So I got platinum ranking when I started playing with an 8-2 score, and for the next 5-10 games I was actually in a lot of very close games and it was pretty exciting. Except when I played against a Protoss (PvP), in which case I usually lost. Wasn't that many games to sample from, but it was certainly the matchup I felt least comfortable with, not really having an idea of what would be an efficient build.
Fastforward a bit, and I didn't get to play much at all this week due to school. Today I finally got a chance to hop on and play some games. 6 damn PvP in a row, and I only win one of them. The first 2 were my first games in a week and were against the same guy (who was clearly better than me). The next one I lost to 4-gate all-in zeals. I promptly looked up proper walling defenses and won game 4 (though he didn't all in zeals) partially because of it. I then lost the next 2 in very close games, the first with base trading and the second with a 200/200 army clash with me losing more units and him being way behind in expos (unfortunately he did the right thing and abused his unit advantage when he had it).
Overall, I felt pretty fairly matched despite the scores and despite the fact that I had to play exclusively PvPs. But not the system, I instead got bumped down to Gold league. Now, it may turn out thats probably where I belong at this stage anyway (and when the full game is released and stronger players join, I fully expect to be even lower), but its really annoying to be judged exclusively on my worst match-up and and a bad streak of games.
Losing positions in the ladder wouldn't bother me at all. I can always make visual progress back up after bad streaks. But being moved a league is a considerably more daunting and ego bruising event. Who knows how many games I'd have to win to make it back into platinum? Its a difficult goal to quantify, I can't simply look at my ELO score or see any progress. I just have to have faith that if I win enough I'll be moved back up.
Anyways, I'm more or less just venting. I never thought I was a platinum player in the first place, but I do feel a little cheated with how I got moved down. I would have felt much better about it if I could have at least have been given more matchups or a larger set of games to prove I'm clearly not good enough. Bleh.

Why does it matter if you "get judged on your worst match up." It's not like the Beta is some qualifying ladder. If you are in Gold then just own up Gold and move back up. If you can't, you belong in Gold.

Basically you had bad luck with matchups (or not even bad luck since the word is most people play protoss but anyways) and got moved down and this annoys you?
Fully understandable but your title suggests that you feel that one conclusion could be drawn is that there's something wrong about what happened when in fact this is not much to care about at all as Hot_Bid said...
Or do you have some kind of change in mind? To be fair bnet can't have everyone play every matchup and every map in every possible combination just because someone could've had bad luck with maps or bad matchups or [insert something]

No like I said, I'm more or less just venting. I actually think its kind of necessary, particularly in the beginning of the ladder when there is a large influx of people, or a lot of people suddenly get used to the game and skill shifts happen pretty quickly. I have no problem being in gold, was just frustrated with the circumstances. I would have felt a lot better about it if I had gotten a chance to play more games before it moved me down, or more matchups. Of course it would be awesome if it could take into account specific game statistics as well to judge how close the games were. I'm not expecting or asking for any of that though, which is why I posted this as a blog instead of a SC2 thread.

LOLLLLLLLL pvp is easy bro just mass zeals and if ur opponent doesnt match ur unit count he is vulnerable didnt you play pvp in sc1 bro lol the entire match up is about matching unit count and microing imo its one of the best match ups in starcraft

Don't think any of my PvPs have been like that in the least, either when I win or I lose. I usually lose to tech units, barring all-ins.
edit: Although don't get me wrong, it does usually come down to micro, just not huge zealot battles. Often zealot, stalker, colossus, immortal balls though, with some sentry's thrown in for good measure. Just my experience at least.

Got 2 more PvPs in gold, totalling 8 in a row. If there is one complaint I would actually try to press here, it should be some control over the matches you are going to be playing. I'd rather search for 20 minutes if thats what it takes than play my 8th PvP in a row on the ladder. I don't mind mass gaming in customs with friends/practice partners, but its really kind boring for it to happen in ladder. Need some diversity!

I wonder what the stats look like if they say how many registered users in beta are p vs t vs z vs random vs undeclared.
