This was the world as I first laid eyes on it. Through lies, bribery and extortion I had raised to the throne, A green governor with a mind to wake up the veterans that dared waste their time in a game about the stars. Immediately I understood why such seasoned warriors would opt for an easier path. Our forces split and our knights with less than a tenth of their strength. The enemy on 3 sides of our main force and their spears in range to lay waste to our force and delay our plans of conquest indefinitely, there was no place to hide. Ondini will fall, I though cooly. I made my mind to remove most of our forces in the city, a pitiful bunch but it will suffice, and concentrate on the coastal borough that held most of the Zulu's army and siege weapons. A coordinated three-sided-attack must be effected. Our main force will come from western reinforcements, Ondini's garrison shall attack from the north and whatever troops our general in the east can spare will also be sent to the slaughter. I hurriedly forced our whole kingdom to aid in the war effort. I removed forces from every city that could spare them, I upgraded them with more recent weaponry, In a single stroke I nearly halved our vaults. Fitting it was, the west was growing too fat and greedy with them. I woke our navy and set them to sail towards the opposite side of the ocean. Mayhaps they will find the other end of the world before the other galley does. A pitiful fate but there is nowhere to run Taking the city with the ridiculous name will not suffice. The southern city of Bulawayo controls their iron deposits, a most crucial element that has proven once and again a terror to our mounted knights. Our general will have to split from his healthy forces. A suicide mission to take the city is the only way to ensure the quickest victory. If the gods are on our side it will be the only iron in Zululand. Against all odds, 2 macemen units, 1 group of knights and a single catapult captured the capitol. Our forces are weak however and they have no experience in defending a city. If the Shaka Zulu decides to retake it, he will not be strongly opposed. Hopefully we have destroyed enough of the city's culture to prevent the recapture of the iron mines. I considered for a moment to raze it since the barbaric city had nothing especial to it. But I finally decided that if the star gazing rulers of the future wanted it dead they could starve it to death. The city looms about its doom In a coordinated attack that would put Subutai to shame. We captured uMgungundlovu and connected the west with the east. I considered razing it too, but I have a soft spot for having more people to kneel to me and outrageous maintenance costs. Perhaps one of the following leaders can build a forbidden city in one of these colonies. Perhaps now we can oblige the earlier ruler that asked to change the city's name. I recommend Cloudograd to remind everyone of its greatness. Ondini fell as predicted, their forces too great our pitiful garrison would have made no effect. We will retake it in the following years as soon as our army is regrouped. Their fate is inevitable, the Zulus are the ones who chose to decimate their own people. Meanwhile, some useless fools that were helping nothing in our conquests offered to increase our culture, their other reward was nothing useful either. They will be spared this time. Our previous leader had ordered our scientists to automatically research for some tree lover's technology. I chose to amuse him. Scribes will not win this war, whatever advances they will make in warfare will be too far from my time. Now I turn my eyes to the far east, we will capture as many capitals as the Zulu can spawn. Our vessel found that the north was sealed by land. No matter, as there were two others that are finding a path due south. Another general to aid us in our conquest of the east! Her time will come soon. Our scribes had convinced me that if we built spies we could fix our cultural deficiency in Khangela by spreading it in the Persian city of Istakhr, they were fools and I had them executed. And now thanks to my actions our vaults are being filled again. A great prophet was born but I am a man of action and clueless as to what to do with him, I simply merged him with the Holy City. Our campaign in the east wields profit once more, we capture their cities incessantly, we plunder their vaults and spread our seed in their women. Their second capitol brought an unexpected reward: an army of workers at our disposal, they will have to wait until the war is over however, and considering the increasing gout, they will outlive my reign as well. The rest of the continent will echo his sentiment in the coming future I directed our scholars to pursue Nationalism, I was upset that we didn't posses the Pyramids, a more modern civic is in order. The Dutch wouldn't let us buy it from them at a reasonable price. They will suffer as now our navy is faster and our army is mightier. 100 years after my ascension, my rule is drawn to an end. We now dominate the whole southern part of the continent with no exceptions, I had the highest hopes that kwaHlomendlini would be the last capital of the Zulu, but the Persians, the treacherous dogs!, they let our enemy slip through and build a city on the other side of the continent. An unreachable conquest. I had dreamed of wiping their obscene civilization off the face of the gods, but now I have no choice but to force them to capitulate. Our citizens are becoming massively unhappy with our holy wars. The Zulu gave us complete knowledge of the rest of the continent and some petty treasures, we can know trade for a world map with the puny civilizations across the ocean. The Persians will pay for this insurmountable treachery in due time. My last efforts are now to bring back our force to the west, there are two barbarian thorns that need to be taken care of. I have already lost too many knights with them, hopefully my successor will manage their razing better. The tension is growing with the Aztecs and now their borders are right next to us. The peace with the Persians will not last forever. On a side note, I had pursued to complete our quest to build the 11 coliseums, with over 20 cities that is an easy task, our cities are already instructed to build the remaining ones. Soon our civilization will reap the rewards. The treacherous dogs dare to ask us for help! They will die soon, our coming civics will see to that. This is our kingdom from above Our next ruler must know how to manage us in peace.

So, one of the first things that happened was a trade offer from the Dutch. I really wanted the world map so we could gain more knowledge of the situation on that continent, so I ended up giving him our map and 150 gold. It may have not been the best of trades, but I feel like we got a fair bit of information from it. We have the gold to spare, so I wasn’t too concerned about the cost. We got a random improvement for one of our tiles, which I guess is pretty cool. I gave the Zulu music since they’re our vassal and weren’t threatening us. It shouldn’t be too bad since they’ve only got one city left and I’d like to be friendly with them. Met Ceasar, pretty exciting. We finished the Colosseum challenge. I wasn’t really sure what to choose here. We had the choice between +1 happiness in cities with a colosseum, +4 culture, or a golden age. I picked culture because I favor it for no good reason. If anyone would like to explain the advantages and disadvantages of that I would be interested in hearing how to make that sort of decision. Got open borders with the Russians. And that was my turn. Not a lot since I only played half a turn worth, but I couldn’t take moving workers around for another hour when I’ve got work in the morning. Here’s the world after my turns. The borders of the new cities are starting to expand and we’re hopefully going to be able to fill out the eastern coast soon enough. Here's the save. + Show Spoiler + http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YE9RHJPP Edit: Oh yeah, sent PM to banana. Almost forgot.

If anyone would like to explain the advantages and disadvantages of that I would be interested in hearing how to make that sort of decision. +4 culture from colosseums seems pretty pointless to me unless you're going for a cultural win (and maybe not even useful then, I dunno, never gone culture myself) or are playing a self-imposed variant where culture is more important than normal. They're expensive, theatres are not (and if you have dyes theatres are just better period), and if you're fighting for tiles in your fat cross artists and theatres and possibly religion are pretty much always enough and a better investment. +1 happy from colosseums isn't bad if you have lots of big cities, but I'd almost always take the golden age since colosseums aren't really a good building to begin with and golden ages are very nice. But from reading the thread it doesn't sound like it really matters too much, you look to have a lead and should just grow it as time goes on.

Meanwhile war isn’t going great for Darius. He just lost a city to the Aztec. Rifling is complete and I’ve opened the coffers to upgrade our troops. With help of our new weaponry the barbarians are conquered and I’ve ordered the army to march east. Montezuma and Daruis sign peace. Good now we can pick them one at a time. We got a Great Artist and I’ve moved him to rest at the capital, waiting for a future use. WAR! The time is right! The Aztec shall fall! Our troops are ready and thrust for battle. The plunder will be good and we need to secure this continent fast as the riches overseas await. Tlacopan fell immediately to the cavalry blitz. Navigation opened the trade routs across the ocean. We managed to secure Spices and Ivory from the Dutch, but the rest civilizations are too poor to exploit. My rule has finished as the army boldly marches north to the Aztec capitol. Texcoco has fallen and we are yet to suffer a loss on the battlefield. Our scout report the enemy is weak and ready to capitulate. But we should keep pressing as our researchers are focused on getting us the Cannon to conquer the rest of the world. Save file: + Show Spoiler + [url blocked] PM sent to Biochemist.
