Okay then! Before you start, the setting for the project is important, like if you start your video with standard tv.aspect ratio make sure all your clip are set to that setting or if it's widescreen. I used wide screen so on the project video properties, I used these setting. http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/4838/22785793.jpg
Not sure if you know these but if you do, I don't want to explain it. Do you know how to import video/image/music files into vegas and drag them into the timeline to use it? I'll start with some stuff you need to know. Say you drag a 5 minute video but you only want the part from 3:50-4:00. You can manually go to 3:50 of that video then press "S". S will cut that video apart, then you can press delete of the part you don't want to use. Now you have 10 sec but in order to sync it better to the music, you want it to last to 12 sec. And maybe if you expand(Do you know how to expand video, make it longer?) that video clip to 12 sec, you will see something you don't want like a extra person or in that last 2 sec or there's nothing to see. You can just go back to the 10 sec and hold "Ctrl" then expand the clip to 12 sec. It slows the 10 sec video clip so it lasts 12 sec on the same clip. It's slow motion. of course if you hold "Ctrl" and shorten instead of expand the video clip. 10 Sec clip Hold ctrl to shorten it to 5 sec clip. that 10 sec will be shown in a spam of 5 sec. That's speeding up aka fast motion.
I'll explain Pan/Event/Crop, Keyframe and Cookie Cutter then I'll show you how to do a certain effect. For Pan/Event/Crop, after you drag your video/image,Click on the pan/event/crop, I pin pointed it on the image. Then you'll see a new window come out. Make sure you set the preset to 16 Widescreen or the setting you start with at the project properties. http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/4028/80999196.jpg After that click on the open white space with the dots, and scroll your mouse up and down, you'll see the image shrinking or expanding on that window depending on you scroll it up or down. Anyway you'll see a giant F in blue, that's the stuff you see in the preview. whatever that is shown on that giant F is the stuff shown on the preview screen. Go to the corner of the image being shown and stretch it. Play around with it. Look at the preview screen as you play around to see the effects.http://img39.imageshack.us/i/80838555.jpg/ Now the image is only in the middle, but you can positional it to be on the top right, left or bottom. Just click on the Giant F and hold onto that click and move your mouse around. Now you can put the image anywhere you want. I think that's it for event pan crop. Keyframe- Keyframe is that diamond look alike thing. You can add as many keyframe as you want by click on the keyframe timeline then move the image on the Giant F then a keyframe will be added. http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/4373/80529183.jpg Keyframe is like your first key frame is your starting point and the 2nd keyframe will be the place you want the image to end up. Okay so you now have the 1st keyframe your image position on top right, then click on the keyframe timeline then move the image to bottom left. Now you added a 2nd keyframe but the image is at bottom left. Now play the video and see the effect. Make sure you move that 2nd keyframe a bit away from 1st one, so you can see the effect. http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/6425/63427797.jpg Try to play around with that. You can put the 2nd keyframe in mid then add a 3rd keyframe farther from 2nd keyframe and move the image to a different place. a 4th keyframe etc. PLAY AROUND with all the things I had say. I gotta go i'll come back to add other stuff. if you read it.. let me know if this description is any good.. and if you have any questions. It's probably a lot to grasp!

Okay for cookie cutter. That effect is under video fx tab. There are some preset setting that you can use, but I usually click on the reset to none and drag it onto the video to set my own setting. When you drag it to the video clip. On the preview screen, you probably see no change. On the pop up window with the cookie cutter effect, go change the size, then you'll notice the change. To recreate most of the effect, you probably want to change the shape to square. After you move the size down a bit, you'll see that the image is only in the middle. To change that go to the space that's on the left of the Size, you'll see a rectangle with white space and in the center there's this thing. You can click on that and move around it. Play with that a bit. To go back to the effect if you accidently except out that cookie cutter effect just click the green cross. It wasn't green before but it's green after you put an effect on it. http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/2549/57392369.jpg . When you move that thing to the left, the preview will show the clip on the left but the image will probably be different now, like it's not the image you had wanted to show. http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/3473/44521123.jpg. To make it show what you wanted to show, go back to the event/pan/crop of the video and move the Giant F, you should note the change. http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/1179/60151309.jpg. Notice that the cookie cutter effect also have keyframe stuff you can play with. Play around with it. Like on the 1st keyframe the size can be 0 then on the last keyframe make the size full size. Or 1st keyframe size full and last 0. 1st keyframe with 1 split then 2nd keyframe 2 split, stuff like that play around with it. If you gain the basic understanding of the three, the rest is easy. Remember to do this, you need multiple layers of video tracks. To make something like this, http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/8080/52686496.jpg First, you need one video to be on the left, you can easily do that using cookie cutter. Then add 3 more video tracks(just right click and add video track on your regular timeline). Then you can use Event/Pan/Crop on those video to shrink those videos to fit the screen where ever you want. To make the video move left or right up or down just use the keyframe effect. 1st keyframe stay where they are then on 2nd keyframe move the giant F up or down. I think that's it.. To make your video more flashy. add transitions that's under transition tab and put them to your video. To make it sync to the audio, just make sure your video end at the part of the audio you wanted to end. I THINK that's all... Let me know if there's something you are confuse or any questions.! Have fun O btw.. let you know if you want to know the settings I used to render my videos. It's HD quality.
