I saw it very late after ppl hyped it up and spoiled it for me. But even then, I liked it quite a bit. Yes, you might find it a little cheesy. You can also watch Gran Turino too. I personally don't like it as much as others do, but it's decent enough. Also Mystic River is good as well ... Clint Eastwood directed it though, he's not actually in it.

fight club or forest gump! Fight Club will last longer Would that be The Descent? Yes. I couldn't remember the title for some reason. British version <--- the US version they change the ending Can you recommend me a movie about politics, such as State of play, please? Thank you very much. How high is your tolerance for disturbing? Try Law Abiding Citizen if its high. Otherwise a reallllllly good kick back movie is 3 days of the condor something involving magic and reality meshed that isnt harry potter, inception, the sorcerer's apprentice, or lord of the rings affiliated? Are you looking for reality bending or good plot involving magic? Jumper had some cool special effects. For a good plot involving magic I might make you stretch out a bit and watch an anime series Scrapped Princess. If you refuse to go anime and Jumper isn't up your alley, go foreign with Let the Right One In. Its a bit slow paced over all, but it has a fantastic ending sequence. A good inspirational movie, something like Any given sunday. Thanks How much like Any given sunday? Rudy? Jerry Maguire?Know any good clint eastwood movies? I've watched Heartbreak Ridge and Escape from Alcatraz. Is million dollar baby good? I heard it was cheesy Eastwood is not my specialty. I hated Million Dollar Baby but you might like it depending on your outlook on life. For old school just go with The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Otherwise I liked Gran Torino a lot I could really use some good mindfuck movies to be honest! Something or any movie similar to Shutter Island, The Machinist. Anything besides Fightclub, it's great and all but I believe it's highly overrated. Have you seen The Usual Suspects? For something that is a little less mainstream these days try Presumed Innocent i really like stuff about organized crime and italian mobsters. are there any good movies about this? i never watch movies so i dont know anything. something with like a mob family and what goes on in that lifestyle would be nice. I have to point you to the classics. Set out a day for yourself and watch The GodFather and follow it up with the sequel. If you don't have as much time or if you don't the GodFather's slow pace try Good Fellas Something similar to Amelie? Amelie is a hard vibe to match. Its darker but Little Miss Sunshine keeps coming to mind. For something not so dark try the newer or older version of Sabrina. The 1995 version is my favorite chick flick.

What is the best movie you have seen this year? (opening up rant opportunity) Inception is by far the best movie I have seen all year. When George Lucas was writing the Phantom Menace he had a vision of threading together a complex multi-faceted narrative that pulled the audience through an intense series of visuals and action packed drama. His attempt was a miserable failure. However where Lucas failed in his screen writing endeavors, Christopher Nolan not only succeeded but completely dwarfed Lucas' vision. Additionally he managed to do so without drawing upon familiar or controversial imagery to hold the audiences attention. To quote Nony in another blog that was closed Inception is refreshingly free of any bullshit social commentary. It's a sci fi action movie with an intriguing story and good acting. . (Unlike my commentary Inception is BS commentary free!) If you don't see Inception based on shining recommendations then go see it as a part of social activism. While the 1996 release of Mission Impossible was highly successful it also brought several fan complaints that the plot was too complicated and hard to follow. Rather than sticking to a successful formula, the movie studios responded by capitulating to the lowest common denominator. Mission Impossible 2 was released 4 years later and grossed 215 million dollars. The plot was infantile in comparison. Instead of relying on character development and strong story telling, Mission Impossible II bombarded spectators with excessively long action sequences and expensive special effects. Since then the "Michael Bay" style of movie directing has dominated the movie landscape. Inception offers a rebellious intellectual option that manages to provoke thought without delving into standard Oscar pandering subject matter. It proves that you can have a compelling plot without sacrificing entertainment or becoming detached from the average viewer. Inception spearheads the effort back towards compelling story telling by ironically planting the rebellious idea that complex movies can also be entertaining.

What's a good, clever comedy? Not just trip falls and stupid jokes, something witty. If you want some subtle comedy that rotates around character development try Pretty Bird. Warning: its not funny-haha. Its extremely subtle and almost entirely centers on the really rich characters. I want to see some movies with badass characters, not a gimmick, someone really interesting/funny/smart, in other words, unique and awesome. Don't care about the genre so much, comedy, action, horror... doesn't matter. Someone like Clint in Gran Torino or Hitgirl (lolwut :D) District B13 and its sequel District B13 are heavy on the butt kicking and have interesting characters. It is a bit gimmicky (pakour) but I still found it compelling. Diggity, recommend me 3 movies please ^^ Just 3 random? Inception (duh) UP 180 Degrees South Name the best foreign film so far this year and why. I don't get to see as many foreign films (compared to US market). The ones I do see tend to be 1-2 years post release so 2010 basically excludes any foreign films that I have seen. Additionally that broadens things a bit too far in my opinion. Also certain markets (France China UK) will always get more attention than others (Belarus Chile etc). . However I will risk recommending a movie I have yet to see. The Legend is Born: Ip Man Ip man is the long heralded teacher of the great Bruce Lee. The original followed IP man's life and struggle through war torn China. The story isn't just about Ip Man, its about China's struggle to maintain a sense of national pride and identity despite the circumstances. If the choreography, set making, acting and historical impact remain true to the original I believe this movie will be great. lac29: How about yourself?

I need a good Historical War Epic I haven't seen, I'm not really picky with movies but I love nothing more than a good historical war epic, even mediocre ones are good. Robin Hood was very reminiscent of Gladiator. But let me recommend a really good flick: Zulu but what about movies without a happy end? i think i could live with knowing about that beforehand. Try The Prestige. Absurd movies realllllly aren't my genre. So I guess try Slammin Salmon. I don't put my weight behind that one though. You might try The Hangover but again its not my thing. [edit] I do however love silly movies that are flat out silly from concept. Snakes on a plane for example or Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (of course! Pheromones!) Godzilla 2000 is probably my favorite film in this genre

I like movies with clever plot twists that I don't see coming. (They don't have to be too subtle for me not to see them coming: I'm not the most perspicacious when it comes to movies.) For example, I really enjoyed The Sting. I also liked Se7en and The Sixth Sense. I tried watching The Usual Suspects once, but I couldn't make heads or tails of what was happening and gave up watching about halfway through. (Maybe I should try again sometime...) Can you recommend anything for me?

lac29: How about yourself? I actually can't think of a foreign film that I've seen this year. I did see Ip Man (2008/2009) ... and it's certainly decent, especially if you are a action/martial arts fan. There are definitely some nice fight scenes. As for storyline etc, it's ok. Ip Man 2 is also out although I have not seen it. I hear the Korean (2009/2010) film Mother is good but have yet to see it. I also have yet to see the Swedish film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ... you probably have heard of it since it's been hitting it big time in terms of hype. Everyone says the Argentinian film, The Secret in Their Eyes, is great although it's more of a underground thing (even though I think it won something major last year?). Edit: Ah ... I remember that Ponyo (2008/2009) was excellent. I was actually pleasantly surprised by it since Howl's Moving Castle was a little disappointing imo.
