hey guys im new to this "LoL", from what i've seen its something like HoN?
I've never played HoN, but I did play a good deal of DotA, the predecessor of both HoN and LoL. These are the most notable differences between LoL and DotA, IMO:
- LoL allows you to reconnect to matches you've disconnected from, and even gives your hero a 'Teleport Home' command as soon as it notices you've disconnected.
- Somewhat less crowd-control. You can still get crowd controlled to death depending on the enemy team composition in LoL, but there are big differences anyway: Whereas in DotA, Balanar could silence you for 8 seconds with a skill, the LoL equivalent is Soraka's Infuse, which deals 250 damage and a 3 second silence; where in DotA the Tidehunter could stun your entire team for 2.25 seconds with his ultimate, Amumu's ultimate in LoL is very similar but it only prevents the enemies from moving and attacking, not from casting; finally, if the enemy team is going heavy on crowd-control, you can buy Mercury Treads in LoL, which reduce the duration of crowd controls by 40%.
- LoL never deselects your hero, which is nice.
- Easily visible AoE ranges on spells; you can be using a hero for the very first time, and you can still quickly get a good idea of the range and area of their spells.
- Better item management. You want to buy a Mjollnir in DotA? Then you have to buy a Mithril Hammer, Gloves of Haste, the Maelstrom recipe, the Mjollnir recipe, and finally take a trip to Leragas' shop to buy a Hyperstone. In LoL, you can just buy the final item for the total cost of all the components; and even if you're not well-acquainted with the items from LoL, every hero gets a set of recommended items that can get you started without having to pore over the entire item database first.
- Ability Power scaling. Spell damage gets outscaled towards the endgame pretty badly in DotA; this is not the case for LoL. Just like physical damage types can buy items to increase their damage and attack speed, caster types can buy items to increase their ability power and reduce their ability cooldowns.
- Better armor & magic armor system. It's intuitive and well thought-out.
- LoL games feel faster-paced than DotA games.
- Death is less harsh on those who die, but can be more rewarding for the player who kills you in LoL (with Blade of the Occult / Leviathan / Mejai's Soulstealer items).
- No creep denying. Early game isn't about denying your own creeps, but more about harassing the enemy champions in LoL.
- Better hotkey set: QWER for your three standard abilities and your ultimate on every hero.
- Shopping while dead: You can browse the shops and even buy and sell items while dead.
