Calm down.
Achievements are probably going to suck for MP most of the time, but they'll probably be a blast for single player.
Then noobs will cheese just to achieve that.
Like they weren't cheesing before?
What will be retarded is if they have an achievement like "win a 2 hour game". Ugh.
|
Can't he get those achievements in custom games against the computer anyway? Why would you waste someone's time in a ladder game =/
|
I think achievements are kind of fun. Maybe you should get better at SC2 instead?
|
The OP doesn't hate achievements because they're hard to get or because he loses to people trying to get them. He hates them because noobs waste his time in ladder games by trying to achieve ridiculous achievements instead of playing a normal, semi-challenging ladder game.

Same concept as playing any noobs at all. Once you get better yourself, you won't have to deal with them. If you aren't ranked high enough to not run in to noobs all the time, then look at yourself a little more closely

I dunno, i kinda like achievements, but i won't go out of my way to ruin someone else's game jsut so i can get the achievement. =\

Achievements are a great idea. Psychologically they do a good job of pointing newbs (most likely to be achievement hunters) in the right direction. Also, that's a really funny rage story. Kind of. In some cases its a bit ridiculous - I'm fairly certain the Fast Expand achievement requires you to do completely retarded builds like a 10hatch though. I couldn't get a 14hatch to finish on time.
I did a 13 hatch on Metalopolis today and received this achievement. ZvP on Metalopolis I spawn as Z at 4, he spawns at 2 as P.
When my ovie go to his base, I saw that his workers had not moved from the original positions around the nexus. Figuring he was afk or had dropped but had not yet left the game, I just calmly 13 hatch, 12 pooled and sent 1 ling to kill him while working on my zerg mechanics (spreading creep, putting down creep tumours) -Will upload the replay and screenshot of this as soon as I finish watching SKT vs CJ Day 1

You know what I fucking HATE about achievements? Whenever YOU or your FRIEND or your DOG gets one. Blizzard doesn't just put alittle popup in the bottom right of your screen that lets you know you accomplished something. No. IT HAS TO BLOCK THE ENTIRE FUCKING PLAYING FIELD DURING THE MIDDLE OF A MICRO BATTLE. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

lol, this is a win on your part. you should be happy you stopped a douchy achievement hunter from getting an achievement that he worked so hard to force you to fulfill. be proud!

The idea I get from this is that Wizards develop their game to a wide variety of audience. People with different interests, resources, different profiles. That column is from quite some time ago, about some 3-4 months ago Rosewater did a new version of this where he added a new profile Vorthos, and I think there is even another one I don't remember, but it does not matter for now.
The three big mtg profiles are: Timmy: He plays for fun, he plays to do awesome stuff. Getting his 20/20 flying, indestructible, unbockable, with shroud and smashing to the face ^^ Jhonny:He plays to show how creative he is, he does not want to win, he wants to win with style. Cascade Swans from the last block (I loved that deck). Spike: He plays to win, that's it. Fairies. *Vorthos: He likes the art in the cards, he likes the story, he collects the cards. Buying books, collecting cards
Now, in terms StarCraft: Timmy: He likes getting his motherships, with his 3/3/3 carriers and a-moving, playing to unlock those achievements ^^ Johnny: Those crazy builds, Mass Queen ZvZ, Collo - Phoenix , and Still manage to create stable play. Spike: Idra, playing, refining, improving. Vorthos: There was a thread a little while ago about the lore of SC2, where it is, what will we see. I read about the Xel Naga reproduction, about Duran, I did not know Anything about that. And there's people who like this, think, and well enjoy it ^^
I sense a lot of elitism in TL. I know this site was formed as a forum for competitive StarCraft gamers, but now Team Liquid is so much more, with such a variety of people we have our Timmys, Johnys, Spikes, Vorthoss.
This went a little off of what I wanted to say, but oh well ^^

After I destroy his main and natural, he hides in bottom right corner, and fills the entire thing with cannons doesn’t even have a nexus. I had gone ultras so run ultras up the ramp with hydras behind, throw away 2 maxed armies like this and realize it’s not going to do anything. So I have to put down spire and go BL.
Once I get BL this dumb bitch gets mad me for killing him before he can get his achievement, this is the first time he mentions it. And he says either run lings till he gets the achievement or kill every building, naturally I don’t want to help him after he wasted like 15 minutes of my time so I spend another 5 minutes finding and killing everything.
FUCK ACHIVEMENTS STAY ON THE XBOX WHERE YOU BELONG

it's funny cuz in 10 days all the people who actually do care about achievements will have to start all over again.

The fast expand achievement is a melee achievement and not a league achievement so you can do it against easy AI. Do something like 6 hatch :p
I think that those achievements like getting 20 zerglings up before 5 minutes etc are there to make newbs develop how to build armies early which is a problem noobs have in most games. And with noobs I don't mean the average bronze player, they usually can play decently being able to execute basic rushes and such but the newbs whojust majorly suck since they have no clue at all about RTS.
