Even if you haven't been a sub, would you ever consider doing it? I mean, you don't have to deal with long term assignments or planning or anything. It's basically like a babysitting thing isn't it? Give me your thoughts.

anyway, you should go for it if you're curious. if you have fun, good for you. if you don't, well you tried it and you had wanted to so nothing lost.

It's not a serious career that I'm aiming for, I just want to try it out as one of the part time things I can do in a year off. Like just do it as an experience just to say I've done this before. I don't know if it will be fun or be a pain, but if its a pain, I can just not do it anymore right? For the people who go off to korea to teach english, why not just do sub teacher in USA? Pay is not good no matter where u go, and you dont have language barier etc. Plus, u can stay at home.

It was never that bad at my school, the worst that it got was just that the kids got too loud an you have to tell them to keep it down.

However, we also get a wide variety of individuals as substitutes. Off of the top of my head, I remember I've had an ex-convict, several guys who could barely speak English, soccer moms, and a humorously cynical college graduate. Anyway, it really depends on where you're subbing. Personally, I would probably do it if I had to and I knew I would be subbing my area, mainly because I know that it'd be a pretty easy job over here. Take into account what the schools are like in your vicinity and ask yourself if you're ready to take on both the best and worst of classrooms. Try to find friends/relatives/relatives of friends who have had experience with subbing in your community, for they would probably provide you with the most relevant advice for your situation.

This advice is actually pretty damn accurate. I mean, I always remember liking the subs who "connected" with the kids rather than just controlling them up there. One teacher even played a song on guitar for us, made some jokes, and everyone loved him afterwards.
