you must choose to either use a rolecheck or a kill order, not both in the same night. After you have eliminated all other Ninjas, you are removed from the game. For counting purposes, you number amongst the town-aligned roles.
Double Lynch
Usable two times per game, the town lynches two people instead of one. This means on the next day everyone gets two votes to distribute between two different people. The double lynch is activated by voting for it in addition to a player (or players if a double lynch is currently activated). The vote must exceed half the number of players voting that day. IE: If there are 30 players voting then the town needs 16 votes to use a double lynch. Double lynches may be voted on starting Day 2. Double lynches may be used on consecutive days. Players cannot place all of their votes on one player when a double lynch is in effect.

There is a massive thunderstorm going on right now and I'm afraid I'm going to lose power, so the game officially starts now and will end in about 50 hours and 18 minutes on Sunday, Aug 08 2:00am GMT (GMT+00:00).
Expect an opening post shortly if I am not seared to death.

/in Game by flamewheel should be good, even if I don't know the exact details yet I'm going to try to be more calm and analytical this game rather than jumping for tiny details lol

This will be awesome. I know it (also kinda feel bad for new players who while seeking for meta will futilely look for the passed number. Maybe after few months we should start saying "flamewheel played epic game on Mafia XXIX" or "look at Bill Murray at XXIX as example how NOT to play town" to confuse the newcomers )

There should be some role to celebrate this illustrious milestone.
Prostitute - If you're visited in the night, the identity of your visitor and the action they took is revealed in the day post. You stay annoymous, but, probably for not that long! *wink wink!* You have two night lives.

Prostitute is like a watcher that always self-watches and has two lives. I don't approve. It takes no skill to use this role.
