Sorry for taking so long for my turn guys. I had to move across state and start my internship, which was every so slightly time consuming.

So, starting off with the plan to take out Justinian with our awesome axemen. It sounds pretty easy right? But first, our scouting warrior in the north meets Montezuma.

Then not so good news, Justinian has a Chariot outside of our borders which have +100% attack against axemen. If he has a lot of these we're in big trouble.

So, to respond to this, I switched our research to Hunting to get spearmen to help support the axemen, temporarily delaying Writing and Open Borders. Seems fair enough to me. A little bit later, Buddhism spread to our land, making our people a bit happier.

After that our spearmen get started building while the worker keeps chopping to get units out faster. I'm trying to clear out good spots for cottages/farms by the rivers so we can build them later. Then, some random guy decides he knows exactly how big each civ is. We're pretty small at the moment...

But I did start researching archery so we can defend our cities when we do go to war. I moved our three axemen and one spearman to the edge of Justinian's borders to get ready to pillage and have vision of where we are headed. TIME FOR WAR!

Pasture pillaged and there's only one archer on the city. We're on top right? Maybe not, Shaka doesn't like us anymore and declared war on us.

Well, that's fine I guess. He's got a ways to travel to get to us, and I wasn't really planning on moving units his way. If we play decent defense it shouldn't be too big of a deal I think... But then again, we do have a new city to take care of.

I lost two of the axemen which certainly wasn't optimal, but that left an axeman and spearman to defend. Hopefully it was worth the loss for the overall benefit. Huayna Capac wants open borders to keep exploring, fine by me. No need to make any more civs angry.

And I leave you with archers (Skirmishers) building/finishing, and with more war than you could ever want. I started iron working so we can see iron if we want to expand, and if we want need swordsmen after we find iron. I wasn't sure exactly what was best to research or what we're going for.

I guess from here I might want to lean towards playing defensive, but taking the other city Justinian has could be good as well...

I'll PM banana right after I post this.

I recommend alphabet over ironworking. You can usually trade alphabet for ironworking, and you can extort tech from your victims.

AI highly prioritize iron working, mathematics, monarchy in the classical era, so it's often easier to just trade for one or more of them with a tech they don't have.

The build order for an axe rush is 2 cities, 3 workers. One worker to improve/chop at each city, and a 3rd worker to build a road to your target, then chop more.

Need to scout more, distance to enemies dictates whether you pursue war or peaceful expansion.

Seems war is upon us, with a small skirmish party we move out north to scout out the region, what we find is not so pleasant.. a monster of a city defended upon a hill by archers with hill or city def bonusses. Breaking this seems nearly impossible with our current technology.

Scouting what Hyuan Capac is up to. Manage to capture an offguard worker around the byzantine capital wanderin around from the north. Interesting, time for some investigation.

2 wars, and the barbarians find the perfect oppertunity to start flooding in. Lucky they are heavily underdeveloped, quick whipping for some fast defenses at home.

Razing all the food production while moving northwards with the scouting party, seems we found another city. 2 poor warriors defending only.

Time for the worker to take those warriors down! Combat training boys.

In the meantime, seems other civilizations are creating some wonders for us to capture later.

Northern city gets razed, very bad location and the upkeep for keeping/defending it properly would be too much of an impact. Strategicly I found it pretty good to enclose justian, but seems it will be irrelevant considering we will probably want to overthrown him in a later stage of the game, crippeling him for now should be a good approach with our military advantage.

As Iron working finished, it becomes bit tricky here. 2 Civilizations seem to have alphabet already, including Justian. Crippeling him enough should give us the oppertunity to get a peace treaty and alphabet.

Aesthetics is picked up in the meantime for potential heroic epic. I don't think this was the best move, but considering AI usually does not research aesthetics, it will be great for trading for everything else.

Another city found, not amazing odds this time, but should be fine. One axeman falls in battle.

Awesome, worker and good amount of booty. City is again very badly positioned, time to raze it.

And another worker! Feeling kind of silly now considering I started making one a while ago. Well more never hurts I guess.

Making peace with Shaka, war declaration really didn't make sense from him except him beeing bribed, distance is way too great to cover.

Upon passing the turn, seems one of our city's is in revolt. Should be fine considering it wasn't too important.

Justian is also refusing to sign a peace treaty in return for alphabet after losing 3 city's and having nothing at all left. Not sure how to proceed now, if just signing peace would be good, or just use our military advantage and surround his city/prevent tiles to be upgraded/worked.

I've decided to start building a settler now, maybe a good idea to make one more, north east from our capital seems the perfect location to continue expanding, including some iron and good amounts of commerce/food. Great thing beeing also that that part is mostly excluded from other civilizations so we can really get a good infrastructure setup before our technology catches up to overthrow Justian.

Up to you what happends here, I would just advice against attacking that city he's in now, it's just suicide. Grabbing those gold tiles can jumpstart our tech/economy greatly.

After the great military campaing versus the Byzantine, all I'm left to do is rally the troops on their capital. In the domestics I'm switching the research to Mathematics and start building settlers to expand our territory. All the captured workers are marched to the motherland.

After some heavy losses Contintanople is captured and the Byzantines destroyed.

We still have a stron army as the gurard on the east border are now joining the main army. I give them a needed rest while looking for a nearby targer to sink their teeth into.

We get access to iron. But I prefer to expand our empire peacefully for now.

The march throught the north jungles is over. We are at the Inca's borders. Sound the horns of War! We go in to destroy and pillage. On the next year brought the news that the Zulu have been bribed to attack us once more.

Our conquest is glorious as Tiwanky is raized.

My reing ends with a lot of land around us to expand. No army is weary after the fighhting but it will hold for several more years as a general is on the way to boost it's power. Some barbarians are lurking near our towns, but training a new force should push them out and prevent the Zulu for making any more claims on our teritory.

Oh wow you capped the city, unexpected, seemed too well defended so great job there.

- How did you figure out how much you needed to kill off their fortified stacks btw? Would love to learn that.

Depends on the situation. But if you have a good 4-5 catapults/Trebuchets, you can usually take a city 1:1 on unit distribution. It's all about percentages, upgrades, and timing. Early game, if you have a lot of of Swordsman with upgrades, you can usually get a +40% to attacking a city against Archers that only get a 45% bonus to defense. So it basically turns into a 6 vs 3 (unless on a hill) Of course, most computers have a good mix of Axemen, Spearmen, and Archers.

Alright, sorry this took so long! I didn't attempt to capture Cuzco since the archers there had a 95% defense bonus.

Starting out, I noticed some barbarian axemen heading down towards Liquidia. I decided to whip the axeman there to make sure our gold mine didn't get razed.

Some guy named Herodotus publishes an encyclopedia of the largest nations in the world, and we come in number three! Huayna Capac comes in 6th, but I'm pretty sure we can knock him down a little lower than that if we keep trying.

A Settler finishes in Thessalonica, and I start building a lighthouse because there isn't much in the way of potential farmland here and there are a lot of coastal tiles nearby. Too bad there aren't any crabs or fish.

I used the settler that was already out to found Chemistville here. Seemed like a decent spot for a production city, what with all the hills and stuff. It might be a good idea to chop the forests here to help get the granary/library finished, as it doesn't have a whole lot going for it in its initial square.

Action shot of a spearman getting his ass kicked by a chariot. Don't worry, his buddies got revenge. I killed a lot of chariots roaming around in the jungle.

After chickening out on attacking the capital, I moved east and sacked Ollanaihwefbalskdcv. There's another new city south of this one, but it was defended by some particularly strong archers and taking this city out cut it off from potential supplies/trade.

Montezuma converts to Confucianism and declares war. We don't care, he's on the other side of the continent. For Buddha! (lol)

There was a small revolt in Constantinople; I elected for the middle option, since it only cost 10 gold and saved a population point. Will have to make sure they stay properly whipped in the future!

The guerrilla army took a few losses attacking Machu Picchu, but all that's left there now is one of those unique warrior guys and we still have a few city attack axemen there. Should be a piece of cake on the next turn, and after it goes down we might be able to get alphabet in exchange for peace. If not, there's always more stuff around Cuzco to burn and pillage, and after construction finishes we can just outright destroy him.

Since currency is done now, it might be a good idea to get markets up in our commerce cities.

I should add that Shaka has been at war with us for awhile now, and hasn't really attacked yet. It might be a good idea to start reinforcing our cities on the east before he rolls in with a stack or two.

Wanted to play right away, but couldn't, will play and report tommorow.

Btw. do you think markets are good choice right now, seems to me they are not worthy (too long to build, little gain because of low commerce and high science rate, in war with 2 neighbours). I'm definitely going to strengthen our defenses and get cats to kick some ass
