After having played the first two missions of the campaign I have to say honestly they should abandon the single player. It feels so dated and unfinished that even with more time spend to polish it up I don't think they can get it to where it needs to be for a 2024 era single player experience.

In the meantime, they released a blog with additional info on the campaign roadmap: https://playstormgate.com/news/stormgate-developer-update-the-road-ahead-for-campaign

Ofc Kakao and Tencent have a say in every matter. Another problem: "Kakao Corp., said Wednesday it swung to a net loss in the second quarter".

"Since in the statement it sounded like that the issue was on the buyer’s side, that the buyer wasn’t careful enough, we decided to investigate this a little bit. Until friday, in the official Kickstarter FAQ the statement was that “all of the year zero heroes were included in the Founder’s Pack”. And the Founder’s Pack was the cheaper version of the Ultimate Pack. At the same time the start page of the Kickstarter Campaign clearly indicates that “year zero" is synonymous with the early access phase. Consequently, all current heroes had to have been a part of this bundle. It is possible that Frost Giant simply made an error in the FAQ. In the descriptions of the individual bundles it is stated that only the Ultimate, not the Founder’s Pack seems to include all the known heroes. In any case, it was for sure not clear that already the EA release would contain a hero that would be paywalled for every backer. This information was intentionally excluded. If, at the end, all this was an honest mistake or not, the mistake is on the shoulders of Frost Giant, not with the buyers. Overall, we cannot speak of clear communication when it comes to Frost Giant. The whole behaviour in this debacle builds no confidence when we consider the monetisation model for the near future. This is not all - we notified the studio on the 2nd of August of this contradiction and asked politely for an explanation. Instead of answering back, on the same day the suspect paragraph in the FAQ was changed, as you can recognise on the time stamp here. We don’t want to blow all this stuff out of proportion, it’s not the end of the world. But yes in the end, the whole thing doesn’t leave you with a good feeling. "

The crazy thing is, this drama could have been avoided if they just released with 4 heroes and witheld Warz until September but I suppose some people prefer the game to have less content as long as they own it all. They did the best they can do in these circumstances and will give the next hero for free to the ultimate pack owners.

I figured that this would be at least 6 heroes and maybe 9 for a round 3 per faction to hit 1.0. For some context, Starcraft 2 has 18. They launched with 6 and then added 5 more in the following 13 months. Obviously nobody expected Stormgate to have 18 in 2025, but it gives context as to how the lower numbers are not unreachable - many pledged at $40-60 on the back of that, as sort of a box buy-in to play co-op. What FG apparently meant was that they'd get heroes until the START of early access which was 4 heroes. After the latest confusion they amended it to 5. Some of these people are now finding out that their $40-60+ pledge doesn't actually include those commanders introduced for the next year, and they have to buy the rest of them which they thought that they already owned at £10. per (2.5x the price of an SC2 commander). These prices were also not confirmed beforehand, and broadly people are shocked at how much the price went up. There has been no official comment on the mixup with the claim of having all commanders until 1.0, vs having all commanders until early access starts yet. The German reviewer asked them for comment, but they didn't give a comment and instead deleted the more consumer-friendly pledge from their Kickstarter page.

It seems they believed their own hype and just can do whatever. Not talking to Gamestar and ninjaediting, why on earth would you do such a thing. Fire the responsible person and hire Spartak, at least he cares and knows more about SG than most of the people at FGS.

It is really amazing how often and big some of the screwups were, and how bad the response has been to them. We're only a few weeks out from them breaking steam TOS by advertising a third party service (a shady VPN) in the game description, and that is still ongoing as well pending a proper response and blog post - https://old.reddit.com/r/Stormgate/comments/1el1lsa/hey_fg_wheres_the_explanationblog_post_about/

I didn’t throw down myself, but the impression I always got was that the higher tiers on Kickstarter had everything available on EA launch. I feel even if this was a misread, they should have just honoured that perception, given some higher tiers have given way beyond a full retail purchase. Like ‘oh actually we only meant for this to get you 3 heroes and everything else isn’t covered by that purchase’, or w/e even if it’s letter of the law accurate just isn’t going to fly. You’re alienating literally your biggest cheerleaders out the gate, it’s absolutely daft stuff.

You don't earn money if your backers have nothing left to buy.

Last time I did this was Dawn of War 3, I sent 4 ~ 5 friends a copy, at least we had tons of fun doing team game until the game went absolutely dead. This game? Bruh, I didn't even play with any friend so far, only 1 friend who just plays this a lot cause he just go celestial cheese and is in top 50, at one point was top 10. I myself played 6 games and just uninstalled this crap. LOL. I donno, this game feels frustration all over the places. The balance is so out of touch. Like does the Devs themselves play at all?

It is less that FG fucks up all the time and more that there is a group ready to pile on even at the smallest thing and never let it go. It's no small group, and paying customers have every right to demand better when they lose out due to a mistake or lack of communication that wasn't their fault. The only people defending it and trying to cover things up are those directly financially incentivized to do so, e.g. Spartak. FG and their investors have a ridiculous and unhealthy stranglehold on discussion relating to the game, but they can't delete discussion on Teamliquid. I'm pretty sure at the end of the day that trying to bury all legitimate issues will just make the game worse, have fewer players and less revenue. Critical feedback is an essential part of development and community forming.
