Clearly something is holding things up; I'll PM him. I'm normally on top of it, but have had an absolutely shitty month thus far and haven't been able to keep up with things.

Will let him either pass or take his turn this time, but I think that in the future should someone confirm their turn and not complete it within the allotted time, without a heads up, should be remove from the roster.

I'm really sorry about the delay. I played my turn and then proceeded to have computer problems that I just got resolved.

Anyway, the events of my turns.....

So the first few turns I played weren't very eventful. I attacked the barbarian city with a horse archer and lost a 70%+ fight. I then decided that we couldn't let the AI take that city, so I moved some forces toward it. In the mean time, another barb city popped up, close to the first. We definitely can't afford to let the AI get that land.

Civil Service finishes, so I start on feudalism, to get us on the path toward banking and gunpowder and all of those cool things.

I tried to trade techs with Darius (since no one else was willing), but ultimately he couldn't make it worth our while. I accidentally let Cuzco go one turn with automatically assigned specialists (scientists in this case) but I get priests the next turn to hopefully get us back on track.

Zulu demands Code of Law, but I'm not about to give him anything for free.

We get a random event, and I take the free 259 beakers and keep our gold. (Which is the option not rolled-over in the screen shot.)

Montezuma declares war on Darius, which makes me breath a sigh of relief, since him and Shaka had seemed to be gearing up for war.

Our great person pops in Cuzco, but we get a Merchant. I'm not sure what to do with him, so I just moved him to Holy City, and the next person can choose, and maybe we can get a little advise from people here in the thread about what to do with him.

Bandits or something happen... We aren't using that spearman, so I volunteer him to clean things up.

Shaka declares war on us. >_> This catches me slightly off-guard, so I pull our army back from barb territory, where I had been trying to get in a good position to take that city, but the archers on the hill city, just never gave us a good shot.

Feudalism finishes, so I start longbowmen everywhere.

People want lots of colosseums, but right now we can't really appease them, maybe after this war....

We random event a rep decrease with Darius, the only AI we have a shot at being friendly with.... I choose the option that mitigates the damage the most.

And here's the world as I left it. We're probably in a little worse spot militarily than when I started, but I went pretty hard in most other aspects, so we're a ways out in front in score now.

You can make a TON of money with a great merchant if you send him to a faraway capital.
It's easier not to.

A little tip: if you refuse a demand from an aggressive leader, you can pretty much expect a declaration of war within 10 turns (depending on how ready they are for said war).

To add on to this tip, next time you refuse a demand, go into the AI's trading screen and highlight someone in the "declare war on" options. If the AI isn't at war with someone already and it says "We have too much on our hands already", it's very likely that they are planning to declare war on you after they prepare.

After the resign of the previous leader, a general, eager to strike, went to lead the armies of Teamliquid against the Zulu horde.

He knew it wasn't going to be easy. The Zulus were massing near Timbuktu and the defense there was light. He ordered the city leaders to make the slaves work harder in order to build walls and more bows for the soldiers. During this time, the bulk of the malinese army was moving towards a zulu city in an attempt to counter-attack.

The persian folk then called for our help. The general decided to let them use the entirety of the food reserves in Cuzco. We needed some allies or at least no more enemies.

During this time, the zulu army was getting bigger and bigger, but the defense was starting to organize itself. Soldiers from all over the country were moving towards the city in an attempt to thwart Shaka's ambitions.

Once again, the persian called for help against the aztecs. This time, unfortunately, the general had to decline. Fighting two wars at a time is something only a madman would do. The aztecs then asked him to join them against the persian. Same question, same answer.

2 or 3 turns after, we heard of a mediator managing to stop the struggle between Aztecs and Persians. Much ado about nothing.

Discovering the secrets of machinery, the sages then tried to think of a way to group people of same trades together. The general was quite happy to turn axes into maces.
(only upgraded the great general axeman to a maceman)

After losing track of a spy that was deep into enemy territory, the malinese army then attacked, bombarding the city of Khangela and razing it in the end, but not without losing some inexperienced men and all the catapults in the struggle.

The general didn't know that it was a strategic blunder. He thought he could rally Timbuktu before it fell, but It was when he approached the city that he saw the malinese flags falling and being replaced by those of his archenemy ! He knew that the fight had been hard. There were the same amount of malinese and zulu corpses around the city, but the zulus had outnumbered the defense and killed every soldier without pity.

When the sages discovered the Guilds system, a mediator appeared to calm the struggle between Shaka and the general. Hearing about that, the general banned the mediator from the country, considering this war to be over only at the recovery of Timbuktu.

After a short struggle against weary Zulu soldiers, the malinese army then liberated the city of Timbuktu. After this conquest, the general then resigned, feeling the weight of the years.

Well, I made a mistake thinking that Shaka would wait for me to come back before capturing Timbuktu. In the end, he lost a lot of troops because of that (He attacked before the defensive bonus was totally nullified) and the city has been retaken so all in all it's not that big of a deal.

Here is the malinese empire in 1250 A.D. Didn't have the time to destroy the barb cities but nobody captured them either so...

I don't know what to say to the next player. Maybe it's a good time to make a big stack of doom© and wreak havoc in Zululand.

Started to research banking, but gunpowder is an option (only 2 turns of research made on banking)

We probably couldn't have held both that city and Timbuktu. Better to just make off with the gold and worry about capturing the land when we come back later with macemen/trebs. It's not like Shaka is going to keep that land much longer.

Sorry for the delay, I've been driving back and forth across the state to visit my family and get back to work. Anyway, here's the report.

It was kind of an eventful turn, but filled with mostly the same thing. Shaka kept sending waves of catapults and horse archers to Timbuktu. The catapults in our city were used to run down the strength of the units. After a bit Shaka just ran them into our units and we only lost a few catapults and maybe a unit or two throughout my turn. Here's an example of this great excitement.

We got a great general. I attached it to a catapult to get extra collateral damage. Worked out pretty well with the waves of stacks coming in.

We got a great prophet from our great person farm up north. I moved it down to our holy city and built the Mahbodhi for some extra money and culture.

Now, after battling with Shaka for a while the stacks are becoming smaller and he's transitioning into using more impis than horse archers. In the meantime, we're coming closer and closer to gunpowder. Shaka built a city on top of the copper to our east not too long before this screen capture.

I moved a knight up into Shaka's territory to do some recon and harass his improvements. It managed to take out a catapult in the process before being brought down by an impi. Darius made this deal and I accepted. He's not going to really be able to go after us with longbowmen and we need to keep Darius on our side as much as possible. He's our bff at an awesome score of -3.

Not too long after that Montezuma offered this deal that I decided was best to refuse.

Gunpowder was discovered. It was pretty exciting. I started engineering next to head towards pikemen to help with the calvary units that Shaka has been focusing on on.

After that, Shaka sent another big stack towards Timbuktu.

But it was taken care of pretty easily. We lost a few catapults in the process, but there are more building in other cities to reinforce once they pop. I sent a few macemen toward Shaka's city on the copper. He doesn't have too many units there currently, so hopefully he won't have time to reinforce it. It's not in the best location, so it may just be best to burn it down and keep more money in research for now.
