Ok, uhh, so summer break is down for us and it's pretty boring. I can't play much StarCraft since sometimes the net is a bit slow and I can't get those smooth games. The pc I use to run the PS3 also broke down (thanks to my siblings, we don't have a tv so...I think I'll have time to fix it tomorrow...
So I tried to get some FPS games for our laptop to no avail.
First for safety, we managed to download Counter Strike with a mod so my siblings were pretty happy about it. Then I tried to get CS: Source but it's really a bitch since the first time around the screen would load and then it would turn black and play rock music with a barely visible small equalizer in the middle of the screen. The second one was Russian.
So any recommendations for a good FPS? Please give something that would be close to reality..:D
The laptop is Acer Aspire 5540 Specs as below
* Intel ® Centrino™ Duo Mobile Technology - Intel ® Core ® Duo Processor T2050 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB) - Intel ® 945GM Express Chipset - Integrated Intel ® Pro/Wireless 3945BG * Integrated Bluetooth™ * 1GB DDR2-533 (Max 4GB) * 80GB ( 5400rpm) , Weight 2.35kg. * DVD-Super Multi double layer * 56K Fax/Modem, 10/100Mbps LAN * 14.1" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite TFT LCD (1280x800 pixel)
My siblings aren't really into competitive gaming so playing and having fun with bots are ok for them.
Thanks guys.
and oh, if you could and I'll be grateful, oh shit good thing I read the rules again, must not ask for torrent links for those games in any way. I'll just go find them myself then..

There isnt much of a variety to play on that laptop to be honest. I'll be surprised if maybe Call of Duty runs well on that.

Most Medal of honor games run on low resolutions just fine

Deus Ex maybe?
Sure it looks kinda meh now and the combat is a bit clunky but otherwise it has aged beautifully.
Then theres also operation flashpoint which still stands as one of the finest squad based FPS games out there(its combat is also pretty damn realistic).

I know you want something closer to reality but let's be honest the Quake series is like the ultimate time killer when it comes to FPSs. iD did an amazing job on these games so they'll run really smooth on even on low end computers.

Quake is defiantely awesome.
Fun fact for Quake 2, there is like some easter egg where if you type "set game weapons" or something in the console, all the guns have special abilities so for example,
Supershotgun would also act as a freeze gun Gernades have 8 different types such as napalm, plasma, etc.
but back on topic,
Fun FPS for me was Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory.
Free, fun to play.
Hard to get skilled in, and no single player. Only multi.
Another fun game was Gunz. But I don tknow if they still have that now a days...

ET is absolutely awesome, god I miss that game.
My recommendation (albeit not close to reality) would be Quakelive www.quakelive.com Free to play, with various game types, ctf, duel, team death match, clan arena and more

If you're looking for an FPS without too heavy on the graphics side, I'd recommend Sudden Attack.
It's mostly free, you have to earn points for some of the really good weapons (but not imbalanced that the free weapons are bad)

If you want something competitive I strongly recommend promode.org aka "CPMA", a mod for Quake 3. I spent a couple years playing this nonstop and the never-ending challenge is the only FPS game with skill depth I think is comparable to BW. Warning: if you're new, you'll get brutalized really hard for your first many games, because there are so many skills it's very hard for noobs to catch up (just like in SC)
