I'm getting huge flashbacks. From my first trip to the Roskilde Festival back in... 05 I think. Flogging Molly wasnt there but that's the first time I came in contact with the bands music. I was just chillin' out with a girl I had met earlier that evning and she had her stereo with her. So suddenly the music shifted to flogging molly. My mind was blown away after one song. I asked her the name of the band but she didn't know. It was her friends mix CD. So we listend to flogging molly all trough the night and the first thing I did when I got home, never met the girl or her friend again (shit happens after a drunken night of sex), was to get on the internet and go to a forum I was on alot and asked if anyone knew what band it was. My only description was "wierd irish punk/rock/folk music". After like a day someone was able to find me the bandname. Flogging Molly. For weeks it was the only thing I listend to. I've always been a fan of irish music but this was just beond anything I've ever heard. And to this day when I hear "Requiem for a dying song" I think of Roskilde. All the fun me and my friends had.
And when the song switches to "Swagger" I dream back to the summer of 08 when I got a chanse to see Flogging Molly live for the first time in my live. I had just moved to a new town during the winter a long distance from home, and while reading a free newspaper I by chanse came over this small small ad saying "Flogging Molly is in town 6 months from now". Now i realized that there wouldn't be a fast sellout of the tickets but I still got them the day they were released. There was NO way I was gonna miss this. My new friends were all lame and refused to go so I said fuck it, I'll go alone. Which I did. I was there early and got the 3rd spot in the line, infront of me a young couple and we started talking. They were fucking awesome and so was the people behind us in line. We shared a joint about an hour before the concert began. I still talk to all of them via MSN.
I was prepaired for a great show, I mean I had been to Roskilde a couple of times. I've been infront of the stage when Guns'n'roses played, I've been there when Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing. This was a smaller venue but I was convinced it was gonna be in the same league. It wasnt. It was far far better then anything I've ever been to earlier. I wore a thin t-shirt cause I was conviced it would be hot in there, when I got out I WAS FUCKING SOAKING IN SWEAT. I had been infront of the stage. I had been in the moshpit and I almost died a couple of times due to dehydration (I was actually sober, only drank water). So I had to go out. To get some air and a smoke. Managed to bum a smoke from a older man in his... 40's I'd guess. And he told me about how this was the craziest show he had ever gone to. And he had gone to quite alot of concerts (can't remember any of them, he mentioned a few, was quite impressive).
Before the show, as I was talking to all the people around me, we each chose a song we wanted to hear. I picked "The Seven Deadly Sins". At the end I was so fucking happy with the concert but felt that the song was missing from the playlist. So they came back for a extra-number. They played one song and we got them out one more time. Within 1 second of them starting playing I knew that this was it. The Seven Deadly Sins. I went fucking mental. I was close to having tears running down my face because i was so happy. I gave everything I had. Every single piece of energy I had left went into jumping, screaming and singing along.
Then, as I thought the experiance couldn't get any better, what to they do? Do they do as every other band and get off stage? No they fucking went down into the crowd. They started greeting people. Had a beer with everyone. I stayed for like 30 minutes, thats when they went backstage. So I go outside, and there they are again. Just jamming. Like 50 people, including me and my new friends, stayed behind and I had the first beer of the night with flogging molly, I WAS DRINKING WITH FLOGGING MOLLY. After an hour of that they had to go to their next location, so they wrapped up and headed home. So did I, and I have never had such a huge smile on my face. I could've died right at that moment and said it would've been worth it.
Do you guys have any similar flashbacks while listening to a specific song?
