we're going to host similar tourneys in a near future with prize money again, so please stop complaining because you didn't get picked and consider yourself as good or better than one of the 4 teams in there...

Seems that they purely got in on name recognition. What have these players won in SC2 tournaments or show matches? In the ladder other players have been consistently above them. Even so will probably be a big event No this is exactly what's wrong with it - people not given a chance to prove themselves because people's friends or countrymen get invited every time and we see the same teams in every tournament. Not every invite tournament should invite the same 4 teams every time - as long as the host thinks it's going to produce good, competitive games there should be no requirements such as previous results. If it was based solely on reputation or name recognition like you say why would AU get in above the others you mentioned? Everyone knew the format of only 4 invited teams before this and it seems like it's more a case of spoiled, well-known teams who are used to being invited not getting invited and think they're hard done by instead of realising they have been done a favour to get invited every other time. On April 03 2010 08:47 dacthehork wrote: Yo, are you guys blind are you really complaining when there is a non invite tournament the day after this one with same format, that also happened the week before. Yeah no prize money but w.e it has an open field of 24 teams so far. I really wish they would just invite the top 4 teams from mine or something. That would be the worst. You want to make it as competitive as possible not just let in the same teams every time - although it's possible to cater to everyone in a way by inviting some by previous results, some by reputation and some to throw in a wildcard or competitive underdog. Also to make it worse (for this argument) that your tournament seeds the best known/previous winning teams so that makes it even more likely that the same teams will get through again.

Winning one for-fun showmatch by a small margin and getting to a RO8 isn't really getting your name out there - how popular are the RO8 entrants from MSL or OSLs on the merit of making the RO8 alone? If you've consistently won these things or have had one huge victory in a well-known, competitive tournament you'd have a good chance of being invited I imagine. Similarly if you've played with the host before and he knows that you have a very competitive team who is a strong chance for the cup then likewise you will have more chance of an invite. Making top8 or top4 or something in the first of a for-fun tournament isn't "proving yourself" yet - give it more time. Stick at it, I know I am trying to help this process along too with encouraging people I know are good to sign up to things and letting them know of all the tournaments but I am not getting angry when they aren't picked just because I know they are good enough.

1. The "GG Rule" - The losing player must signify his defeat by typing "GG" before leaving the game. Failure to do so will result in the disqualification of you and your team from the tournament and a temporary ban from future events. Can we call this the Idra rule? Please? In seriousness, though, I think more tournaments should make this a rule. I think with SC2 there is a real opportunity for countries outside of Korea to become truly involved in esports. I mean, if there is someone who works in the advertising department for a big company, how can you not see the potential in these bigger tournaments? When there is already big money tournies in the BETA stages of a game. But back to my original thought, if foreigners actually want to have a real esports scene, they need to start getting serious about their tournies. Now I don't know if forcing a GG is the perfect way to do this, but it is a step in the direction of "professionalizing" the foreigner esports scene. So good work on that.

So good work on that. its utterly retarded, it entirely defeats the purpose. people get upset about it because its like a handshake after a sports match, it shows respect for your opponent. mandating it makes it meaningless. "oh idra said gg this time he must respect his opponents now!" no, i still think theyre terrible and retarded, i just have to say it to get the money.

Have to agree with IdrA 100%, I find gg unnecessary but perhaps you could just say 'bm in the game lobby or in-game results in team DQ' and leave it to the discretion of the admins.
