Proxy war. We're sinking $ into Georgia (or whatever former satellite state they fuck with next) within the next 4 years. It's a definite if McCain's in, and a maybe if obama is in.

$ we can't afford right now

Lol, I was completely dumbfounded for a minute. That's a gay coincidence.

and/or Russia
up to this point, you were doing well! then cute became bad!
In all seriousness, although I don’t think even mccain would do something like invading iran because of how explosively bad that would be, the jingoist rhetoric he uses on things is disturbing.
imo the west needs to do more in regard to Russia, mccain’s kind of toughness is the kind that is not productive here. russia does not so much need to be contained as to be taught that the old way of doing this doesn’t fly anymore. The new international order, so goes the saying, should at least be build around moral objectives, be they neoliberal or otherwise, at least moral high grounds that transcend petty national personalities is dominant in debates. (hollow debates, but at least this shows that the dominant powers who set the tone of the discussion are interested in moral leadership) Russia is playing an older game of Risk, to which there are few solutions with good outcomes. preferably then, Russia should be made to follow the new conversation.
is mccain in tune with the new diplomatic focus and strategies needed for constructive international relations? the need to stress common goals and moral objectives, and dilute us vs them antagonism is constant, of course, but right now maybe there is an opportunity to make good on this premise. a republican administration would not have the moral gravitas needed for this to work. Even if mccain does not speak a single hostile word, it is easier for russia’s more aggressive factions to portray the west’s policies in a hostile, rather than constructive light. Whatever the internal causes of Russian attitudes, it is at least clear that further brutishness will melt away any built up good will.
Is the conflict one of power, in which russia has understandable grievances, or is it a happy effort to promote international moral order. It is of course, a politicized effort, and there are always sins of the fathers in every little corner, but an outright rejection of the good intentions will be disastrous. To not lose sight of the ball, mere muscle bound toughness is not enough, we need at least a figurehead with legitimate moral gravitas, and some suave massaging of Russian egos. obama is unproven in the latter, but he has the former. A change of direction in america would be a good boon for changing the direction internationally.

If you're really voting Obama, then I haven't been doing a good enough job trolling.
Thanks for the incentive to work harder

Good thing too, you wouldn't want McCain/Palin in the White House. Let me illustrate why:
Step 1 with McCain/Palin: Diplomacy with the US and Russia is Vladamir Putin vs McCain. Ok.
Step 2: McCain drops dead because he's like 99.5 years old and had a heart attack.
Step 3: Palin vs Putin. Not good imo.
Step 4: Palin gets eaten alive. yay.

McCain vs. Putin is equally as frightening. We'd be looking at Cold War pt. 2

War with russia? Are we going to have tanks with cloaking technology that disguise themselves to look like trees? How about time travelling machines or troopers with jetpacks? Is Russia gonna send cybernetic squids to invade our waters too?
War with Russia within the next few years is as likely as any of the above happening.

clearly, if I had to pick between a 0% of world destruction with a 1% of world destruction, as is the case between Obama and McCain, and there were no other factors that made them different, what would you pick?

Until there is legitimate reason to believe any such reasoning or statistics are valid, this isn't worth discussing.

-There is no way that Russia makes war to a great power. First. We are not in Civilization II nor in the 16th century. Period. Educate yourseld before voting, tht would avoid us to ahve some idiots like Bush as president of the most powerful country in the world.
-The one who shows his muscle a lot is not always the finest diplomat. Mc Cain talk a lot, he supported this idiotic war in Irak: imo, he is not very clever, just brutal. In politic, being just brutal never works. Like in life.
-Look a bit what happens at home, guys. Republicans have fucked your country. Your social system doesn't exist, your cultural life is worst than anywhere else in the world, the repressive discourse didn't show any result cuz criminality is higher than ever despite your millions prisonners and your barbarian death penalty. Your international image is dreadful. Everybody around the world basically hate you and you don't even know it. The CIA torture people, you make illegal wars for private interest and destroy the equilibrium of the most instable region in the world. Your multinational are expoiting whole continents and ruining their population. You are not smart enough to understand that in one century this planet will not exist if we don't react but you are too egoistic to sign the Kyoto protocle and continue throwing your shits in the face of the whole world. Your american way of life failed and went into a vain brainless and ugly consumerist philosophy which leads nowhere, your education sucks, your obesity rate is the highest in the world etc etc etc etc etc
But you are right: continue to think you are the best, make war everywhere and vote Mc Cain. Yeaaaah!

i agree with everything except what you thing is the good things for solutions:
first you say "destroy the equilibrium of the most instable region in the world" which is a huge contradiction
we know everybody hates America but they love Americans. If anything a lot of our multinational are industrailizing nations, whereas European companies are too bogged down by a 6 hour work day and unions to do anything other than pay their workers and take subsidies from taxes
our american way of life was interrupted around 1914 when woodrow wilson decided it'd be in the best interest to make the world safe for democracy, sound famiiliar?
i'm pretty sure this planet will last longer than anybody else, and the Kyoto protocol is a useless piece of paper that denigrates the efforts made by actual individuals and for-profit organizations, not fat beauracratic governments that pay carbon credit funds to their lobbyist buddies and fat pork spending, in protecting the environment.
And the only reason you can complain about America over the internet is because of our "mindless" consumerism.
I'm still voting Obama, but clearly there are nuts on this side too, and not just McCain. I'm one of those crazies, but I didn't expect to see that many others here too.
And I really do statistically doubt that Russia will go to war. But governments usually have that propensity to go ten standard deviations from the mean and do that one stupid stupid thing.

Nobody likes american in fact. Go to South America, they hate you. Normal, you fucked the whole continent, but you probably don't even know about it. Go to Africa, they hate you. Go to arab world, they hate you. Europeans start to really, really hate you. Chinese hate you. Russians hate you. Everybody hate you.
Nobody likes your multinational ruining the jungle for oil, flooding the world with american products and exploiting third world people. Nobody.
In thirty year, they won't be snow in Arctic ocean in summer anymore nor snow on the kilimanjaro for the first time since hundred of thousand years. The peack of species extinction the biodiversity is facing because of human action is the biggest in the world history, bigger than when the dinosaurs disapeared. Our world is fucking dying and you talk about profit and "fat pork spending in protecting environment". I don't know if you are stupid or just completely ignorant. Or both. Don't you realize that, maybe, there is stuff more important that the profits of your oil companies? Like the whole nature, for example?
Middle east was already instable. Now it's a disaster. Irak is a the best think you could ever do for extremists.
American way of life leads nowhere. It just fails.
And by the way, if you were not completely ignorant you should know that Russia can't go to war, and that there is absolutely no reason why they would do it if they could.
