+5 for L4D if you have friends to play online with. No, I don't think it will be free. They are coming out with come DLC soon though (another 5 levels, new game mode).
Portal is really fun, plus some people made a mod, Portal Prelude that is more fun and longer than the original (you basically get 2x the game).
