I thought I'd throw down some predictions for who I think reigns by the end of 2010 and into 2011
Lightweight: BJ Penn
He was finally toppled this year by Frank Edgar, but that will change come August. I honestly think BJ was robbed that fight, but it's his fault for ever letting it get that close. I predict BJ winning via submission midway through the fight. After that he takes on Gray Maynard(who I believe beats Florian), and makes a mess of Gray's face with superior boxing and not letting it go to the ground with his mutant-like flexibility.
Welterweight: George St.Pierre
The picture tells it all really. He did it once to Koscheck, I dont see it being any different the second time around. George has the best wrestling in the welterweight division, maybe all of MMA. Josh has little more than a punchers chance. Probably the second easiest prediction here, George by TKO Rd.4, to remain champ for the remainder of the year.
Middleweight: Anderson Silva
I picked Dan to win that fight, as I did with just about anyone Anderson has fought. I have never liked Anderson Silva, and to be honest I still don't. But I do respect his ability. He manages to put on a bunch of clown shows in his fights, because he's just that good, and no one has been able to stop him thus far. Do I think Chael Sonnen has a chance? Not really. I'm just waiting for Anderson to jump to 205 and fight stiffer competition(Shogun anyone?). Anderson will dominate 185 for quite some time.
Light Heavyweight: Lyoto Machida
This one is tough to stay on topic because Shogun is out for so long. I still have faith In Machida. I think he'll fight possibly Rashad or the Ryan Bader/Lil Nog winner for a title shot. I think of this as sort of what GSP went through when he was on top of the world. All the pressure got to him, but he came back stronger than ever. I feel like it will be the same for Machida, meanwhile we have awhile for the 205 division to sort itself out while Shogun recovers.
Heavyweight: Cain Velasquez
Ok what can I say, I love this guy. I think he is one of the most gifted Heavyweights ever. I think he moves better than Brock on the ground, he's a hell of a lot faster, and with superior technique in the stand-up game. I truly believe in technique over power. No doubt Brock is a monster and a truly gifted athlete, I just feel Cain brings a lot more to the table. He will use his vastly superior technique in ALL areas to dismantle Brock for a decision win. Besides, Mexico needs a heavyweight hero.

I really think Brock Lesnar will beat Velasquez. Have you seen Lesnars last match? He can endure so much punishment, it's unreal.
|
i'm going to say chael sonnen at MW tired of anderson's fucking antics...
i duno how you can say machida will be the champion. maybe interim champ since shogun messed up his knee..AGAIN. but regardless shogun will remain champ until he fights again (like brock lesnar).
|
brock is going to destroy cain... way off on that but everybody else was pretty straight forward
|
I really hate Brock and Anderson Silva, I hope Cain owns Brock and I don't really think anyone can own Silva, YET.

That is true, but if you remember Shane only connected with maybe about 15 of those 3000000 punches on the ground. He wore himself out, but you never know. Lesner is a beast.
Machida is my favorite fighter ever, so I'm hoping he wins it. Silva is a great fighter and except for the forrest fight I really like him. GSP is sick, love him. He is also amazing in the UFC games :D
|
Why Lyoto Machida? He got beat twice my Shogun.(first match everyone know Shogun won that fight). Little curious of the Machida.
|
I don't agree with Machida part. He's awesome, and may easily get the belt one day, but I don't see him getting the title shot before he does like 2-3 more fights, which means up to 2 years of waiting.
|
Yeah I couldn't really pick a 205er for the end of this year, Shogun is out for a long time. I still think when there is a title fight it will be a 3rd between machida and shogun, with machida finally taking it.
|
I really doubt Machida will get a title shot before the end of the year. Shogun already has another fight lined up this year. Machida wont get a shot until 2011.
|
so you basically made a blog to say you think cain will beat brock.
|
I made it to spark some debate, and just to kill some time.

A lot of people are saying Cain Velasquez can beat Lesnar, but I do not believe it at all. Carwin is probably the best striker in the UFC and he couldn't knock out Lesnar. Also, I refuse to think that Velasquez could take control of Lesnar on the ground. He is a physical freak and a national champion wrestler.

I definitely see Lesnar taking down Velasquez a few times during the fight, I just feel Cain will have superior grappling to get back to his feet. I can see Cain's striking eventually keeping Brock at bay from going for takedowns, picking him apart for the majority of the fight.

I guess the only advantage Cain will have is having watched the Carwin fight because that's probably how he would of went at Brock too. I highly doubt that Cain will be able to hold off Brock on the ground though. He might be able to get back on his feet, but eventually if he's down Brock is going to keep him down.

I suppose we'll see, either way its going to be exciting, I hope they do one of those week long specials before the fight. It might be one of those end of the year shows too, could be a loaded ass card.

I heard Brock was wanting to fight again by November.
