I've talked about gamers who play games that but aren't competitive in games. For instance, one person once told me that I wasn't a gamer because I rarely play an xbox, and that I play some retro 11 year old game. I also know that there are very few people who engage in games competitively like this community at TL with starcraft. I often quote some things from TL about starcraft to my irl friends who introduced me to sc, to which they often reply "that's nerdy even by my standards" because of the depth and seriousness the games are taken to. And they are essentially no life losers (no offense friends of mine :D).
So as a high schooler, I thought, even in my school of over 1000, there is not a single competitive gamer other than I. There were these two kids who sat behind me and talk about counterstrike sometimes. I was instantly intrigued. Some people who play counterstrike? They aren't talking about halo or TF2 or FEAR or whatever? But this game almost as old as starcraft; something I know is played competitively? Do they know the difference between source and 1.6, and play only one version for whatever reason? But who am I to impose on these two people's discussion on something they probably just play for fun, I thought.
But today, in the computer lab, one of them was looking up a LAN party or something. A discussion came up, I told him that I did have a steam ID. No, I don't have counterstrike, because I'm gay (high school joke. This isn't to be taken literally.). I do play TF2, but its not really a competitive game. I do play starcraft competitively though.
this was perhaps the only person in the school who knew what starcraft was, but I don't know if he'd ever played it. He mentioned how gosugamers had a counterstrike team (though I'm not quite sure here, do they really?) and that's how he heard of it, probably. He asked me if I played DOTA, to which I burst out laughing, but the question was asked innocently.
But even after all this, I still didn't believe what I was being told, so I did a little investigating. turns out he's in a legit cs:s team; clan tag and everything.
Chance is only a measurement for possible outcomes. It is only an idea, and does not truly exist. Reality is what we make it.

I'll never understand why Starcraft players are often trying to convince others of their legitimacy while simultaneously looking down at people who play "lesser" games.

i don't really consider myself a gamer because starcraft is really the only game i play, and i play it on a competitive level(iccup). games like starcraft are completely different to normal games.

Like i have never played competitive FPS games, ( just few Lans and playing vs bots at CS / UT99 like 6 years ago ) Then i tried to play a Q3 mod like CS lately ( Urban terror ) and i always get decent stats whereas i have absolutly no skill and with the shittiest config ever ( even a q3 mod lags on my comp )...
A noob at bw can't get decent stats even on pubs.
I guess it is the same with lot of different games.

The last three sentences are a little far fetched considering how average your story is. Were you genuinely surprised? I'm reading this over and over and I really don't see how this is a story at all....

In his defense DOTA is pretty awful.
