I chose to write about this because for the last few days since I finished my cake I have been going anxiously crazy about this contest. All this is for a good reason in part due to the awsome competition I already have in that thread and another for another reason is that knowing that there is at least another incredible cake or two in the works as I write.
At first I never even in my right mind would have considered to enter the competition. For one being a young male and a college student, all I knew how to cook was quick food for supplementing my bodybuilding hobby on a george foreman grill, hitting a ready cooked uncle bens rice, and ohh a protein shake and a protein bar. I'm lying I can also make scrambled eggs for breakfast probably not much difference than another guy my age on team liquid.
Second, I had no idea!
And Third, there was no way that I could beat the awsome cakes already made up to that point.
So my idea hit me early on this week about Monday morning as I best remember looking through the fan artwork on the starcraft 2 website. That day I immediately went to a local grocery store here in Iowa, USA and hit the kitchen full of excitement and ready to learn to make some new things in the kitchen from you tube videos and recipes on the internet I had found earlier that day. I stuck to my idea and experimented with the recepies and learned how to make my basic tools through the night.
The next day I got up again full of excitement and new enthusiam to hit the kitchen, something I never felt for cooking before. That morning I had been waiting for my new phone to ship in from verizon so I could begin my cake and track my progress on its hyped 3.2mp camera because my old phone camera was not gonna win me a beta key. I officialy began the shaping of my cake around noon that day and worked till my eyes hurt. By the end of the day, my masterpiece delicious crepe cake was done and molded in a creepie purple marzipan. The next following day I woke early and worked on the little buddy baneling that would sit on top. I made my exploding jello in the morning in 5 different cups which would be my master idea and give the people a WOW factor and make the ling life like, at least surely as close as you can get to a baneling with kitchen ingredients right? I worked through the day and finished my cake about 8 pm that night and had it posted on the website shortly there after.
At first the reactions from the people were amazing and I was feeling on top of the world. Out in the bars that night showing all my drunk buddies and some drunk slutty ladies my hand in the kitchen. I didn't win any contest with them that night if you're wondering haha.
The next day though I woke up and realized how many days were left in this contest. Surely I was thinking I was a winner in my mind but there was still half a dozen cakes out there that could compete with me up to that point and only three winners to be given out. So in the last days since other cakes have come in all capable of a taking a key. I've realized that I could very well not get any reward for my cake and my dreams of testing SC2 could be in the hands of some world of warcraft newbie. Not only me but the same for my other entries in the contest.
In the end, it will be tragic once the winners are posted. I don't think I will feel incredibly good if I win a key when I know how hard everybody has worked. I did say in the thread after posting my cake that I would give my other key to another cake that didn't win if I win and I will stick to that. I do hope though, that the entire community here at TL can recognize all the great cakes in that thread and hopefully show Blizzard why team liquid is such a great support community for the sport and game of our starcraft and deserving of more keys.
I'll leave you with a link to the contest and some images of my process.
