Btw. do you think markets are good choice right now, seems to me they are not worthy (too long to build, little gain because of low commerce and high science rate, in war with 2 neighbours). I'm definitely going to strengthen our defenses and get cats to kick some ass

Our economy is pretty strong at the moment; it's probably a better idea to put it off in favor of military units to force Shaka to accept peace on our terms. Right now he'll only accept peace if we give up a city, so we need to take the fight to him before he'll back down. Our economy is still in pretty decent shape, so let's save the markets until it starts to struggle.

It's a good time to start specializing our cities, so we should only build market in the high commerce/low production cities, and leave the high productions cities to build troops.

Warpath brought us good results so far, so I will try to stick with it during my set of turns (our enemies don't want to make peace with reasonable conditions anyway).

For start I switched production in Liquidia and General to Skirmirsher, because we need defenses for our new cities and Timbuktu, which is quite vulnerable to Shaka - only 3 squares to his culture border and he boasts to have Swordsmen.

Next turn, buddhism spreads to Timbuktu, so we get +1 to culture and can switch production to granary. Bad news is Huayna Capac builds The Great Lighthouse, so I order Thessalonica to build barracks since it's our best production city. We will get Great Lighthouse other way, we'll just need to wait for catapults We get 134$ for lost hammers, which will allow us to keep science rate higher for a while.

I promoted our troops near Machu Picchu and easily captured and burned it down. Since Huayna still doesn't want to give us alphabet for peace, we're heading to Cuzco for some pillage action.

Our empire now holds half million souls! Thessalonica starts to build first military units. Since attacking Cuzco would be a suicide, we'll just make their life tough.

Bad news, Shaka showed up near Timbuktu with 2 chariots and 2 archers, I don't think we'll be able to defend with 1 skirmirsher. Help is sent right away, but it's one turn behind

Granary is built in Constantinople, Market will be next since it's holy city and has potential to be our gold farm. Barb archer appears near Liquidia, but two newly built skirmirshers will deal with it. Shaka pushes me to make a round of axemen. Incas don't like our presence and send a little force to keep us busy, too bad Cuzco is already pillaged.

That asshole Shaka captures Timbuktu, but we retake it right away! Only good thing is he converted to buddhism, so he'll like us more. And we didn't lose any buildings, because there were none there.

Some worker action going on - chopping near Constantinople to get market faster and clear good tiles for cottages, buiding cottages etc. Another barb appears near Timbuktu, but we're safe. Next turn, construction finishes, I chose to continue with horseback riding to utilize our horses, we will hopefully get alphabet the other way. An opportunity to end war rises, but we won't take it without any benefit, bad luck.

I give orders to build 3 catapults in our cities with barracks and play some positional games with that small Incan stack near Cuzco. Next turn I whip all catapults and slaughter all Incan reinforcements after they leave forrests.

Buddhism spreads to Chemistville, but more importantly Shaka shows up with another few units near Timbuktu, this time we should be prepared with 2 skirmirshers.

Huayna Capac finally realises that he's screwed, so we make peace for alphabet and 80 gold. Our troops needed healing anyway and it will take roughly 10 turns for our catapults to get there, so we're fine.

Next turn Shaka attacks Timbuktu, but we defend well. Also, someone got great scientist.

Few turns afterwards I just rally our troops to borders of Incan city of Corihuayrachina and build some improvements. Constantinople builds our first market and continues with colloseum due to unhapiness. Hotbid is finnaly connected to our trade route. After building 2 more catapults, I think we should build colloseums to let our cities grow. So this is the world in 190 AD.

We have a nice stack to destroy Incas right after peace lock ends and shoud be quite safe from other attacks. Next person should probably improve our economy a bit since we're a little behind. Getting few horse archers to push Shaka to peace isn't bad idea either. But watch out, seems he already has 11 cities and quite big army, so we shouldn't get into long war with him or others could get too ahead.

Confirmed, I'll probably look over the game sometime today, but it might be a couple days before I get around to me turn. Thought he's not really much of a threat now, Capac has really screwed with me in other games, so I'd definitely like to take him out sooner than later. And no one likes being at war with Shaka, so even if we can't get much out of it, I'd like to settle on an uneasy peace; glad he converted to Buddhism at the very least.

Screw the economy, I say! I went into my turn with one thing in mind, and that was to bring the Incans to the ground. I succeed in doing so with minimal losses (two catapults and two axemen was the death toll, I believe.)

In all honestly, my turn was pretty bad. I didn't attempt to specialize any of the cities, and just went along with what felt right at the time. The first thing I did was bump up the tech slider 10% to knock a turn off Horseback Riding, as we have a decent amount of gold in our reserves.

Buddhism has spread to Hotbid, our borders have expanded, and a slave revolt is taking place. Exciting stuff.

After Horseback Riding finishes, I decide to tech to Metal Casting as I have a feeling we'll be at war for the better part of the game, so focusing on military techs seemed like the way to go. Someone also founded Christianity.

Oh goody, free stuff! Though I know the long run option probably would have been better, as it only affects the one library (please tell me it's only the one...) and it would take quite some time for it to really pay off, I went with the instant reward of 111 beakers to Metal Casting, which managed to shave a turn off research time. I must admit I just now thought of how multipliers might make it pay off a good deal faster, but lesson learned.

The Apostolic Palace has been finished, and as it's a religion we haven't had contact with, I'm assuming it's on another continent.

Time to go to war, but first I think I want to cover my ass with the other civs. Let's see if we can negotiate some peace. Especially with the stack Shaka has in our territory, not that we wouldn't have been able to deal with it.

Montezuma was willing to stop the fighting without any coercing, but Shaka wasn't as easy to deal with. I had to offer him Currency as a tribute for 10 turns of peace. While probably not the best trade, other civs have already reach Code of Laws, so I didn't see any immediate danger in trading it. To make up for it, I see what the other civs will offer me for it. Montezuma offered a measly 70 gold, but Darius was slightly more accommodating.

We just lost our one tie with Shaka... he's definitely going to come after us in the future. Darius is now pretty much the only one we even stand a chance of being on peaceful terms with.

Oh Montezuma, how I love you. At least you're on the other side of the continent, as far as I can tell.

Metal Casting finishes, and I decide to take a few turns to research Monarchy, so we can make use of all that wine we have in our territory. During the siege of Cuzco, we're granted a great general. The war ended that turn, so I didn't have anything to do with him. He's currently active in Constantinople, I think.

Victory!

And that's where I decided to end my turn, my thirst for blood sated.

Skirmishers can still make short work of Shaka's stuff at this point of the game. Why did you give him currency instead of just killing his stack on defense and maybe rebuilding a mine or two?

I vote hitting Shaka with a timing attack right after we get feudalism so we can vassalize his ass.

I had just PM'd BrownBear about an hour ago. Said if he couldn't get to it within the next day to let the next person on the list know their turn was up.

Agree, this succession game is really really slow. Maybe we should shorten the time to play to 24+48?

I'll second this, at least the confirmation should come withing 24 hours. Playtime+report can take up to 2 days, and people should be really more attentive to just say straight up if they want to pass their turn for this set of turns if it's a bad timing.

sorry guys. I wasn't expecting work to explode the way it did.

I'm working at least 16-17 hours a day for the next couple weeks or so, so I will need to take myself off the list, really sorry for slowing it down. I have PMed nosliw.

It's all good, man. Removed you from the list; if you want to be added back to it when your schedule clears up, just let me know. We'll see how the next few turns go.

I'm personally fine with a 4 day span, but only if they do their turns. What's been happening is someone confirms within the 2 days, has their 2 days to do a turn, then I PM them telling to get it out quick or pass, so we essentially have 4 days of nothing.

I want to focus on expanding and setting up our late-game econ by cottaging our major cities, so I switch production to settlers and workers.
But talk about unlucky timing... Montezuma's army finally arrived at our border. Being a lame commander, he just fortifies his stack with Jaguar (+30% defense in forests/jungles), making it hard for me to wipe them out.
Eventually I wiped them out using some small baits to lure the stack away from jungle/forests and was able to get some Priesthood tech from him.
War is over! I founded two new cities to block off Shaka's and Darius' expansion attempts. Things should start to roll after we get Civil Service because now our rice and corns will be irrigated, and our capital can be a monster production/commerce city with Bureaucracy.
We have quite a bit of land to backfill, also I've edited the city names of what I think each city should be:
$=commerce
P=production
GP=great people
Things for the next person: Cuzco right now is generating 50%prophet/50%merchant. If we can get a temple or two there and run priests specialists, we can increase the great prophet chance. We can use it to get our Buddhism Holy Shrine and power our econ. I also think we should send some spies to explore the land, especially Shaka's. Also, if we want to make Darius our friend, we might as well spread Buddhism to his cities.
