I plan on upgrading to a full 7800x3D next time I see a nice bundle on sale. You think even it will struggle at times!?

It's a really hard ask to do 3-player co-op - running with 3 players instead of 2 with this kind of engine roughly halves performance, if all else stays the same. This is mainly because of non-linear scaling (n^2 or higher) with some of the math needed, as well as getting fewer cache hits in slower layers of cache/memory because of the increase in data required to manage all of the extra units and stuff. Hot data gets pushed from L2 to L3, and in part from L3 to RAM as unit counts increase. The game is also trying to run at around triple SC2's tickrate and by default it is doing rollback (which forces frequent double-processing of specific ticks). Both cost a large chunk of performance. 1v1 of course performs way better, especially with rollback off i hear. It's just not really what i am most interested in

It seems like rollback should be normally disabled for co-op - it's not as crucial as competitive mode... unless I'm not understanding what it's supposed to actually do! Having the game feel more responsive isn't worth it if your FPS is cratering.

During the last beta, it would dip under 100 FPS when I had over 200 supply of units in versus and even down to 30 FPS in late game co-op but in early access (at least in campaigns), it seemed to manage 162 FPS (my cap) even at that mission with endless units. Haven't tried coop yet.

https://steamdb.info/app/2012510/charts/ Pretty surprised there's no significant pickup during the weekend, I guess it's partly due to players watching the show matches. But the drop off is quite a bit faster than I expected, around 88% from peak in just 1 week, and this is paid access which should be the core target audience. Would be interesting to see how big the official launch would be (guessing it will be on steam front page and would help a lot) and how fast and how big the drop off would follow. I wonder what's the minimum number of active players they looking for (yes concurrent players are not total active users)

They are a LONG LONG LONG way off from that.

I originally thought that "grass roots" style e-sports is best - allows it to grow organically and not as artificially. But I concede that having $100K 1st prize GSLs monthly was probably pretty good for SC2 in the very early days. I think what I do like is for the playerbase to have the freedom to host their own tournaments. SC2 had "licensing fees" over certain thresholds in the beginning and a game like OW2 was completely controlled by Blizzard. I understand wanting to control your own IP, but maybe let the scene foster its own growth and FGS can support as much as they can. edit: also the SC2 World Cup is a week and a half away - I imagine a lot of SC2 folk are focused on it. Curious to see if ESL starts to run any SG tournaments afterward?

I think it depends on the game, stormgate almost needs big audiences because it's built around it. if they didn't spend so much into the engine, the eSport features etc (I honestly can't tell where the bulk of money went), a good polished artstyle with good PvP, PvE mode is all you really need to keep it running long. Look at deep rock galactic, simple concept with fun artstyle and now has a survivor game build with the same artstyle. And who knows what else it will have, it has become an IP.

It's not exactly a good look if the line is already steadily going down.

I know for a fact that some people posting here and on the biggest social medias are financially tied to the success of the game (e.g. part of the company or equity owners) and aren't disclosing it, but with recent revelations it's likely that even Tim Morten is in here on one of his alts.

Not just directly financially tied but indirectly too. It gets really irritating watching certain content creators (I won't mention who) getting militant on twitter about the negativity surrounding the game. It's like bro, you want this game to succeed so you can make videos on it and make money off of it. Of COURSE you're trying to be positive about it. Don't get all sanctimonious about people who aren't feeling the game from their perspective of just wanting to play it.

But I don't think anyone here has invested in the game besides Spartak - who is a moderator for Frost Giant and has publicly disclosed that he's invested (somewhere, I think on reddit) and I'm sure would gladly confirm it here. Who do you think has some kind of financial tie to the game's success that posts in this thread? I was vocal several months ago that I would never invest in the company and strongly discouraged others from doing so unless they were fine with losing 100% of their principal (based on the fundamentals). I don't know many others are that overall positive on the game besides me. (I did back the $60 USD Kickstarter).

Nah I'm not trying to start that kind of drama. I'm just mentioning how there's more than one source of insincerity surrounding Stormgate's status on online discussions. People need to ask themselves, what exactly is the motivation people have for either defending the game or not. If it's because people are actually enjoying the game, then cool, but if it's just because people want the game to succeed for their own benefit then that kind of takes away the sincerity of their enthusiasm. Me. I'm just disappointed in the game because I wanted a new RTS to play, and there's just very little about Stormgate that I like.

I think a lot of people are in my boat where they want to play it but given that one of the matchups is utterly unplayable it completely kills any motivation and enjoyment. Hard to justify the time when it's obvious that things are going to be drastically changed.
