It looks like we have 9 people now (not counting cata, since I think he might be a little to good for this game), so if everyone else thinks its a good idea too, I think we should get the game started as soon as So no fek has a chance to do so. He has mentioned that he's pretty busy right now though, so its no problem if it doesn't get going right away. And thanks a lot, So no fek, for putting this thread together. This game should be a lot of fun

I haven't added Soda and Dobrev to the list, which would put as at 10. I'd have no problem letting Biochemist in if we play a Prince level game, though it might be a bit high for him if we play a Noble level game. But yeah, I think that regardless of what level we're playing on you're a bit high level for this game, catabowl. I'll create a few polls in a few minutes, just to verify settings and then start the game either later today or tomorrow.
|
Considering how some people said they are pretty new, i don't think it's bad to have some better players like Biochemist and catabowl playing. Plus if you really gonna play Huge/Epic more than 10 players won't hurt as it's gonna be a very long game. Plus it doesn't look like it's gonne be a noble game if you look at the poll! ;p

Okay, here are the settings we'll be playing on. I'll be posting a poll, and if the majority is Yes by the end of the day, I'll get the game started. If you disagree with the choices, please explain yourself in a post, and if the majority votes No, we'll take a day or two to agree.
The settings to be played are: Prince difficulty, Continents, Huge map, Random climate, Epic speed, Barbs on, tech trading on, vassals on, huts/events on, all but time on for victory, and everyone has the complete freedom to make whatever decision they want during their turn.
Poll: Do you agree with these settings overall?Yes (7) 100% No - Explain in post (0) 0% 7 total votes Your vote: Do you agree with these settings overall? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No - Explain in post

god damn i just uninstalled civ4 cause it was taking up too much space T.T only played one game though. ran through on chieftain just to check out the changes from civ 2. probably too shitty to play even this game lol. good luck everyone who signs up.
|
Nah, if you hadn't just uninstalled, you'd definitely be the type of player we want in this game.
|
Settings sound good to me - can't wait to start!
|
Prince, huge and epic, oh dear lord, this is gonna be hell of challenge! Looking forward to learn alot how to play on that kind of map with increased difficulty.
|
I'll be starting the game later today. I'll also be PMing everyone on the list to confirm both their interest in playing the game, and who will PM them before their turn/who they should PM after their turn.
|
Nice !
Can you put the initial save online if some of us want to play in parallel ? (I want to compare my decisions to everyone's)
|
I'll be starting the game later today once I get more confirmation PMs. I'll upload a 4000BC save after I start it.
|
Creating the game now, but realized I forgot to include a poll for sea level. However, as climate is random, so will this option. If anyone is absolutely against that, you can send me a PM, but unless a lot of people are, we'll go with the luck of the draw.

Okay, I'll be writing my report now, but I must say that we're in an absolutely amazing position. Our fat cross has two gold, cows, rice, and wine. We're in a heavily forested area otherwise, but I wanted to found our city on the first move, so I just moved our warrior onto a hill and decided that our position wasn't bad (pretty sure I saw all the resources before founding.) I'm uploading screenshots now, and the report will follow shortly, however, I'm quite excited to say that we have a religion founding civ maybe 10 spaces west of us. I sincerely hope you have a bit of warmonger in you, BrownBear.

Our settings
We spawn with Mansa Musa. I've never played as him before, but based on my newbie level analysis, he isn't a bad leader by any means. Starting technologies are solid enough (roads and the ability to jump right into bronze working and mine up our gold), the financial trait is great, and I'm personally fond of Spiritual. Can jump right into Slavery, and it will make diplomatic choices easier.
The Skirmisher isn't a terrible unit. Should make our cities easily defendable. If we don't have a source of copper, they might help us take out our neighbor to the west. And the Mint increases our gold multiplier by 10% (with a Forge). Not the greatest bonus, but it doesn't have any downside to it.
I somehow managed to forget to screenshot this first thing, so I loaded up the 4000BC save real quick to show you all what I saw. I moved the warrior south, which I believe revealed the rice.
First contact! And only 8 turns in....
Once again missed an important shot that I'm just now thinking of, but the first set of villagers to the east provided us with a scout; the rest was just maps and a bit of gold. This shot provides a decent view of our immediate territory, as well as bronze working/worker building.
Our fat cross.
Peace for now, but FUUUUUUUU is all I have to say to this.
A rather unfocused shot, but please do take notice of what the cursor is displaying. RUSHRUSHRUSHRUSHRUSH Also, Marble.
Yes, Marble.
Villagers give us some gold after we threaten them with our clubs.
And again.
Our worker finishes. Thought about going with another, or a settler, but figured that getting our population up a bit so we could work some of the sexy tiles was immediately more important. Especially since bronze working hadn't popped yet. Went with a placeholder warrior over the barracks.
No food techs and lots of forests pretty much limited me to building a mine on the gold.
Axemen are enabled. Now all we need is some copper... Also note that Justinian has Buddhism. Another important thing I forgot to screenshot, but it's why I'm so happy I chose to go right for Bronze Working.
Was between Agriculture and Masonry. You guys will have to decide what direction to go in next since we're so close to a source or Marble. But I figured that working on our first city was important, and thus teching Agriculture would allow us to pick up the Rice and open up Animal Husbandry for the cows.
Slavery! And what's that I see? Copper! Unfortunately it's not going to be in our borders anytime soon unless we settle down there.
The world as we know it.
I decided to stop there. We have Bronze Working, and a pretty easily reachable source of copper and marble. If I were to continue, I would without a doubt attempt to secure the source of copper as soon as possible. Killing a civ off early as well as acquiring a religion is a lot more tempting to me than going for the marble first. But that's up for BrownBear to decide.

I'm a retard.
Here's the save:

4000 BC save is in the OP.

Nice start.
Where is Justinian at exactly? Or did you just run into his warrior? I say we should definitely make a move to take him out.
|
If I may make a suggestion, the 2 techs you should get right now (sick sick start location, rice, cows, fresh water, wine and double gold. Are you kidding me?!) is agriculture and animal husbandry to hook up the rice and cows which would turn your capital into expansionist powerhouse (food speeds up settlers and workers much faster than hammers, not to mention city growth).

You can see his borders to the west. They're gray.

Yeah, that was my line of thinking. After I went with Bronze Working, I decided on Agriculture, and had I continued probably would have gone AH, and then finally Masonry if I still thought it was possible to go for a wonder associated with Marble.
BrownBear has confirmed.

PM recieved, will play tomorrow if not tonight. I'm planning to rush for the copper, then decide what I want to do from there.
